Looking to take the Mrs to a west end show, any idea's/recommendations of a decent show?

Anything bar the opera will be good!

Saw We Will Rock You at the Dominion on Tottenham Court Road and was impressed as I don't usually do theatres and shows.

The Lion King....it is absoloutely brilliant, me and the missus LOVED IT!!

Its not childish at all and was highly enjoyable, theres also a few hidden surprises in the show as well that make it all that better.

I'm going to see Chicagos at the Cambridge Theatre this week which apparently is well rated - will let you know if it's any good!

I have seen Chicago, i thought it was really good, very lively and raunchy as well in certain parts...

We Will Rock You is an awesome show, saw it 2yrs ago on my b'day and loved every minute of it! They have a large "rock band" of an orchestra playing all the Queen songs good & loud! The story has nothing to do with Queen but they use the songs well in the storyline, plenty of comedy tongue in cheek moments!

Took mum to see Mamma Mia in Feb which was ok die to the Abba classics but wasnt quite my cup of tea! Took the missus to see Dirty Dancing in July which again was actualyl pretty good even from a blokes perspective but given the main characters dont do any of the singing its a little strange compared to other shows. The main characters are dancers (and ****** good ones too, with the Penny character really really really fit!!!) and they have a bloke & woman to do the main songs and they had seriously good voices! The stage is very narrow though for this show so you need to be close to the stage to see properly, which means booking months in advance & costing the most!

Another vote for "We Will Rock You". Went a couple of years ago dreading a night at the theatre and came away after thoroughly enjoyable evening. :arco:

Personally I was a little dissapointed with The Lion King...
We Will Rock You was brilliant!! Great music and funny story, which was written by Ben Elton.

Seen Mama Mia and Dirty Dancing, enjoyed Mama Mia not Dirty Dancing, booked in to see We will rock you.

Forgot to update my post - Chicago was absolutely brilliant! I never considered myself a fan of musicals, but the cast delivered some fantastic performances and the live orchestra was just fantastic. Highly recommended!

Avenue Q, adult muppet show....lol.... :icon_thumright:

We love the theatre. I can definitely recommend Avenue-Q, The Producers, Les Miserables (my favourite - seen it about four times), Chicago, Mama Mia, Phantom of the Opera and Spamalot. My folks saw The Lady in White and The 29 Steps and loved both those.

Shows I would like to see but haven't yet: 'Monkey, Journey to the West' and the new Cameron Mackintosh version of Oliver with the big bird from Blackpool! :)

Cheers
Dan
