I have just got the 'service due' message on my car but i had it serviced only 3000 miles ago, just want to know if its possible to get rid of it.
I did the same thing with my Golf mk4 of the same age with a combination of turning the key & pressing a couple of buttons at the same time....but can't remember exactly how, so if anyone knows it would be a great help as its bugging the beejeezuz out of me because i know its only because the guy that serviced it did'nt have the tech to reset it.
Cheers in advance Andy

of course it is....I'd tell you but am ****** VR..hic!

Pull the button by your speedo. Then pull hold it for 2or3sec mate done it on mine other day.

Think you will need a service reset tool or Vagcom to do this, im sure you cannot do the combination thingy on the S3.

Might be worth taking it back to the garage where you had it serviced, they might be able to do this for you.

Yeah i've just been out to try pulling that button by the speedo to no avail, i'm just being tight & trying to save myself a few tokens but i might have to take it back there :3sadwalk:

Cheers

Nah have'nt checked the handbook but would'nt really expect it to be there to be honest because i guess they would like me to take it to a nice shiny Audi dealer to get serviced & reset my computer....could be wrong tho' !

Im pretty sure it will need to be done on a comp...

See if your garage can do it for you, dont think they will charge if they serviced it, just tell them that needs to be done as part of the service and see if they do it for you, doubt very much they will charge for it, otherwise have a look at the sticky about VAGCOM locations, if someone is close to where you are they may do it for you, for a drink or something..

Hope you get it sorted.

Did mine last week, its all explained in the owners manual.
Its a combination of ignition, push the button etc.

if deffo in the users manual, I did mine 3 weeks ago. Didn`t work straight away as I wasn`t pressing the pins fast enough.

oh and it sits at 9300 for a while after resetting may even start at 2-4k can`t remember as I change my oil yearly which is about 4000 miles for me :)

Procedure:

Switch off ignition.

press and hold the right hand of the 2 buttons (speedo side) and switch ignition on, the display should now show "Service Oil"

pull out the left hand one (rev counter one) and keep it pulled out until "service oil" is cleared, the display should read "service ---"

press the right hand one again to call up the service indicator display "service INSP" and clear it in the way by pulling out the left hand button

How do I know?....I've just gone and reset mine - I had the exact same scenario - a service around 3k ago, and the service light popped on last week - very annoying. My mechanic did say, that such resets can (though not always) be initial signs of the battery on it's way - so worth keeping an eye out.

An alternative is to use Vag-Com (which I also have) - but I just used the reset pins on the dash - less than 2 min job.

Rob :)

I stand corrected, i thought it was only done on Vagcom, you learn something new everyday.
