Wheel Security

Guest
They've just increased the maximum holding on premium bonds to 30k - the odds are much better than the lottery - I've got 20k in there, and average about 100 quid a month, and am holding out for the million...

Now I have a decent set of wheels coming that are actually worth protecting, what are the best locking nuts on the market and the cheapest places to get them?

I know that if theiving b'stards really want to, they will get them off anyway, but surely some nuts are better than others?

The best locking bolts on the market are the McGard's, there are two types: The High Security (~£30) and the Ultra High Security model (~£40). The Ultra's are one's that always win the AutoExpress grouptest. If there's enough interest I can start another groupbuy for these.

According to AutoExpress: A previous Best Buy, these were equally as impressive this time. We couldn't get them off the wheels, and defeating them by master-keying would take forever. It was impossible to attack down the sides of the shroud, and the exposed tops of the bolts were seriously tough - tools simply bounced off. Our Best Buy for a second year.

You don't need them for Guernsey do you Leddy? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I might be keen for some locking nuts for trips abroad.

What model of McGard would everyone like? The Ultra High Security McGard's and the standard High Security McGard's, both are packaged the same (eg: pink/silver box & 4 bolts + 1 Key) and both almost impossible to remeove without the key however the difference's end there:

+ The Ultra’s are of two-part construction compared to the High Security's one-part.
+ The Ultra's have a "Spin Shroud" (rotating metal ring) around the head of the bolt - It's this feature that makes them impossible to remove without the correct key.
+ They have an extra narrow groove key pattern. The key aligns with the lock by turning until the patterns engage.

The Ultra High Security McGard's will £35.99 (list is £40) and the Standard High Security McGard's will £27.99 (list is £30). These prices included P&P and VAT.

One size will fit the following (without spacers):

AUDI - (from 97-05) A3, A4, A6, A8, S2, S3, S4, S6, S8, & TT
SEAT - Leaon & Toledo (all models with 5 hole wheels)
SKODA - Octavia & Superb
VW - Bora, Corrado VR6, Golf III GTi & VR6, Golf IV, New Beetle, Passat, (all models with 5 hole wheels)

PM or email me for details or fitment questions. See McGard's Website for more details.

Impossible? nothing is impossible. They can be removed with time and the right tools. Nuts are merely a deterant, nothing more.

That's why I said "almost"! Yes, they can be removed but in the process you'll make a lot of noise, take a lot time and cause major damage to rims, this will discourage most opportunist wheel thieves who'll move on to car that hasn't got them. (McGard's will only supply a duplicate key to the registered owner of the locking bolts). BTW, the standard Audi wheelbolts can be removed in 5 seconds as they only have so few key combinations. I run the same groupbuy for BMW's on another site and their (BMW's) only have 12 different combinations of key! That's a [censored]-take for wheel & tyres that could be worh worth £3000+

Leedy & Matt, you'll have to pay the VAT as I'm not a business, i'm just sorting a groupbuy for you guys like I run on my other forums however, postage won't be an issue to the CI. The bolts should be with me early next month as the McGard factory in Germany is on its summer shut-down at the moment. I'll sort out payment nearer the time.

Nice work Andy,
I have been part of group buys on the Boxster forum and we used Paypal to make sure people got the money up front and were serious etc.
Let me know what the plans are...!

Cheers

Thanks for you efforts Andy

Let me know how much and when and it will wing it's way to you. PayPal would also be fine by me or if you PM me your sort code and account number then I'll send it directly into your account.
