Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a Parrot CK3100 bluetooth kit. Seems pretty good, has caller ID, auto mutes the stereo and uses the car speakers for audio. They're by no means new to the market - I'm just wondering if anyone has installed such a device and if they think they're any good? Also what happens with the mic? Does one need to be positioned somewhere?

I currently have the standard concert stereo with my Dension icelink. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to install this aswell, but just wanting to check? Any pics of where you have installed would be brill!

Cheers
Rob

here's a pic of the unit I'm talking about:

hiya Rob, i had this model for almost 4 years in my last A3, fitted the colour version to this car. Brilliant kit IMO, never had any trouble at all and the cust service is amazing........ all you need to do is chase the microphone wire up the door pillar and mount the micro at the top....... you will need to remove your glove box, the panel beneath your steering wheel and the stereo.......

its just a case of following the instructions from there..... mount the module behind the glove box, and run all your cables to that......and connect the ISO leads inbetween your existing leads at the back of the stereo......you will need to play about with the wires to find the 'mute' wire....this will turn your stereo to 'phone' mode when anyone calls.......

Hope this helps......

I have the CK3200 in my S3 over 12 months now and it works fine. I didn't install it and it mutes the stereo and the mic is hidden in the A piller. Sometimes has a problem connecting the phone but all in all it was worth the £100 I paid for it. I like the big screen and internal phone book - saves getting my phone out of my pocket.

annoying thing is, some phones (only a small few) dont transport the phonebooks, ie the N95 doesnt....and there isnt an update from parrrot yet to sort.........

problems come installing when you have the Symphony system as you need to trace an ignition feed....shouldnt think you'd have to do that though......also the mute requires a plug making up

Thanks guys,

The colour screen version looks like it has a couple of extra features such as the internal phone book, though I'll probably end up going for the CK3100, as it's a bit smaller. I'd like it to be really discreet, and out of the way.

Do you have any pics showing where you have mounted them? Do I need to buy a mounting bracket or will one come in the kit?

Cheers :icon_thumright:

they come with several different fitments.....i fitted both of mine, old shape 8L A3 and facelift S3 to the right of the steering wheel and to the left of the middle vent (just below)..... both do have internal phone books, only main difference is that one is colour and has larger screen

Awful picture, taken just now, far too much flash, and greasy finger prints on the screen, but shows the location well.

I didnt want ANY visable wires, so I modified the back of the parrot unit so the cables came straight out of the back, it then fits PERFECTLY between the head unit and heater vents on a pre facelift car (mine has no heated seats)

The mic is wired into the A-pillar behind the trim of course, and there are NO visable wires anywhere.

It works amazingly, and the sound quality is really good. I cant imagine how I ever managed with just a headset for 2 years!

If yours is pre facelift, I can't think of a better place to mount it.

thats mounted the same as my previous kit prawn....removed the button behind it and stuck the unit to the dash with the enclosed pads....never came off in the time i had it:beerchug:

Bit of an old thread, but I decided I didn’t really NEED a Bluetooth kit and had other things to spend my pennies on, however I got one for a birthday prezzie on Tuesday :yahoo:. So I would like to fit it sometime this week (maybe today if I can, but I want to keep an ear out for some more birthday deliveries!! :rockwoot:)

So I have a few queries…

...all you need to do is chase the microphone wire up the door pillar and mount the micro at the top....... you will need to remove your glove box, the panel beneath your steering wheel and the stereo.......

Did you mount your mic IN the pillar animal, or just peeking out the top? If so how's the clarity?

you will need to play about with the wires to find the 'mute' wire....this will turn your stereo to 'phone' mode when anyone calls.......

The kit has arrived with a 3 potential mute wires. There is one cable that states it should go into mute 3. Does this mean I will still need to find the mute cable on the back of my stereo and create a plug, then connect that to one of the other two mute connections? If so, by any chance can you remember what numbered plug to bung it into…or is it just a case of a wee bit of trial and error - 50/50?

the mic is hidden in the A piller.

Aky – you had the mic actually hidden in the pillar too? I wanted to know about this as I would like mine also hidden out of site, though obviously I don’t want to compromise the clarity of the mic. I don’t mind it just poppin out the top of the A pillar, but if I could get it bunged in there that would be super :)

I will be mounting mine in the same spot, when you mounted the old one animal, was there a gap behind the unit or did it cover it perfectly? I would like to mount mine the same. The only thing I dislike about mounting with the sticky pads is the potential of marking the dash if/when I come to remove it. I don’t really want to mod the back of the unit either really, so I’ll settle with a little bit of wires showing.

Thanks again for the help!

Mine was just popping out of the top of the pillar. pretty descreet. Don't have any pics to show you mate

Rec, the mic was traced all the way to the top of the pillar and clipped on top.....simply push the wire behind...easy enough and no clarity problems with either kit....

The Mute wires.....depends which HU you have....on my double DIN unit i had to run a seperate mute cable to the single pin....with my older car it was just a matter of trying all three wires to find which muted it from what i remember.....i did this with the newer kit also once i had connected up the wire to the single pin.

Fitment.... The button was removed completely on the older car with no wires showing at all, you couldnt see the hole either so looked spot on.... that was with the smaller CK3100 unit

hope this helps

let me know if you need anything else

Tim

oh think the older HU had a single pin at the back, clearly marked too if i remember rightly

I made a small metal bracket that the parrot screws to using one of the screws that holds the unit together and then fits behind the piano black trim to hold mine. No sticky pads marking the trim or dash and can be easily removed. I took one of the corners of the blanks off and feed the wire through there. I decided that if I was to ever remove it I would just buy another blank to replace it with. Thats on a facelift by the way.
The mic is mounted like everyone else on the A pilar with the wire hidden inside it. In both this car and the old A3 I just plugged in the wiring harness and the mute has worked, I haven't had to connect the extra wires to the back of the HU.

Thanks very much everyone.

Just fitted it, and it worked first time :) the only thing I need to do now is align the wire beneath the A pillar trim...the only thing is - I don't know how to unclip the trim!! Any suggestions? I'd imagine it's nice and easy, but I don't want to scuff it whilst guessing! heh

Then I can put everything back together.

That sounds like a neat idea there Jon - I don't have the facelift dash, so getting behind that facia could be a bit of a tough one - I used a dashmount kit for my ipod initially, but hated it and removed it. I might just sticky pad onto the blank covers, that way I too can just replace one of those in the future.

Thanks
Rob :)

just tuck it in mate, no need to remove the trim at all

Good luck with it, if its anything like mine it'll last for years

Every now and again it wouldn't connect properly and I had to turn the phone off and back on. anyone else had these issues? Saying that I'm not sure why I'm bothered, my motors now in Ireland.

Yep - realised that once I got looking - nice and easy :)

my old one did that where the unit would disconnect, sometimes its the phones fault......this CK3200 does it occasionally too but that is always the phones fault....Parrot still havent sorted phone book sync for N95's grrrrr

Top tip is keep it updated via laptop.... just dont disconnect halfway through flashing as i did with the misus CK3100, wouldnt accept any further updates :)...luckily she sold the car 2 months later without any knowledge of it:sex:
