Hi Guys

Before starting the car I have been met by a beeping noise from the back of the cabin.. Looking through the forums suggested the battery for the alarm was on the way out...

Audi Hatfield quoted me £198 to get it replaced.. However It has since stopped.. Is this a sign that the battery has completely drained ??

Thanks and regards

Tim

is that what it is? ******** - had this myself first time in the last few days (caused by hot weather recently?) , only a few times, not on every start - never knew what it was

Hi

Yes it appears that is what it likely is... I heard that there is potential for the battery to leak when drained and cause damage around the subwoofer area... Not sure how true this is... Id appreciate some other views on this... £198 seems excessive to just replace a battery, but then it was a quote from a main dealer !

Tim

yeh looks like it is that, thing is it replaces the whole siren and battery in it rather than the battery on it's own which is why it's so expensive (even though the siren noise is utter BS)

part number - 8LO 951 605A £86 on vagparts

found topics on the beeps all saying the same, diy jobby - http://www.tt-forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73315

looks a mare to do though

oh well, more money....... :Flush:

It is the battery on the siren, it can end up leaking and killing the whole siren.

However the siren in the car is crap anyway, i would recommend getting an aftermarket alarm fitted with a better siren, if they charging you £198!!

You can pick up decent alarms fitted for £180 nowadays and these are ones that you can hear.

Or you can cut the thing open and just replace the batteries, about £15 from Maplins.

Hi All,

Just done mine this morning. Fairly easy job, if you take your time and care.

You need to remove the rear trim panel, seat, near side boot trim & sub to get the sounder out.

Then follow the instructions in http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=39947

If anyone is near Bicester or Oxford and needs a hand with it, let me know.

Cheers,

is the siren the thing covered in grey sponge in the corner of the cubby hole nearest the flap to the rear of the car? (hope that makes sense)

I have had the beeping on/off for two and a half years and I believe its due to the dodgy door lock (when hot it thinks its open) as it means interior light /light underneath door stays on and drains the main battery which in turn doesn't charge the alarm back-up one.

maybe I'm completely wrong but I do know that mine is working still even though the beeps come and go with the summer

Your car beeps when the seats gets too bobbly and you forget to give them a shave... don't forget to add lotion after. :)

No that's the central locking pump, the alarm is further underneath the sub

I have a genuine new, boxed alarm unit for sale, I sold the car so its no longer needed... part number as in the post above for A3 8L.

Any interest for £50?
