Only today is started playing up. It will play a CD for about 10 to 30secs, then switch itself off and then on again and resume the track.. CONSTANTLY!

How annoying..

Does anyone know why this is?

Tried a few different CD's and also the Radio, both do it. This is the front loading 6CD indash Symphony II as fitted to MY02+ S3's

Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

Could be a number of things. I'm assuming this is with the engine running, so it's not because your battery is low.
Sounds like a CAN-BUS problem. Newer Audi's use this bus to control the "switched" status of the HU, as opposed to the normal switched ignition lead to the HU. If the bus is playing up it would think the keys were out of the ignition and thus turn itself off. This system provides that "oh so useful" feature of allowing the HU to be turned on without the keys in the ignition for up to an hour.
Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do as this is not a serviceable part of the system (unless your an electronics boffin, with oscilloscopes and the like).
Job for the dealer I'm afraid, should still be under warranty.

That's probably the problem, I don't think any Audi head unit is meant to be used everyday, let alone heavily.

Your car is rebelling against the dire quality if the Symphony headunit, replace it with an aftermarket job you won't regret it.

The symphony is actually very impressive, ive had a aftermarket unit (soundstream, clarion & a/d/s) and this sounds better imo

Sure theres not as much bass, but Im not a big fan of that anyway.

Kris,

My Symphony II did that a couple of months ago, just kept switching itself off and then on. It only did it on one journey to work and hasn't done it since.

I did check with VAG-COM and it said something about CAN-BUS intermittient error, but as I say it hasnt done it since so I left it.

Dunc

s8n if you like it then stick with it, each to their own.

Dunc, yep exactly the same thing.. Going for a drive shorlty so ill see if it does it again! Didnt early this am.

Garethj, I will /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

OK if you think Clarion make quality aftermarket headunits then I expect the Symphony will be fine.

Hi Kris (s8n),

My Symphony II started doing exactly the same thing today, it resets pretty much dead on every 30 seconds. As you say it's really annoying! Especially as it happened on a long trip.

Did yours fix itself?

Cheers,

Edward.

My Symphony II has no AM reception at all and i need a soloution

Well it's been working again today, so I guess it was a one off.

One thing I do remember is that just before it started I'd stopped off for a pie and when I started the car it took a little while to start (usually it's instant). So it does sound like some sort of problem with the CANBUS. Hopefully it doesn't extend to other problems later on (when the warranty has run out no doubt).

If it happens again I'll turn the car off and on again to reset the problem.

Cheers, Edward.
