Selling my car

Looks like a tidy car mate but I think December + current econonmy means you may end up having to drop the price more than you would like to even get a bit of interest.

Good luck with the sale though.

A very nice car there mate, good luck with the sale,

I'm sure your phone will be buzzing Matt...buzz buzz

Just paid £8k for a mint 2003 S3 in Dolphin grey, full leather, BOSE, Mirrors etc etc..

looks good mate and good luck i just let my mint 2001 s3 82k go for £4750 but that was for a quick sale but as said before as recession looms people arent spending money on thirsty cars.but good luck

Nice car, you will always get people banging on about cheaper ones they got elsewhere mate, id say its worth the money, now prob is not the best time to sell, I did the same with mine as a feeler and not much interest, and even had a dealer offer me £1500 more than trade cos of all the stuff on it, but it wasnt what i wanted so i decided to keep it, and am even more happy now the tax isnt going up yet!

Thats a silly cheap price for a low mileage facelift car man!!!! surely you could have gotten £6k for a quick sale? Si-Trials got £5k for his pre facelift on about 130k!

I'm sure your phone will be buzzing Matt...buzz buzz

hahahaha, Classic :salute:

Lovely looking car, seems in mint condition.

However, I can't help thinking the marmite interior is going to reduce potential market loads. I personally LOVE it, but I know many will hate it....

Good luck with the sale!

Good luck with the sale Matt, however im sure you dont enjoy being 'humoured', that is far too expensive IMO, if your not in a rush great, if you want to sell it - you need to take other cars that have recently sold into account...firstly the yellow interior is a marmite thing even more than it would be normally as it isnt a yellow car - secondly, it isnt a unique colour, probably one of the most common colour S3's you can buy...

re the comment above £1500 extra over trade for the extras? thats sales my friend....your car is not worth £1500 over trade for anything, he was feeding you a line and dipping into his profit if he told you this and proved that the trade price was accurate (glasses or CAP guide), either that or he undercut the trade price to start with which is normally the case, its called managing expectations, easier to add value than take it away

Sorry to be harsh but that is the way it is im afraid.... i wish you no hardship in selling your car....

Tim

I would argue silver is the most common colour, and black one of the best, but subjective there.

TBH i would be happy selling for 7k, or i might just keep it and use my savings on a bike instead of the Z at the mo.

Agree on the interior, i didnt like it but it grows.

i probably could have got more money but i needed a quick sale and it went to my best mate, well hes taking it tonight i sad to see it go.:bye:

Matt i don't disagree, black and silver arent far apart as the most common S3 colours im afraid.... best or not its not the hardest to source.... you might be lucky and find someone who wants a black with yellow interior, i for one have never seen one about which makes it unique

personally it wouldnt be to my taste but someone it will

I still have connections in the trade, so know the price...glasses...he quoted was correct, the offer of £1500 above was on a direct purchase and not a p/ex

Was making the point that if you like a car enough its worth hanging onto it, rather than let it go and not be happy with the price

Thats what I did, when I was getting offers of 5k I decided it wasn't worth selling.

Although im wondering if I made the right choice as its broken once again :crying:

No probs mate, wasn't tying to be objectional, so are you saying he offered you £1500 above the actual price in the book?

The price seems crazy high for yours Matt T.
But that's what Pistonheads is for, test the waters!

are they sold though? thats the thing, unless they are being sold then a price is merely a price...not a 'worth'

Its a very realistic price, interior is a bit wild for me!but everyone has their own opinion but a very good price!

I really don't get the general idea that if you are in no rush you should hang out for the price you want.

If you have NO bites / calls / interest, the price is too high. Supply and demand dictates that. No one is buying S3's and loads of folk are getting shot.

Until it is 40 years old the value will only ever drop, NEVER go up. Even if the ecconomy and petrol prices recover, the value of your motor won't. I'd take the hit now and try not get too emotional. It'll only get harder to find a buyer and harder to accept the value your car commands.

Faz its a realistic price for a seller, not a buyer...unfortunately the latter is what dictates a sale so i would be willing to bet money that this car does not sell for that figure (or within hundreds)

What would you say is a realistic price, and what are you basing it on...?

hmmm well no harm in trying his luck,if it dont sell or gain interest then he can start lowering, but thats his starting point i guess??

Just leave it as it is Matt, only drop if there really is lack of interest, at the end of the day, if someone offers you a cheaper price and you take it, then that person probably thought he was getting a bargain! I've never personally advertised anything for the price I would sell it for, hike it up and let them haggle! lol

My 2002 51 reg dolphin grey, chrome mirrors, 18"s, half silver alcantara S3, with 95k, I thought was worth about 6k? (Thinking of selling in the new year)

I would have thought yours would have been worth about the same, on paper. Older, but less miles.

(I'd still prefer mine though!)

Some good points in this post - IMHO a car is only worth what someone's prepared to pay for it. The yellow interior is really rare - someone will be wanting that interior for sure, could hold out for a buyer, could be months, could days who knows..
Also consider Glasses and Cap are seeing S3's drop in book value circa £250 PCM, in reality the trade see's a higher drop than that, more like £500 PCM so factor that in. I would hold fire on your price for a short while if your in no rush.

Remember to change the pictures in your Pistonheads add when you change the price - people get bored and disregard ones they noticed a few weeks back (just been there myself)

Also Christmas is here and a good few are also in 'survival mode' like it or not.

Why not Ebay it? -we just sold A4 PD130 Sport for MORE than the Piston Heads price! - people seem to think Ebay is always a bargain for some reason.. We put a high BIN price with 'Best Offer' option - sold in a matter of hours via the Best Offer feature, guy percieved a bargain cause it was £1k less than the BIN price!:beerchug:

Good luck!

I would have said maybe a tad more for your Brad...... for a selling price

Matt, i hope you dont take what im saying the wrong way, just trying to put a hint of realism into the thread..... im going to put mine up this week for £15,000...not interested in getting rid but if someone comes along and offers me £6500 i'll snap there hand off!!!..... all depends ow much you wana sell it

mentioned this before but theres a guy with a kingfisher blue S3 with similar miles as yours, was up for sale in jan when i bought mine for 2-3k more than any other S3....hes still got it for sale to this day, STILL priced 2-3k above everyone elses....that guy will never sell it because his head is most likely in the clouds (chances are he'll have bought it for a premium- sold the concept) sadly this is real life, not SIM city

I suppose the question actually is What is any car worth at the present time, Im looking to sell My S3, the problem is if we all start advertising at 2p the value of an S3 will only be 2p. I we advertise at what we feel it is worth and sellit for what the buyer will pay?

Ive put my 03 S3 in silver 58k with Black interior FASH up for £9.5K looking to get the best I can.To be honest if It goes Below 8 I have to ask my self is it worth it?

However I would say that any one reseacrching an S3 and come across this thread will now be making silly offers.......
Markets are controlled by Consumer Confidence. Im a consumer too!:undwech:

hi guys,

I have a 2002 52 S3 in silver, only covered 49,800 miles with full audi hisotry. has the 18inch rs4tt wheels, bose sound system with 6 in dash changer/cassette player, chrome mirrors, front arm rest, factory tracker, etc...
And i am willing to take £7800 for the car... just goes to show how much the market has messed up used car prices..

sorry shah but you have only had the car a month and prices have not changed that much in a month.I feel for people who have bought it ten months ago

yeah but, i still paid good money for it. So i stand to lose money on it..

cheers jas haha!!!

i agree the market is consumer led.....yes this post could have an effect on a potential buyer, but this post is only indicative of the current market place (upto you as a seller what you accept).... we arent undervaluing any car, we are merely making suggestions based upon the facts that we have (seeing what other cars are selling for)....none of us want our cars devalued, however this is where the market is at the minute....and ill tell you now, if you want rid you might aswell wack an advert together now cos the price will never increase.

Shah, your aiming for the top end price..... Dave you should get over 8k... i wouldnt bet on it being much over though

yeah but, i still paid good money for it. So i stand to lose money on it..

Thats cars im afraid..... high powered fuel guzzling car caught up in an environmental government push with an economy in recession..... you couldnt have hoped for a worse situation - you have lost a lot of money, nothing can change that - thats life!!

if your not in a rush id put it up for the £7800..... but be prepared to take £7k ish...best bet is keeping an eye on what equivalent cars are selling for (not advertised for, actually selling at!!)

Problem you have is that nobody is spending at the minute, hence why car sales are on their ****

Your last name isn't Parker by any chance is it ??

Probably not Parker - but maybe Glasses or CAP, he's spelling out reality, like it or not.. I've lost £14k on my BM in 18 months!..

Your last name isn't Parker by any chance is it ??

If someone mess's up and you loose money you can sue them right?

On this basis can I sue Gordon Brown, Labour and the Major Banks for cocking up to such an extent and devaluaing my assets through no action of my own? Especially as the Unelected leader of a democracy?

Just a thought..... :superman:
that is al
