Hi guys.

I am thinking of going from my a4 1.8t avant to a a6 avant. Can anyone explain what the differnce is between the quatro and other models. i have seen on autotrader that a 1.8t quatro is group 14 insurance while a 2.5 diesel is group 13a.

Does the quatro perform better although it is a smaller engine? Also would the 2.5 diesel be more economical.

cheers

A quattro has 4 wheel drive, all others have 2 wheel drive.
There are some other slight differences in trim etc, but the main difference is the transmission.

Thanks m8.

is there a better model between the quatro and the diesel?

quattro tend to be higher spec as well due to they cost more to buy originally.

but they will cost more as they not so economical compared to the FWD. but then you get a car with laods fo grip and better handling so worth it IMO.

I think there is a V6 TDI quattro as well.

I had an A6 Avant Quattro Sport 2.5TDI and would recommend them thoroughly.

thank you guys.

What is the fuel consumtion like on your 2.5tdi m8?

i was getting between 30 and 33 on a run, and mid twenties around town.

hi i have owned 2 quattros a 2.8 a6 avant and a 2.5 tdi a4 avant by far the best cars i have owned they are so possitive on the road they are slighty thirstier but believe me its well worth it .the 2.5 tdi quattro is group 15. mpg around town 25 out of town 44 and average 34. the 1.8t is group 14. mpg town 24 out of town 41 and average 33 if you want the best of both worlds look for the quite rare 1.9 tdi quattro sport great mpg and superb handling

FYI: I have a 54 plate A6 3.0TDI Quattro Auto and am getting similar figures to these, 42mpg on the motorway and 34 mpg overall. The engine has been re-mapped to 280bhp/420lbft but as yet I've seen no increase in mpg (probably due to my heavier right foot!).

usually, always on, 4wd - stiffer suspension - 3 spoke steering wheel and a few quattro badges!

I've just recently bought a 99 2.5tdi Quattro saloon and am getting 38-39 mpg on a run, and 35ish around town. I love the 4wd though, just makes the car feel stable and no wheelspin! The V6 TDI is lovely too
