anybody train and take suppliments,

if so what suppliments do you take

Im 32 & i've been using weights for about 16yrs on & off now, sometimes more seriously that others! Im by no means a giant & a bit fatter than I normally am this year as had a few months of not bothering what I ate or what exercise i was doing. Im 6ft, 83kg & 23% body fat. Im getting married in Feb so plan to be back under 15% body fat for the honeymoon so slowly building back up to intensive work outs, if you suddenly go mad for it your likely to get injured! I've used for a few years now a USN whey protein which im very pleased with, get it from an ebay seller called fitstopsteve who sells a 5lb tub for £32.95 with free P&P. Its ultra low carb which normally means it'll taste rubbish but this one actully tastes good! I've started back on hydroxycut which is a fat burning supplement, theory is it promotes the use of fat to power your muscles so you have to eat a low calorie diet for it to start eating at your body fat for energy sources, it also stalls your appetite so your not prone to snacking. In a couple of weeks i'll go back onto creatine which helps boost your energy levels so you can train harder & for longer periods.

I've never touched steroids or any other naughty substance in my life & never would. See lots of young kids on them at my gym and on one hand feel sorry for them but on the other they're making themselves impotent so it'll clean up the gene pool a bit!!

What's your situation & what are your goals? There's no one right way of doing things but there's thousands of supplements that'll help you do different things.

Yea everytime i go for a pee!!! LOL...sorry it was a stupid comment i know..

Anyway, no i dont, but have always thought about getting into it, but was never too sure on the supplements and sort of programme to follow etc...maybe you could shed some light on the subject??

Cheers
Nilz

well currently run 3 x 45 mins a week, 2 x mauy thai a week, circuits and spinning plus weights

have been told I am doing to much cardio for muscle growth,

so thought about using whey protein see if that would help me

I do a 10k row on an erg, 30mins on the x-trainer, with ~1hour of weights 3-4 times a week, plus 2x 5 or 10k runs and ~40miles on a bike at weekends, when I'm not playing golf...

I don't take supplements, or meal substitutes. Just a lot of fresh veg with plenty of chicken, steak mince and the odd bacon sandwich.

I'm tee-total and try to avoid white bread and potatoes. Main staples are rice, cous-cous and pasta.

My only major vice is I'm partial to the old 'midget gems' and 'sports mixture' of my youth. Got to be Lions though...

Cheers,

I flit between CNP Pro-Peptide and Maximuscle Extreme.

Pure whey, straight from a friend at the dairy.
Bang it in the blender with some milk, a banana and some agave syrup (natural sweetener).

Tastes great.

i do quite alot of weighr training - always been pretty small @6-8% body fat, 70kg now up from about 55kg a few years ago before i trained! I bench 90kg for 8 reps and butterly 113kg - not that those numbers mean anything, if your technique is bad.

I dont really beleive in suplements, however started using protein as an extra meal to save on shopping costs and time. Take it with skimmed milk, porridge and fruit, then with water after training. Helps me keep weight on as i end up eating 6 or 7 times a day to not lose weight.

Use myprotein.com. Good stuff, properly prices - its only protein and id recommed d them, i now buy it in 10kg loads and give it to some gym pals - saves money!.

oh as for too much cardio well i guess it isnt great if you want big muscle gain, unless you can take in enough calories. However cardio fitness is prboably more improtant than muscle growth - and your heart is an important muscle.

If it was pureley for looks and you had no weight to shed, then you could drop cardio altogether and jsut weight train - but thats not great advice!

Nor did I, but now I do, my 8 rep rate is with 130KG (160 for two reps) ;)

I would advise a mix of split training (keeping main body parts to seperate days) and CV.
Try and alternate upper body/lower body/CV days.

e.g, my regime at the moment (and for a while now)

Mon- 10min run, Chest/Triceps
Tues- 10/20min run, Legs
Wed - 10min run, Back/Biceps
Thurs- CV/Abs/Core
Fri - 10min run, Shoulders

Sat- Rest day, few Beers (you still need a life!)
Sun- Rest day, (bit of a cheat with the eating, chocolate etc...you wont stick it long term if your regime makes you miserable)

Technique must be good, if its not then drop the weight to until it is. Forget about `gym pride` and ignore what others are lifting, stick to your limits and make susatainable injury free progress.

Eating wise:

Its actually fairly simple but requires discipline and some fore thought into you next meal as `fast food` rarely means `good food`
And if you are training a lot you will have a big appetite.

You will need:

Lots of fruit
Lots of veg
Lots of lean white/red meat/fish
Avoid too much starchy stuff such as white rice/pasta/bread, spuds etc, and stick to brown/wholemeal rice/pasta/bread or cous-cous for a change.
Lots of water

For lean mass growth you will need around 30g Protein every 2-3Hrs, so I would highly recommend Protein powders to supplement the protein intake from wholefoods.

IMO the training is the easy bit, keeping the diet right and the steady protein intake is the hard bit!

Im not an expert but Ive talked to some very knowledgeable people and done it long enough to know what works.

Good luck and stay off the jabs, you dont need them.
Hope this is useful.

Cheers

Im down the gym regularly now for the past 4 months and take 2 protien shakes a day (3 on workout days), eat about 4/5 times a day and take Seven Seas vitamins (Cod liver oil, all in one and Zinc tablets for the immune system) My diet is based on science, you need to eat more calories than your burning to get bigger, seems to have worked so far :D

I go to the gym 4 times a week,

Mon: Chest, Tris and Abs
Tues: Legs
Wed:Day Off (maybe Abs at home)
Thurs:Shoulders and Calfs
Fri:Back and Bis

My younger brother is the 2008 North west and East Golden Gloves Boxing champion so all my cardio I do with im-running, skipping curcits etc!

All my life I've been small and skinny then when I hit 18 a shot up! I was 6'2 and really skinny (just over 9 stone) so after seeing myslef on pictures when I got back from holiday I decided to join the gym, take it seriously, eat properly and use Maximuscles Promax (Which I'd reckomend to anyone)
Now I'm just over 11 and half stone, I'd say Im the healthiest and Biggest I've ever been and love it!

All I need now is a new gym partner seen as I've been though 2 and they all come up with excuses as to why they cant make it haha

Hope this helps

I used to train 3-4 times a week and had a lot of good results with dymatize elite, low carb and the choc mint is lush!! Gutted now tho as i've got summat wrong with my heart (not gym related) and i can't work out, or do ****** all really. I'm only 28 :wtf:

Body Fortress Whey Powder is currently half price at Holland and Barrett. Grab it while you can.
