I have a 1.8TQS for sale , its in the audisport classifieds and will pop up on the autotrader website anytime soon.
They seem to be a hot topic round here with pricing.
Any how mine is up for £4520 with 26700 ish miles on it.
Parkers private good milage adjusted.
Moderators - apoligies if I am not allowed to post a reference to an advert.
Check out the classified for the full lowdown.
Everyone else - good luck with your sales

Good luck with it, nice price, I thought mine was low mileage! Beware of the low mileage troll :scared2:

:p

i can see the point of people saying low mileage can be bad, time is as big a killer for some components just as "mileage" is and how the car has been driven can have a big bearing. If the car has done 20k miles but every single one was in coldstart mode driving to the shop 2miles away then the engine will be in worse condition than one thats been properly looked after and done 80k miles of motorway crusing.

Would you use 10 year old tyres even if they still had 7mm of tread on them? I cant say i'd have much faith in them. Timing belts etc have a limited time span as well as mileage so even tho its well below its service interval it might still need changed. Same applies with the suspension bushings and hoses.

There also comes a point in any cars life when lots of things fail and require replacing. Buying the car after all this has been done is more sensbile than buying one thats 10k away from the timebomb...

I'm not saying that all low mileage cars are bad, just that you need to look at the whole car with an open mind and clear head and not fixate on the reading in the odometer meaning that everything is going to be spot on, and that sometimes, a higher mileage car is a better buy.

Low mileage doesnt automaticaly mean lots of short/town trips.

It could also mean normal trips just not every day.

In the real world most people will perceive low mileage to be better(in terms of potential future maintaince costs) hence the higher price.

Modern semi/synthetic oils have removed most of the problems associated with cold starting a car - once the condensation has stopped blowing out the exhaust (which is gone before the coolent temp reaches normal) you can also assume the bottom end killing moisture has been removed from the crankcase.

So people are trying to apply old arguments to new technology.

It all depends who's driven it and maintained it.

How many of us have been overtaken by a hard charging high mileage rep car?
How many of us have seen Mrs jones down the road take her car out the garage once a week and pop into town and thought - that will make a brillant car for some one,I bet its not been in 5th gear?

You pay the price you take your choice

May I just point out I was unable to find the :tongueincheek: emoticon for my previous post.

My A4 had 80,000 on it when I bought it 18 months ago and it's former owner had abused it badly - When I spoke to the service dealership they knew the car as soon as I gave them the reg - it had constantly been in and out for loads of silly problems. I bit the bullet (mainly because of a fantastic p/ex offer for my Passat VR6) and the oil pressure alarmed the day I brought it home. I replaced the oil pump myself, service it every 6000 to be on the safe side and since then I've had no major problems, despite my 'enthusiastic' driving style. The car's now on 101,000 miles and is a solid, reliable little motor. I hope the RS4 that will replace it is as well behaved.

Like James has said, it's all down to how a car has been driven and maintained.

Very low mileage that.
Good luck with the sale, i feel the market is a bit flooded so you will struggle a bit to get what you are looking for, but you do have the exceptional low milage on your side.Good Luck again

Sorry for continuing on this negative thread, but thats not the entire issue here. When the car is in cold start mode (ie until the coolant is upto temp) the fuel mix is enriched by quite a substantial amount. It can be as much as 25-30% at very low temps (say below 50c) which is why when the CTS fails peoples fuel economy usually drops by a huge amount (my own car had a faulty thermostat when i bought it and the temp wasnt getting above 60c, and it was down about 25% on its fuel economy too due to the fuel enrichment.)

This rich fuel mixture causes bore wash. This is where the lubricating film of oil on the bore walls dissolves and is washed into the sump by the excess fuel, stopping the bores being correctly lubricated. With normal driving this isnt much of an issue (athough it IS when most of the bore wear occurs) as its not happening for very long. However if the car is never being driven upto temperature, as with the "driving two miles to the shops" example the bores will be in worse condition than a car thats done far more mileage with a correct fuel mix.

Anyways, i hope you manage to shift the car. You should look to advertise it on pistonheads too as its a pretty big website and has a lot of enthusiasts etc and a huge classifieds section!

I can see your point on that one and wont deny it doesnt happen as yes cars do run rich during their cold start map.
But all cars have to go throught that point to get to the warm running/normal conditions so will also have been "bore washed" to some extent.
And a car with higher mileage may have had just as many in indeed more "bore wash" cycles on its way to the mileage it has got.Running the car after the "bore wash" wont fix what the petrol has done. So while it may be less worn per mile than a "cold" car it may still be more worn over all.
Luckily we are on a Audi car forum and we all know these engines are capable of big mileages with the right person looking after them!
There must be some irony someware that most people on this forum probably love and cherish their cars yet the one of the most detrimental things we do to them is put a corrosive fuel like petrol or diesel in them(not including crashing them in to things!).
Thanks for the info on piston heads. I will have a look.

Wow that is a low mileage!! You must never use the car. I bought mine with 18.5k on the clock......4 and a half years ago.

Good luck with the sale.

Hi mate,

Not sure yet, so many cheap cars on the go!

I have about 8k + what i get for the A4, just need to find something i like.

Fancy a change from the A4, but havent ruled out an S4.

Derek

Yeah some nice cars are availiable for silly money at the moment with the tax and petrol costs rising. Is like when the insurance costs went through the roof for sierra cosworths etc years ago.

Yeah correct :)

I'm in Aberdeen (previously Stonehaven), I havent actually advertised the car yet but will do this weekend.

I'll get some pics but its basicly as per these below (Taken in Jan08) except theres some rust forming on the boot where it bubbles on all the facelift A4's where the plastic strip above the number plate rubs, also a little bit on the edge of the rear drivers side arch (tiny) and the odd scratch/stone chip.

Alloys are the std. 17" ones with decent yoko tyres, but they are coroded as they all do again, and could do with a re-furb.

Interior is very clean, and runs well.

This is all reflected in the price of course, and i am being realistic (Unlike other adverts i've seen).

Need any more info let me know, this is my fourth A4 and second 1.8tqs and altho the bodywork and wheels could do with some tlc it has been a great car. This is the only one i havent modified really, the only mods i've done are Xenon conversion kit, and the floppy wiper kit which makes the wipers look v.clean! :) If your nice i'll throw in a BRAND NEW magic tree!!!!! :hubbahubba:

Back to the original topic!
Car is sold to first viewer at very near the asking price!
In the real world low mileage clean cars sell quick.
aragorn- thanks for the tip - it went via piston heads.

No way have you sold it already, I need shut of mine as got my eye on a Honda Prelude. Mines on the auto trader for £4250 OVNO, do you think I should leave at that or drop it a tad more? Im losing a shed load of money as it is but just want rid of it now its boring the pants off me and need to get back into a VTEC motor ASAP!

bong as i said to james, get it on pistonheads, the type of enthusiasts that your looking for use it so get it on there and hopefully you'll get it shifted.

Yep its gone - done and dusted paid cash, I was very happy with the price and the buyer is chuffed to bits with the car.
Bong - put it on piston head, lets just say its a better demographic for selling sporty cars and its a ****** site cheaper than autotrader.
Cheers
James

Its on both piston heads and auto trader, has been on piston heads for a week and auto trader for about 5 days. Just want rid now, if that prelude gets sold I am going to be gutted :(

Prelude, ummm nice, suits you sir! When are you getting the elasticated trousers and the adult diapers?

Haha, I wont be going into car preference on a biased forum, that would just be silly wouldnt it. I much prefer Honda and have always wanted a prelude but never been able to find a mint one and trust me they are quick, a hell of a lot quicker than my A4, my old civic 1.6 vti was quicker than my a4!

Only the VTi is quicker and only by half a second. Would hardly call that "a hell of a lot quicker than my A4". In the wet the A4 will **** all over it, unless there's something severely wrong with your 1.8TQS?

Nope, got my 1.8TQS back from awesome gti and everything is fine but thanks for your concern. I dont call manufacturers quoted 0-60 figures real world driving TBH. Trust me, my civic 1.6 VTI was quicker than my A4, so was my 1.8 VTI, the 1.6 would of struggled in the wet as it had yoko parada which are **** in the wet and obviously its a 160BHP FWD hatch in a light chasis, but the 1.8 with GSD3's and LSD seemed to put its power down quite well in the wet, I miss that car loads and seriously regret selling it

In real world driving there would be nothing in it, if anything the A4 would be quicker, quattro vs 2WD anyone?
And everyone knows pig ugly cars are slower, and they don't get much uglier than the prelude!

What a pathetic argument, so if a car has a quattro badge its automatically quicker than a 2wd drive car of a similer power output, rubbish.
I think if you come up against a VTI you are going to get a bit of surprise! And your blinkers are showing TBH, the a4 is a nice comfy car with a decent spec, its not particulary quick and involving to drive, I would go as far to say that its quite boring and if I was buying a car based on its looks I wouldnt of ended up with a B5 A4, they are not the best looking cars are they and I agree neither is the prelude but I really dont give a monkeys what it looks like as long as I enjoy the drive

My mate has had two VTI's and loved them. If your on the HondaTech websites or that would maybe recognise them. My A4 is quicker than them, were good fun cars though.

Yup but your A4 is a bit of an animal isnt it! I registered on hondatech but got the impression it was a more of a forum for local owners, scotland I think

No, read the words in the reply, slowly this time, so your brain can digest them properly. You said straight line 0-60 times didn't mean a lot in real world driving, which is right, 4WD only really comes into play on the twisty stuff, therefore the A4 would gain in a real world scenario.
I was merely questioning your "logic" in choosing a car. You want it to be quicker than your current car, but then choose a car that isn't quicker and referring to it as "a hell of a lot quicker than my A4", which it clearly isn't.
If you want a more involving drive then I understand the choice, but you made no mention of that in your original response.

Need to sell the audi first. Already had 3 civic VTI's dont really fancy another unless someone else has done the modding for me so its either this prelude I have my eye on which unfortunaltylisnt the 200BHP model (its 180BHP) but that will do me fine anway, or an integra if the right one came up but looked at integras before and most of them were really not looked after which is a real shame, plus I dont think I could live with an integra as a daily

Really do want this prelude though, I doubt my a4 is going to sell anytime soon though, just dont seem to be getting any interest at all

I have owned both and dont agree, sorry. I never said I wanted a quicker car, I just said it was quicker, maybe I shouldnt of said "a hell of a lot" but still, stock for stock, the civic is quicker.

Anyway, its irrelevent. I am hoping for a prelude, but will consider any VTEC honda, maybe even a civic again as they good cheap fun and off cam they are great on petrol.

Here is one thing I noticed about honda and audi ownership, when I had VTEC I would find myself going out for no reason (even on my third VTI) just to go for a drive and have a bit of fun. In 7 months of 1.8T Audi ownership I have not done that once, not slagging it off at all, just saying that it doesnt do anything for me personally

Yer i can understand people liking different cars. My brother has an E30 and was driving the A4 at the weekend. If he ignored my particular cars foibles (the crap front tyres and dodgy engine mounts) he said that while it was nice enough to drive, it just didnt feel as involving a drive as his E30. Maybe a quattro would be different, but for him he just didnt like the A4 as much.

Ummm just like all Honda drivers then, fannying around on our roads with no sense of purpose clogging up Britains arteries, just what we need!

Enjoy your car, been a pleasure chatting with you :icon_thumright:

I get ****** on by Honda's all the time, does my titties in!
Fair play I'm only 150BHP but I have a few friends with Honda's (fastest at the top);

JDM Civic SiR 1.6 VTEC (semi modified engine)
JDM CRX 1.6 non VTEC (full exhahst & air filter)
JDM Prelude 2.2 VTEC Gold Badge Auto (full exhaust & air filter)
JDM Prelude 2.2 VTEC Auto (cat back exhaust & air filter)

and then me in my A4 :(

I think Honda's build awsome engines that are so easily tuned but they are mega common up here
