Hi people, new here so please be nice. I had a test drive today, going to buy soon but here is what was discussed at braehead audi in glasgow.
I have an 04 skoda tdi1.9 estate, 50k on clock,8months MOT, one slight bump at the back, was offered £2,700 if I signed deal today and today only.
Here is the spec of audi A3.
A3 DIESEL SPORTSBACK (2008) 2.0 TDI 170 SPORT 5 DR
PEARL - LAVA GREY
DYNAMIC CLOTH UPHOLSTERY - BLK/SILVER
DELIVERY
CRUISE CONTROL
BOSE SOUND SYSTEM WITH 8 SPEAKERS
SYMPHONY RADIO + 6 CD AUTOCHANGER WITH MP3 COMPATIBILITY + AUX IN ??????
HEATED FRONT SEATS
INTERIOUR LIGHT PACK
ENHANCED PACK A3/A4/A4AVT/TT ?????????????

Braehead audi say total cost £24,014.99. minus £2700 trade in, total price for cash £21,314.99. I would have thought I would have got a little bit more for cash. Any thoughts help and hints more than gratefully accepted. Thank You.
Was also thinking of tracker device, they say £500 with a £325 lifetime fee, how does that sound, again thanks

Mate,at the moment car dealers arn't selling cars,my mate just got about 4k knocked off a beemer, you want to push for a bit more, and get them to pay for your tracker!!!,if you've got that kind of cash to pay for a car your in a very strong position

wouldn't bother about the tacker. Why would you want your Stolen car back?

Get gap insurance with the money intead

I agree, someone ragged the living daylights out of your car and your wanting it back?
you are in the driving seat as they are in the poo so try chancing your arm for more of a discount make up an excuse about not having all the wedge

Gap (Return To Invoice) insurance is a great idea, you aren't tied to buying from the dealer either so have a look online.

I would expect some reasonable discount on a new car and as for the only for today comment well that's the oldest in the book. A deal is a deal, you show me a dealer willing to turn you away and I'll show you a fool.

Agree on the tracker, for £300 you can buy a tracker jammer from China so anyone stealing to order won't be tracked and anyone else stealing your car will be an amateur, so you really don't want it back.

Just a wee update, Audi dealer in Aberdeeen will do for 19,600, saying £4000 for trade in and minus enhanced pack, sorely tempted to order tomorrow and get in Jan. Is this a better deal and should I go for it, Opinions gratefully received

What's in the enhanced pack and how much is it?

Is there a rush to order?? When spending this amount of ££ it pays to do some homework.

Have you tried some of the internet sites such as drivethedeal or autoebid to get a quote and ask your dealer to try his best against it

I believe it is just the 3 service deal, will have a look at those sites. Reason to buy, I had some money stuck in icesave bank of iceland, thought I had lost my money, Now told I will have it back by end of month, so just dont trust banks now and just want to get money spent on a decent purchase.

What percentage of the total list price of the car are you paying? You should be looking to get between 11 and 13% off an A3 at the moment.

Go to www.audi.co.uk and click on A3 and then click on configure your A3, choose your model and all the options you have selected and it will give you a total on the road price.

Oh that I have done. £24,014.99, Glsagow Audi say £21,314.99 thats including trade in and nothing for cash.
Aberdeen Audi(2.5 hrs drive) very similar list price, minus a £250 extra, and will sell for a total of £19,600, so a difference of about £1000 and they will fill car for return trip. I just want to order tom for a jan delivery, want rid of skoda estate and money that I thought I had actually lost. So I dont feel as if I am paying to much as it is with money I thought had gone.

so they are giving you £2700 for your PX, and no discount by the looks of it.

IMHO you'd be silly not to buy the A3 service plan.

Regardless of whether you thought you'd lost your money or not you didn't so you should be seeking best value for it.

My wife tried 6 Audi places in scotland today, only 2 got back to her, one was saying £24,340.00 after px £20,340 for an 09 plate
Aberdeen saying £23,765.00 and after px £19,600.00. (08 plate)
I would be taking the service pack, So do you think that is a bad quote
Glasgow audi was £24,014.99 and after px £21,314.99 so I thought the worst one

In my opinion go to the dealer who is offering you the lowest price and haggle hard with them, make up quotes if you have to (as long as they sound reasonable). Remember this when you go in, new car sales have fallen dramatically over the last month alone and most dealerships will pretty much do anything to get a sale. Also try to play them off against competitors, tell them BMW are offering you a better deal on a 1 series and you are very tempted.

Dont mention the p/x until after you got your discount I am with the others times are bad at the moment some dealers will just want to sell a new car on there books I wouldnt settle for anything less than 10% off. Not many will be interested in taking a p/x unless they pick it up cheap perhaps you could sell private too many secondhand cars sitting around at the moment its a buyers market for a change.

Mate,

Don't ever deal with Braehead...they are a bunch of tossers and never offer discounts.

I stay in Glasgow and bought my first A3 from Leicester as they could do it £2.5k cheaper than anyone in Scotland.

Just got a new S3 from Audi Perth (Camerons) with about an 8.5% discount. Spoke to Braehead......"sorry sir we don't discount S Models".

Always shop around when you are buying brand new and ask dealers down south to include delivery on a transporter to your house.

Good luck in getting a good deal.

make sure that you have a reasonable price in mind for what your p/x is actually worth. most stealers will blur the water by offering you a crap price for the p/x and use the cash to give you a 'discount'. ooh thanks - thats my money.

ask for cheaper options for free - some things cost AUDI fokc all to add in they are just extra profit

keep haggling with the best dealer.

give him a target price you want to pay, oooh and ahhh about the spec but tell them you dont want to change it. when you have got what you think is his best offer GO BACK AND ASK FOR SOME MORE and give him a counter offer saying you will do a deal on x day if he agrees. You want a full tank of fuel anyway (half included as standard).

service pack is worth £250 if you do enough miles - you will get the option to purchase this after you have ordered anyway so leave it out of any negotiations.

GAP is best purchased from somewhere else - the audi policies are over the top anyway (unllimited value GAP). You probably only need about £10k and three years anyway which should cost about £150-£200 max.

For what it's worth, I'm currently looking at buying a new S3 Sportback and the best offer I've got so far from a main dealer is 10% off the optioned-up price, so a saving of around 3,200 pounds. So deals are out there.

That's without a trade-in though. The trade-in offer on my 2005 Alfa 156 GTA was 4,000 pounds. I'd be nuts to accept that, so I'm not going to. Even conservatively, I could get 50% more than that in a private sale.

Plus, try speccing up your car on www.broadspeed.com. It gives a price of around 21,000 pounds (ignoring the enhanced pack as I have no idea what that is). So with some decent money for your old car, you should be looking at a cost to change at least nearer 18,000 pounds.

I am getting offered it now for £19,450, that is £4k for px, skoda say that is a good price, But now I am actually worried about buying it, been reading comments on customer care or lack of, So thinking if paying cash then they will have no time for me. Any thoughts or am I worrying for nothing. Paid £250 deposit so thinking may be better to cut my losses now rather than them messing me about.
