Please tick a box which best describes your car.

Lastly, just drop a note in here to say you voted so we can see it is infact S3 owners that are voting.

Much obliged :)

Love driving it, love looking at it when its all clean and shiny.
Cheap it aint, but worth every penny IMO.

It does loads of things really well, but it needs to because Im a complete tight ****, and wouldnt spew 25K on a hatchback if if didnt.

cheers

I voted all rounder.

After stepping away from the S3 , i'm finding that going from A-B / day to day driving it's not that special , there are other car just as good , if not better to do your commute/sat in traffic in.

What i'm trying to say is.......If you don't take it on B-roads/back roads now and then and give it a good going over , it won't feel specal.......it'll be a very expensive mode of transport.

I ticked fun. I find it fun every time i climb into the cab and head off. I love the sound and feel of the turbo, I love the way it handles, I love the way it looks and attracts looks.

I also feel as though im getting into something a little bit special as i sink into the recaros, and get ahold of that flat bottom wheel.

wish i'd bought a cayman instead, as I have been infromed my car is effectively a pile of ***** :whistle2:

I love driving it but also think it is a great all rounder. Opening the door to Red & Black leather, the Flat Bottom steering wheel, metal gearknob etc etc and the torque produced from the turbo is massively addictive. Its a clinical motor and does its job often too good, but i like that fact.

I don't find it expensive when compared to my previous 3 cars, R32, Merc C220, Golf GTi.

I'm tempted to get it out of the garage and go for a drive now.....:racer:

Just voted and yes I love every minute of driving it and looking at it when it's sat on the drive after a wash!

Easy one - I love it!
Having worked my way up the VAG ladder (Polo, Golf GTi, S3 8L) the 8P S3 is all I wanted and more. I bought it because I wanted something that had quality, grunt and a bit of fun, but could also throw a mountain bike in the back to head to the hills, or my Snowboarding gear and blast to the alps.
It ticks all those boxes and a few choice mod's have made at a B road beast and fun on track!
It's not sportscar (like a Cayman or Boxster), but it's not trying to be - surely that debate revolves around a TT?
For my needs it's great all I need right now - I couldn't want more (ohhhh ok, I do want the 20lb/ft of torque i'm missing out to L60N ;) )

Love mine, enjoy the drive and love the looks. Love it that much I am just off to see a RS4 Avant this afternoon, but can't really make my mind up whether I want to part with the S3. Mmmm !! Such a dilema????

Bummer what an awful Dilemna.
Forgive us for not being sympathetic....:)

Its a car with a bit of clinical arrogance about it. I think thats quite likeable, its a very competent well engineered car in every area.

Reminders me of the German footy team of 1996 - well put together and no weak areas. If it was a footballer it would be Adreas Muller when he did that sort of chicken strut in front of the England fans after he scored a penalty the sausage eating monacle wearing w#nker. He was good and he knew it.

oops.......I'm rambling again...

I voted good all rounder.

Goes fast... very fast when needed. Amazing performance, handling and quality of it.
Boot big enough for shopping etc etc.
Plenty of room inside to sit four people... comfortably unlike the 8L S3.
Very attractive... Grrrrr... Gets looks everywhere i go... Even if it is coming up to two years old.

Actually saying all this... I should have voted Loving Every Minute!! :keule:

Love it... and is it really that expensive to run?

It uses about the same fuel as my last car (Pug 206 GTi 180). OK servicing costs more, but then it goes further between services. Road tax is also the same band as my last car.

Its looking fairly conclusive, and cast doubts over Bowfers claims of "99% of the population find the S3 boring".

I voted good all rounder, do like and agree with the ruthlessly efficient. But not ultimately a fun car in my eyes
One if its stengths is also its weakness in my eyes, ie its a little too discrete at times, - people dont just move out of the way as fast as they used to in my old Subaru !

Richard

Opps might have given Bowler a bit of fuel for his fire with my above comments - but then again 99% of the population have not driven a S3 !

Richard

I voted 'None of the above - I'll make a comment in the thread'

I love every minute of driving it, looking at it out of my window, seeing it when I cycle back from work, that fact that everyone in my regiment knows that I own 'The S3', whenever cars come up in a conversation people always mention my car, everytime I take someone new somewhere they always compliment the interior and other petrol heads in the regiment ask me for advice even if they don't really know me.

I'm in the middle of packing to go to see my mum for the weekend and I'm looking forward to the drive almost as much as I am about spending some time with my family after a crap 4 weeks at work.

What do you expect the poll to say when it's all S3 owners replying.

They are hardly going to say its not that great after having spent 30k on a souped up posh hot hatch.

Haha!
What a pointless poll.
Like going onto a Man Utd website and asking "Who likes Man Utd"
Well done.

Evidently, you have a massive problem with me saying I'd prefer a Cayman to an S3.
Big deal, get over it.

I think you've missed the point. You imply that we, as owners, must know our cars are compromised, etc, etc... hwta I thin k L690N was showing is that actually, here is a forum of car enthusiasts, all running that car, who enjoy them!
The fact you feel the need to come in and bash S3's at every opportunity is frankly tiresome.
You had a bad expereince with an A3, but there are many people on here who are having a good one, and it is that feedback the OP wanted to hear from in terms of long term ownership.
Have/did you own the S3? No i don't believe you did.
So why not let the people that do reply to the chap so he can get a balanced view from S3 owners, because I'm sure he's doing the same sort of research on the porsche.
I think I speak for most people here, but if my circumstances we're different I'd have a Cayman - in fact L60N said the same thing - he'd love one, but just not right for his needs! Its the same reason I have an S3 too as the reality is a cayman simply isn't practical for me and I imagine lots of others on here too!
I don't think anyone here has said the Cayman is a bad car - but you stating the S3 is a bad car is off trhe mark.

CJP80 is best placed - he moved from S3 to Boxster, and I know he loves it and if the OP can live with 2 seats that's what i'd recommend too, but if he needs 4 seats a bigger boot etc in the 5 years he intends to keept he car for, then it may not be the wisest move!!!

How about you get over your A3/S3 phobia???

As some of you may know; I sustained some very light front damage recently; and am currently driving a near identical courtesy S3. It doesn't have any options though, and it isn't remapped.

THe difference is like night and day. I hate the courtesy one! It's soo slow compared to mine; and not having an armrest is like torture.

Basically, I love every minute of driving mine because of the remap; and i didn't realise it before I tried going back to stock...

Haha!
What a pointless poll.

Well done.

So what? Leon asked a question, that's all. Why all the fuss? It's a fairly innocuous question isn't it?

Oh sorry is it just for S3 owners the rest not need reply.:keule:

If you feel left out, then add one of your own. I'm sure people will be only too happy to oblige you with their opinions

Not a fair comparison.

Bowfer, you are sooo ripened yet childish, its beyond words. Its a shock to me that someone of your age can be soo imbalanced in the common sense area.

I'd hoped that at the very least; you were a man of your word when you said "So long, im never coming back" but your not even man enough to stick to what few principles you may have.

In either case, as usual youve managed take what was a general enquiry from the original poster "hey which would you choose" completely off track. :applaus:

As for my poll..

Im sure most S3 owners are just the same as all car owners, if ****** with thier purchase, would be vocal about such - Bowfer is living proof of that, as are many others around here.

The poll is completely un biased; has all the options from "****" to "****-hot".

The reason its "S3 only" is because, only an owner can give a balanced view right??

But in a nutshell - Not one vote for "dull" or "Boring" Bowfer. I guess you can take that on the chin and concede??? ...Thought not...

Im sure the more level headed people round here can look and read, and take on the information contained within, good luck to em.

GCconn, i made this thread for you mate as you are looking at the choices. I hope this helps

Peace and love, over and out. :arco:

mine wasnt even near 30k

what you often find is that disgruntled buyers usually make the most noise about something they own

especially if their car has stupid high running costs (like the over used 8L example on the other thread)

the motoring press hate the S3 but cant seem to give a valid reason why. most owners I know love them.

Eureka!!!

but you stating the S3 is a bad car is off trhe mark.

I would suggest you and L60N read the thread again.
I did not say the S3 is a "bad" car at all.
I said I think it's dull looking (as in styling) and does nothing for me.
I even mentioned that I'm sure it's a "capable" motor.
You and L60N have extrapolated it into me saying it's a 'dull' and 'bad' car.

Bottom line, I don't view the S3 as an aspirational car at all.
I view the car I have as just as good as an S3.
Note, I'm not saying it's as fast, so no pointless videos.:keule:
You boys can have your straight-line drag race ******* points.

I do view the Cayman as an aspirational car though.
