Just posted this in the 8p forum.. doh... so anyway, 2nd time lucky:

Hi all ... new here, so first of all hello!

I have been hunting through threads here looking to the answer to this question, but haven't found any definitive answers (apologies if they are there and I've just missed them)

I have owned my '03 plate s3 for 2 years and love it... however it is 100% standard, and I am getting a bit used to the power now and fancy a few extra horses...

Revo remap looks like the way forward for me... but am pretty strapped for cash at the mo, so am wanting to know if it is wise to go for a stage 1 revo map without uprating anything else (specificaly brakes, suspension)? Will the car take it as standard?

Cheers

Matt

the only thing needed is a Forge 007p diverter valve Matt

is that an essential though jason? i know its highly recomended but im sure there are a few people on here with remaps and standard diverter valves

I Don't Think the standard DV is up for the job when you Remap the car as obviously it ups the boost.Maybe it wont affect the car when remapped with the standard DV short term but apparantly it's an essential long term.

Hence why a certain company offers a Forge 007P,a Panel Filter and stage 1 remap for a decent price all in.

TBH Reading posts and gathering info on here there isn't meant to be a massive increase from stage 1 to 2 anyhow. Especially with the exhaust as most find they get little or no increase with an aftermarket (ie milltek)exhaust alone.

To take the power up further i think a FMIC is reccommended also.

See ESS three's sticky's on numerous engine, suspension, brakes mods testing for more info.

I've had previous cars remapped by a bloke in scarborough for £200 as i was on a budget (Chipboost.com) however this is carried out at his home address hence the lower price and i was more than happy with the results on my old Fabia Vrs, & Mams TTR225 and our kids Fabia vrs!!

I had my car mapped about 4 years ago and haven't replaced anything engine or suspension wise, and covered about 25K miles since without issue. Its fine as it is for the road IMO.

Theres Your answer Matt.

Thanks for the input guys...

I have been in 2 minds as to whether or not to do this for a while, but as it seems like the majority vote is to have it done I think it may be time!

I was worried that a remap might also incur the extra expense of uprating parts or replacing bits that have blown up because of the extra stress placed upon them... insurance isn't an issue, and I presume that audi won't treat it any differently...

Be a month or so away... but... yee ha 250+ bhp here I come!

Cheers,

Matt

i think its worth giving the car a good once over before the remap (which the person remapping shoudl do) as if there are any "weak links" they will most defiantely be exposed after the remap.

Just do it lol. Its a generic map too, not like a customer map where the others mods should be applied first.

Do it! A massive improvement. Its made the S3 excellent for me. I really couldn't stand the previous low power and torque, coming from a mapped M3!

JBS in Chesterfield are doing an offer at the moment. £350 including Custom Code Remap, Panel Filter and Forge 007P DV. Good value for money. And they're open Saturdays

I am also in a similar position, I have a few questions regarding the remap. I have found that usually you get the car remapped to the mods, however just wondering if it would make much performance differance if I were to:

1. Get the remapped, then add a cat back miltek exhaust and a FMIC and dv?

or

2. Would it be best to get the FMIC, miltek cat back exhasut and DV, then get it remapped?

I would have thought the latter or the two, just not sure weather the car would run lumpy with a FMIC, untill i got a remap.

thanks

Paddy

To be honest unless your going to uprate the turbo i wouldn't worry about the FMIC and the miltek is a waste of money by all accounts, i would just get the Dv and the remap, you'll be more than happy....if you have some extra cashola i would sort the suspension...

thanks leggy, thats gret help, sort of got my prioritys inorder now haha!

what would you recomend with supension? after coming from a saxo VTS which was about 10mm of the ground the s3 is pure luxary and feels as thought it handles really well standard, however the odd bit oversteers is slightly annoying, what do you think the best option is? coilovers? Uprated ARB's? I also think the s3 looks fantastic when it is lower! just imo!

thanks again leggy

IIRC a FMIC doesnt give any power increase at all, it just helps to sustain boost and obviously prevents power loss through heat soak.

depends what you want really, if you read Ess Threes sticky at the top of the page regarding suspension your find everything your looking for...

ARB's upgrade for combatting understeer

the only thing i would price in is a remap and the money for extra coil packs..... these aree the most likely thing to go and spoil your fun...the DV isnt a must, i have replaced mine as a precaution even though the original was fine and in order, i now have a spare OEM DV in case my other OEM DV decides to go belly up.... at a cost of £20...everything else is purely personal choice

as said above no point in changing exhaust or air filter for extra power, the only guaranteed return is the noise they will make

You only benefit from applying the bolt on mods before the map if the map is custom. If its a generic map such as revo or custom code then you can put the bolt on mods after without issue.

I hear the silicone replacement intake and turbo hoses are good buys for remaps as they can collapse/split under high boost.

Thanks for all the info everyone, defo some great food for thought! just got to get saving now haha:racer:!!!

And i can vouch for how good the suspension on ESS Threes car, really is superb as i follow it home from work the majority of the nights and it certainly out handles my standard S3. I've even felt a little bit of understeer from mine whilst ESS Threes old car kept on turning in on every corner & i couldn't keep up at all.

you can go out and buy a new TIP etc etc, but you dont know what problems are going to surface..... cant remember the last TIP that collapsed on here, several things have the potential to go, either replace everything which wont be cost effective or just get the map and replace when required...simples

replacement coilpacks i can now say are a must! they have gone twice on my s3 and now in my replacement car my mums polo!!!!:wtf:
