The halfords pro stuff is one of the best budget tools you can get imo, nearly all my tools are halfords pro and i havent broken a thing yet, and if i do i can just pop into a store and exchange it anyway. Other than screwdrivers/torx drivers and any specialist tools i would think it has everything you will need in it.

Yep halfords tools are very good value for money. If you can find a mate with a trade card you can get some serious discounts!

Edit: I would advise getting a breaker/knuckle bar also. It'll save wear and tear on your ratchet and gives a lot of leverage on wheel nuts.

There's a 16" one here:

But make sure you get one with the same sized drive. The one above is 1/2" but I think the set you're looking at is most likely 3/8". Or you can use a step down.

You should see the snap-on stuff i've managed to break in the past! Overated, sells on brand name alone. Especially to 17 year old garage apprentices who buy a screwdriver on monthly payment for 2 years!

Halfords Pro is decent and you dont get ripped off.

The Snap-on moto right now is 'There is a difference'. Yeah, the price.

Hi all. Thinking of trying out being a handy man and going down the DIY route with my A3.

For example I want to try changing the brakes or taking out the rear lights to fit bulbs etc.

Would this tool kit be all I need to accomplish this?

Thank you in advance

Thats weird fella cause I thought it wasnt driveable as you didnt want the parts to fix & was gonna SORN it until could fix damage.

As for Halfords kit, I use this & has been very reliable, Snap-On as already stated are a rip of & sell on a name but way overpriced for what you can get in halfords or other sellers that are just as good, I mean my kit was £100 & you'd get 1-2 spanners for that from snapon

I'd also suggest getting a ratchet spanner set as you only get 3
in the kit and I frequent need one in between!

Another vote for the Halfords stuff here, i've been using it for years and have only ever had one problem. I cracked a 17mm socket but removing an extremely tight wheel bolt. I just popped down to my local Halfords and they gave me a brand new one, no questions asked.

Cheers guys, think i'll go for it once i'm ready. At least I know what to get now right!

Oh it's small things like changing bulbs on mine and mainly working on my sisters MK5 Polo.
I don't have a clue about cars and might as well learn abit about em' since it's gonna be SORN.

At the moment, the rear brake lights are bothering me. One is brighter than the other =/ So gonna order new ones off eBay and have a stab at getting it fitted.

I have got the 150pc Halfords kit and had it for around 5 yrs now, never let me down and i have used it for 2 engine rebuilds and all suspension work etc on my Polo and A3.

All you'll need extra is a breakers bar and a torque wrench.

oh and a deep 16mm and 18mm socket also come in handy as the 150pc kit doesn't have one.

oh oh and some adapters from 1/4 drive to 3/4 drive etc. get the 2 piece pack halfords sell.

What would I need the breakers bar & torque wrench for?

But since you've worked on a A3 & Polo, I guess i'll get what you got Robin heh. Just wanna become abit of a handy man at cars as well as computers. Seems to be more in-demand than PC's at the moment heh.

I had to add some adapters for 3/4 1/2 etc & 21/22mm spanners but rest have done most jobs, I have a seperate spline & torx set anyway

I can vouch for Teng Tools - I got one of their socket sets when I was 18 (a whole 13 years ago) and used it on every car I've ever owned since. The torque wrench isn't bad either.
