Help, before I smash my car in anger

I've been having problems with my A3 for a while now http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=64334

I decided to just cut my losses and trade it in as I don't have the spare cash to throw at it at the mo as we are going to be moving away soon, but it seems its only worth around £1500 and with that sort of money I'm going to end up with a complete dog of a car. So it looks like I will have to keep it and try to fix it, but I don't want to be spending money on it on parts unless it defo needs them. Steelers want something like £90 just to plug it in and tell me its broken and I can't justify that if I'm about to have to spend £300+ on a turbo. Hopefuly it won't come to that, but I won't be suprised if it does. I have read other people having the same symptoms and it only being a sensor etc, but I obviously need to get it hooked up to vagcom to find out.

Does anyone in the Plymouth area have vag com or know any where that is very cheap that will check the codes for me? There is beer and a few quid in it for someone who can use thier vag com on it for me and tell me for sure what the hell is wrong with my peice of **** car.

JLA if you havent already put it on vagcom i wouldnt be too disheartened, you've barely covered the surface in trying to rectify the issue from what it sounds like..... chin up fella...theres a million and one things it could be im sure

Already looked on there and the nearest one is Bournemouth, thats quite a way from here! I also searched the site and didn't find anyone in this area.

1animal1, thanks for your support, I had it checked a while ago and it was clear then that its more than likely the turbo. Fingers crossed it isn't tho!

m8. im in torquay and i used these to read my fault codes. only charged me £30.

id sugest looking on yell.com for a local audi / V.W specialist. stay away from the stealers. just ring a few up and ask them what they charge for reading fault codes. :)
 
generally speaking Rich, the tdi engines seem to suffer really badly from limp mode and over boosting when they get older, from what I've seen so far, a new turbo usually cures it.

Ours did it for a while, and a new MAF SEEMED to cure it, but it came back fairly soon, and now does it fairly randomly....

I've been told it's due to the actuators sticking causing over boost, and then putting it into limp mode totally....

I assume a quick on/off on of the key sorts it?
 
A VAG-COM cable from eBay cost me £13 and came with trial version of VAG-COM (download full version from a torrent) works a treat. My turbo stopped working one time, VAG-COM showed a fault with the N75 waste gate valve - found a wire to be snapped off (from doing a hasty repair earlier)
 
When he says full version this doenst mean the latest version it just means version 409-1 cracked

Lets all do this so ross tech don't get any money and can't put it into developing more excellent software... Pretty sure it's a no no to talk about pirate software :rulez:.

yeah i totaly agree. just as well i dont d/l music for free, movies and xbox360 games for free and im not gonna buy a cable from ebay and download VAG-COM 409.1 + Crack

im sooo not gonna do that. its wrong...........:yum:
