I'm soon going to be buying a Sony 40 inch tv but I need to be able to fit it in my car for the drive back to Germany at the end of my leave. Anyone had any experience with this??

Cheers

As long as you don't try watching it while you drive you should be OK!

Seriously though, it should fit if it is an LCD one as it can be stowed on the flat. you're not supposed to transport a plasma any way other than vertically.

yeah the dash is double din, I don't think the 40" will fit in th opening :)

Yes it fits. I brought home a Sony Bravia 40" TV. Be careful how you support the TV as the rear seats don't fold flat. I used some dust sheets to support it just in case.

yeah, when I first read this topic title I thought you were going down the

route!!

I suppose it may boil down to packaging.

Some manufacturers may be less economical which could easily add 3-4 inches on either side...

Just a thought.

despite it being a 1080 tv, you may be disturbed by the pixelation from being 60cm away from it in the drivers seat.
i hope you dont plan on doing the VIM hack... thats illegal man

Thanks for all the replies guys! I have been out all day collecting my S3 from Brighton, literally just got back. And now I can order my new TV with confidence!

And no I'm not planning an install lol

Right the TV has just been delivered (at 0650!!!!!!) and the box is huuuuuuge! It's 55 inches long for crying out loud. But I have been out with the tape measure and it'll fit

Now I've just got to try and fit in my Tatonka 80L barrel bag, another holdall, My bike leathers, helmet, PS3 and my DVD surround sound boxes in the car also!

Cheers again guys

I hope you mean it fits VERTICALLY.
You don't want to be carting around a big sheet of glass horizontally if you can help it!

Can't you sneak it onto an MoD transport vehicle? Might be able to put it through as "humanitarian aid"!

How come you didn't just buy it in Germany when you get back? Was it cheaper to buy in Blighty?

lol If I knew of any vehicles going from UK to Germany then I would but it's not that simple.

It was cheaper from the UK than from any German shop even without the tax! TVs are expensive in Germany.
