airbox mod ?

looks like a good idea, cant see any problems with that. Be good for me as im saving for the baby so cant afford a proper intake yet

me too baby due in aug !!

I've drilled my airbox in the area they have removed in the pictures. Will it not draw water in when its raining???

according to all the americans they had no problems with the filter getting wet, he has used fly mesh on the wheel arch and air box just to make sure also drilled a small hole at the bottom corner of the air box for a drain just incase.

Hmmm might be worth a go then, anyone got a spare air box???

Looking at that though some water must get into there of the tyres during heavy rain?

I've done a similar mod but ran a sealed CAI into the base of the air box and down to the vent in the bumper. I've had no issues with moisture etc.
Also smoothed the internals out of the air box.

instead of drilling thru the arch liner etc, wouldn't it be possible/better to drill out the front edge of the airbox that points towards the headlight?

That way your not risking excessive water ingress while still allowing more air into the airbox. I dont believe heat soak would be too much of a problem either unless your sitting stationary for a long period of time as there will be plenty airflow blowing around in that area anyway once your driving along, and compared to the roasting the turbos going to give it anyway any slight increase will be negligable!

i have done a similar mod to mine, i have a cone filter tho, as i have no heat shealing from the turbo, i just have a 4" pipe commin up from the front of car, (relocated horn) and have cut a whole in the arch, the filter sits ontop of the 4" pipe and slightly pops out the hole icut in arch. i have no drama with the wet, and it hissis like a beyatch when you floor it! (it has also made the wastegate chatter alot louder!

this is what i have done to my intake!
