should belong to the same flat as its x number space belongs to x flat

[/ QUOTE ]
Couldn't you have just gone round to "x"'s flat and had a bit of a chat about it?

You wouldn't want to start a car denting war /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/openfire.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Surely if you know who did it and where they live, this should be treated just like any other impact accident causing damage, i.e. go round and ask for the other party's insurance details, get quote for repair etc.

They may think you're being petty but at least you would have the force of law on your side and also let them know they should take more care in the future!

I am going to confirm with the car park company as to which flat exactly that space belongs too and i will be knocking on someones door. Thanks for all the feedback chaps

I have got to say that I don't agree with anyone retalliating like this. The person in the car might not even know they have done it.

Just like war , first option should always be discussion..if this fails then strike back.

Lets face it, there are some people in this world who are so ignorant they probably didn't even think that opening the door could damage someone else's car. eg Fat sweaty beer gut type trying to get out of car, swings door open to max otherwise he can't get out. they are just uneducated that's all !

Still doesn't condone retalliation though.

Sorry I don't agree with what you have done but hey, it's your decision /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nono.gif

Sorry ijam dont understand the end of your post.....if they love their car that much why are they slamming doors against other cars

[/ QUOTE ]

I think ijam was saying that in general - he would take just as much care regardless of what car he was next to - as that car might be that other person's pride and joy i.e. not what he would do if someone had done what had happened to you... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

You never catch people in the act though - that's what annoys me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Trouble with uneducated people is you wont be able to have a discussion with them and they certainly rarely reason with you or care - and so Sunil's reaction is the only thing they understand.

I would have personally spoken to the guy or done the same thing to the same car - depending on what came first.

I agree that discussion and reasoning may fall on deaf ears, but surely there should be a choice offered.

If discussion and reasoning is ignored, then other avenues are still open... In this case, the other guy wasn't given a choice; he was deemed guilty merely by parking in the same bay. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

My personal opinion is two wrongs don't make a right! I think I would have chosen to try and discuss first, and if I got no joy, then take a different course of action.

Just my opinion though - everyone has a right to their own opinions.

Hope the damage isn't too expensive Sunil - to either car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just wanted to know if an 99.5 A4 ECU will work in a 00 A4 both cars are quattro.
A buddy is sell his 99.5 and aasked me if i wanted the chip but i didn't know if that
would work in my 00 A4. Also he has a Greddy exshaut on it that he is willing to give me
if i can remove his, and put mine in its place do you think that it is worth the headach of
trying to remove it, yes both our cars are 1.8T also just trying to get info on this before i start saying Yes and get my self in a hole. The exshauts is about 5 months old and the chip
has been in the car for about 1 year n 1/2. thanks for the help in advance. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

ECU could be done but probably more hassle than worth as said above would require recoding, key programming even if they are compatible.

The exhaust may well be worth doing, any exhaust shop should do the swap for a small fee.

No key programming needed, basically just need to take the code from the old ECU and put it into the new one...quite simple really.

I would only attempt the ECU swap talked about if the ECU's have the same part number, or the older one's part number changes up to the new one, becasue sometimes you can't be sure what was changed and how it'll affect the running.

well thanks for the input but his was just stolen so I lose on getting anything but thanks guys.

these cars may be running on immoblizer 3 so they will have to be done coded and matched not just a straight swop over!!!!!!!can only be done with a licensed technician!!!!.cant be done with VAG COM!

Think again Link to Ross-tech site section on swapping ECU's with immobiliser 3

[/ QUOTE ]

Read again! this text taken from the instructions from your supplied link! Therefore it is NOT just a case of using Vag-com for all the work.

[ QUOTE ]
Take that 14-digit Immobilizer ID number (along with your VIN number) to your dealer and request your seven-digit SKC, along with the workshop code and importer number

[/ QUOTE ]

we cannot see the relaese to seven digit number to anyone we do not see it anymore its all done throught the 5051 so you see that link MUST be out of date. it is not possible for the audi adt's to do it on the road anymore either, but by all means please try and then you will see. hehehe

ive just emailed them to say you cant do that in the uk anymore we shall se if they reply, hey call your dealer they will only verify what i have just said!!!!!!!!

But the process can still be completed using VAG-COM, so it's not that VAG-COM cannot be used for the process is it!

I dont advise using vag com att all when changing ECU's or you will have to have the car recovered to the dealer because it is NOT possible to use VAG COM to completely change an ECU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a false statement! I've changed two ECU's on Tdi's without a problem, so ECU's can be changed using VAG-COM, with the limitation being the imob 3 variant.

I agree with the comments about imob 3, but even then it can still be carried out using VAG-Com, it's just you need to get the code from the dealer.

Hooray!

So Foolish3uk, can we get the code from the dealer?

That's a good point because I've just reread your post about the 5051 and can't make head nor tail of exactly what you mean.

If a roadside technician could do it previously, which your reply suggests, then that would imply that the change was with the diagnostic tooling, therefore it's still possible........ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't get me wrong on this guys, not having tried with an imob 3 ECU, but a bit of clarity instead of it doesn't work would be good.

Yes you are right it could be done before but there has been no change in the diagnostic tooling, audi used to have a department for issuing the 7 digit codes that you are referring to, but about 6 months ago they shut down that department completely, now the ONLY way to get the seven digit code is over a secure connection with the special tool VAS 5051, Not even technicians see the code anymore it gets fed straight into the cars ECU. sorry about previous confusion!
