Was just looking on the various worldwide Audi websites to compare prices around the world and I came across the Norwegain site. I knew Norway was expensive because of their high taxes, I think a pint of beer is like £5 over there. But the price of an S3 is 719,300 krone, which is £70,533.94 :wtf:People talk about rip off Britain but it makes the price of an S3 over here look relatively cheap! Any Norwegian members on here who can confirm this?

i thought most expensive cars were in Turkey... well we are at least second now lol.. here the list price of an S3 is €56.000 and if you include the options, pirce comes to around €65.000 :banghead: :sos:

singapore might end up a close second with it's S$177,000 price tag.

roughly exchanges to 70.4 k using today's forex rate.

The thing with S'pore is that most of the price is for the certificate of entitlement (COE) i.e. a license to own a car. They last 10 years so I think if you want to change your car within the 10 years you only pay the price of the car.

It was a good system for controlling the number of cars in the most crowded country in the world. Unfortunately the S'pore goverment has started issuing more in recent years and it's having a big impact on road traffic and congestion. Crazy as they have a fantastic public transport system.

I'd be happy paying that if I were drawing a singaporean salary (highest in the region) and enjoying the public transport system. Oh....and their girls...their girls...what I wouldnt pay to be squeezed among them.

That's why they bring their flash cars over to malaysia to speed on our motorways and generally drive like a ****.

The taxes/duty for cars entering malaysia is just another money sucker to
1) make the taxman happy
2) keep crappy companies like proton & produa alive and competitive by artificially increasing the cost of everything else.
3) benefit the selected few who are able to secure an "approve permit" that's required for any vehicle import.

sorry to go off topic though.

I can believe it i went skiing over there and it was really expensive, i think i pint of strongbow came to about £6.50. I didnt get chance to look in a dealership tho. Im surprised the people over dont buy there cars else where and import them over them selves across the ferry?

Norwegian salaries are very high though.
And Norwegian offshore workers are the highest paid offshore workers in the world. Many working a 2 on/4 off rotation!!
The standard of living is very high and crime is relatively low by comparison.
They have twice the landmass as the UK and only 4.5million residents (compare that to 60+ million UK residents). So lots of wealth and few people to share it between.
Many own hunting lodges and mountain cabin retreats, as well as their own recreational sailing/fishing boats.

Agree 70K is a rip-off but our Noggy neighbours dont have it all bad...

cheers
Paul

I live in Norway and I can confirm that price for the S3 is for real. The only other country that have higher tax on cars is Denmark. But DK have a tax system that rewards small efficient cars and punish big gass guzling cars instead...more fair to be honest?!

Still it's an insane price for a small hatch...:keule:

Yep, that S3 price is correct - Mind you, that is the stripped down version with no options/equipment, as soon as you tick off what options you want you can add another £10k at least.

My 2008 A3 2.0 140 TDI S-tronic S-line with a lot of extras was over £41k - Compare that to what you guys are paying :)

Up here we are also required by law to have winter tyres fitted in the winter - a decent set (17" RS4) for my new A3 was over £2k, original Audi parts and Continental winter tyres.

For us Norwegians, we can save a LOT of money by ordering car parts from Germany, England or other EU country's.

I've just had my 30km (almost 20k miles) service done - £540! They are crazy over here.....

The reason for the high prices in Norway is the taxes. Everything we buy here, we have to pay tax.
The car itself from the factory does not cost more than yours, it just the Norwegian taxes witch makes the cars so expensive.
And, there is really not much to save by importing a new car privately as you still have to pay the same taxes as the stealers to get it street legal....
By importing a used car into Norway you can get away cheaper, especially the more expensive ones.

yeah but when you compare that to the price of the RS4 then urmmm not bad huh, lol, think on another thread someone said it was like 200-250k

But I know denmark tax is very high, someone told me it was like 60-70% is this true & I kinda believe the guy as he was a lawyer from the city working in denmark alot & was gonna be my father in law, lol,

Phew and there was us complaining about our UK prices..oh well its not all bad then hey ;)

yeah but they do have higher wages which I guess they would need for £7 a pint, lol

You thought the S3 was expensive, well guess how much for an RS6? Wait for it, £207,380.21!!! In this country you can get yourself a very tasty supercar for that kind of money!!!

No wonder there's a lot of Polish construction workers here in Norway then, 40,000 Euro should be easily achieved within one years work :)
Well, maybe not as living costs here in Norway is also very expensive...

I don't think that someone from poland who is going to work in Norway or UK, aftert going back to Poland would buy S3....

One question, do any of these come with snow chains? lol

it looks like we are throughing prices from different countries....
in Greece starting price for S3 is €43K, the S3SB €44K, and the R8 is €141K and if you want an Rtronic is €151K...

These factors control how much tax there are on cars in Norway:
1. The weight of the car
2. Engine power (kW)
3. CO2 emission
All of these factors are quite predictable on small cars with small engines, but gets insane if the car weights more than 1400 kg, has above 90kW of power and does emit above 140 CO2
