Quarter Mile Times.. who has slips in a S3?

I'd had is with the passenger seatbelt in my 323Ci and it's starting to appear in the M3. Tuck the seatbelt buckle thingy down firmly between the seat and the tunnel, and it will stop rattle until next time you have a passenger.
 
Moff got a 14.45 at santa pod...standard 225 S3. Terminal speed was 92mph IIRC.

high 13 is M3 territory (13.8s and 343bhp)!

very interested int his also! I currently have a clio 16v that i expect to run flat 14's at circa 100mph! Im selling the clio to fund an S3, i know it will be a drop in performance but the S3 is so much more then outright pace!
Clio has williams conversion and stripped out, it ran a 14.3 in this state, since i have owned it it has had cams, full zorst, modified air box, kent cams and the almighty SMT6 engine managment, that'l be 179 bhp, 173lb/ft of torque, and all in a car weighing less then 900kg, 210bhp/ton anyone?

i was expecting 13's all the time cos STI's have about the same power to weight and they pull 13's all the time
 
I reckon my car could do high 13's, but only if I could drive it around a bit, and then stage immediately. I get the same thing on the road sometimes, the first blast only gives me part boost, a second blast within a certain period of time will give me full boost.

I've noticed that since the temperature has dropped lately that I pretty much always get full boost on the road now, so it probably is heat related.

Maybe a FMIC is the way to go...

Well if you look at the Attachment to the earlier post by H3MSY you will see an STI doing 14.45.. so I guess they don't always do 13's. A lot of it is up to the driver, and how much punishment they are willing to give their machine at launch. Personally I was comparatively gentle, mainly because when I tried to get a bit more aggressive with the launch I bogged down, and it was too embarrassing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now, you on the other hand are a well known car abuser, I seem to recall you saying once that you drive your car as if you'd stolen it, hence you getting such good times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, with an accelerometer (G-Tech Pro) I've reached 13.89 and 164 km/h. Mods are Revo with SPS3 (HB9 T6). According to the manufacturer the accelerometer is very accurate... (on the same run 0-100 km/h was 5.9 sec)

This was during winter so the temperature was very favourable but on the other hand I had wheelspin (yep, on all four) on the first gear due to having winter tires.

I'm pretty sure that with a perfect launch and favourable conditions a tenth or two can be shaved.

Or maybe, just maybe, finnish S3's just are fast? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
G-Tech Pro aren't that accurate. I've heard they can be up to 5km/h at about 100km/h due to something called the pitch factor... i.e. when the weight transfer causes the front end of the car to lift (or the back end to drop).

Supposedly G-Tech are aware of this problem and the next firmware release should fix it, however, they are only as accurate as the variables you enter into it.
 
Hey Imola S3, thanks for bringing that piece of information to my attention. Apparently there really is an issue with the pitch, however it is not an issue with all cars. I have to follow that one up so don't take my numbers too seriously /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was hoping the temp would drop lower, it was 10 by the time I got home, and the car was running very well.

Oh well.. now I know why some drivers were carrying around bags of ice to keep their intercoolers cold, a bit tricky for the S3 side mounted ones I think.

Since I put in my OCT FMIC my car runs extremely consistently and heatsoak is not an issue - that should be your next mod. btw Derek called me today to find out details on mine on your behalf. In regards to a good 4WD launch - when you hook it up properly you will know it... the front of the car lifts alot and the catapult effect is voilent /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif 5K revs with slight clutch slip will always do the trick - done properly its not *that* brutal on the clutch... ask Kris who has been in mine when I've done this.

I agree, since putting the FMIC on I get 14's all the time where before I got the od 14 and some low 15' (bear in mind the wheels scrub some speed of).

Not a bad mod over all, certainly makes the car perform more consistantly, but just don't expect mirical bhp gains, they simply arn't there.

I ran a 14.3 yesterday at Edzell. Speed was 97.4 mph.

I also met Steve (ScotSTHREE) - always good to put a face to a name!

Some sideways action and 4WD doughnuts on the grass at the end of the day was decent eh Steve? Remember to send me the video of it!

how dissapointing! I must say, i expected the S3 to have much better times, i was under the impression that it could 1/4 in mid 14's as standard? so at 260bhp and with 4WD i would hope it could be staring at almost flat 14's!?

Got a 14.7 at santapod today, wasn't too happy was hopping for low 14's.
 
hopefully going to head over to york raceway at the end of the month and get a load of runs rather than 3 at pod! I'll hold out the temptation of panning the revs over 6k, like u say there is no point, and try an get some low 14's.

It weird cos the car seems to have loads of torque, I was eaisily spinning up the tyres in the burn out area. I do need to tyres tho! I had to enter into the "Slicks and other" catagory "X" at pod, I was up against 600bhp skylines, hehehe. Still not washed the car been running around with X195 (race number) written on the back window since weekend! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
