Just got back from our week away in Scotland. What a fantastic place to go!!!

The roads are simply awesome and the views are even better.

The weather was ok, nice on a few days but when it rained it rained properly!

The food was great, seafood was expensive but worth it!

People are so friendly and helpful, really enjoyed the experience, probably won't be going again for a few years now as its such a long drive!

Some interesting facts:

7 days, 3 days in Stirling and 4 days in inverness.

2057 miles in total.

291 litres of V Power / BP Ultimate

Average MPG on the DIS - 31.6MPG

Average MPG calculated using pen and paper - 31.9MPG

£334 spent on fuel alone.

50hrs of total driving hours according to the DIS.

The car is plastered in mud and crap, never been so dirty before, also the car did the 2000+ miles with no problems whatsoever! Found the cruise control a god send!

Some interesting piccies now. Warning there are quite a lot of them.

Most northern point!

sweet pics, you follow any of Glens suggested routes?? I think to people who are used to driving in England, the Scottish roads must seem deserted. I still get a thrill driving thru Glen Coe.

we did follow some of them, we didn't really get enough time to get over to the west for that long, we would have liked to have done but time wasn't on our side.

We did enjoy the roads to applecross!

Scottish roads are VERY VERY deserted, we were thinking it must be the time of year as there was NO ONE around, i mean i was in the middle of the main roads taking pics and there would be no cars for like 10-15mins!!!!

Also on some of the higher mountain roads there were the poles sticking out of the ground on both sides with red and white reflectors on, what are they for? snow?

Makes me want to move to Scotland just for the roads. Stunning pics- me & missus are defo considering going there very soon.

nice photos mate. There are some lovely roads around loch lomond too.

Yes poles are for snow so you know where the edge of the road is, along with the gates they use to close the roads off to stop foolhardy people LOL.

I'ver been to Sheffield a few times as I have cousins in Donnie and its quite a bit flatter down there!

We did the Loch Lomand roads, ****** scary at night as its hard to see where the corners are as its just utter pitch black! But in the daytime they are brilliant!

The use similar poles in Austria and Switzerland to mark the edge of the road for the snow-ploughs.

I spend a week in Scotland in April, just north of Inverness and once you travel further north the roads become very quiet. Very enjoyable.

nice arty piccies there - not much of Stirling though? (i live there :) )
The crainlarich road up to glencoe is amazing, take it you did that ?

We didn't take any pics in Stirling apart from the castle!

yeah we went from stirling to fort williams, thats a good road! in fact all scottish roads are good, no traffic, sweeping bends and good tarmac!!!!

hey robin, fantastic pix, glad u enjoyed ur wee visit, wish id known how close u were to our home, those roads are the biz m8, ive driven them many times, always brings a smile to my face:yahoo:

Nice shots. Would love to do a similar trip, maybe in the spring.

I remember the Applecross Pass from doing it as a passenger when I was about 10. My first trip to Scotland, when it was sunny, rainy, hailing and snowing all in the space of an hour, in August

i was in a right mood as the GF wanted to take piccies of myself and her and it was FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!

glad you had a good time up here with us!! hope you came home with a clean licence...

thanks

more than likely we came back with a clean licence as i didn't really drive that fast to be honest, mostly stayed at 50-60mph as i was always worried about the police knocking around, plus some of the roads were fun enough below the limit!

Glad you enjoyed your trip.
You got some of the 'badge of honour' pics there - the bridge at Corgarff, the Cockbridge to Tomintoul road and the bendy tree!
Sweet...

You'll be able to add your car pic to the list next time it comes up in conversation on here:)

The road from outside Ballater as it heads over 'that' bridge and onwards to the Lecht is amazing...I've been known to drive it over and over again, just because it's there.

Good stuff!

:hubbahubba:Looking forward to going up in december even more now! Hope we have a couple of reasonable days weather wise to go for a drive:racer:.
Amazing pics Robin...thanx.

Nah the real snow doesnt come till well after Christmas.

The Applecross road over the mountain is the highest road in the UK. The word mountain gives it away. I was lucky enough to do it recently on a beautifull day.

Where did you go round Inverness Robin?

erm.........................BP garage opposite B&Q 4 times, the local butchers for me haggis, tescos and some chinese buffet place next to the river.

thats it really!

I borrowed my GF's dads Canon 400D, want one myself now but i wanna milltek instead!

Wooooow looks like a great trip !!!

I was thinking to go end of october and meybe see some snow, not sure if its too early tho

Silly question, but any nice places there on a straight to give it some real speed ?

PS First port ... of to saing hello section now :)

There are a few long straights but its not worth going stupid speeds down them as there could be police about or animals etc.

Also my way of thinking is that the roads in Scotland are so damn good that you don't need to speed to have fun!
