GENUINE AUDI A4 A3 S3 red ambient lights S4 RS4 TDI

I've fitted these to mine and love it :) Takes 10 mins to fit as all the wiring is in place already, you just need to drill 2 holes in the interior light cluster. It was quite an expensive factory option I believe.

I'm looking to fit these in the back of the car next :)

I even went to the VW dealer to try and find out about this, they said no way - too expensive. Good find.

Did mine ages ago but used blue leds to complemnt the rest of the interior lighting. Well worth it. Dont really notice them unless you 'notice' them.

Suggest you ask vag parts for a price as it might well be cheaper thant he guy on ebay!

PM sent themanthatcan

Again, they look hard to fit...did it mess up the plastic headliner at all etc.

I bought this module off that ebay guy a few days ago. He's sent me the PDF document as a guide, and I've had the interior light cover off to check. It is all there ready to go in my 99 1.8Ts so hopefully, I'll receive the module to put in tomorrow!

Looks relatively simple to do, and the effect should be worth while!

Am i missing something here, as im sure my car has this in it already and my previous A4 had it in as well???

I just bought this too! :) Anybody got any pics of it in the car.. like of the actual place where the light is coming from? Please please :icon_thumright:

Cheers

Just fitted mine. Doddle to do. The light comes from just in front of the sunroof switch. Can't wait for it to get dark!

pardon me but what the feck is this ambient lighting? i cant get ebay at work so cant view the first link

Bah..looks like ambient lighting is the new black grille surround..everybody is doing it!

Tim - It's a couple of LEDs fitted up in the interior light panel which shine a red glow down over the gear stick area. Very much like the red glow in the cubby hole below the ash tray but a lot more subtle.

Can't you just change the festoon bulbs in the interior lighting to red ones instead? I know the Berkshire Flipper did it with his. Or do these 'fade in' and 'fade out' ?

And does that require an ignition feed for them to remain on whilst driving?

You could but they'd be useless if you wanted to find anything in the footwells compared to normal white bulbs! The ambient lighting comes on with the headlights and just provides a "glow". It's supposed to make night driving more comfortable and put less strain on your eyes.

so how does your kit differ from the originals..... and what cable runs did you have to do, to get it fitted?

And does that require an ignition feed for them to remain on whilst driving?

It's a genuine VAG part. All the wiring is up there already as part of the interior light panel. The unit connects via a couple of spade connectors and that's it..no cable runs required.

The only "effort" you need to make is drill 2x holes in the panel at the front of the light cluster, which will take you 2 mins with a drill.

I've got the fitting instructions at home which I can email over if you like. All the units on eBay have sold out now though so you'll have to source one from somewhere like Vagparts.

Andy

That kit is awfully expensive. If you've got a 2000-2003 A3 with the larger interior light, you can use the A3 8P part, which fits the exact same way. The part number is 8E0 919 063A, and costs about €10.

Just ordered one direct from the dealer £10.42 inc VAT using the part number from the box in the picture on the ebay ad or as dubturbo said, should come in Thursday.

Sorry to those that bought it off ebay for more :-(

Looks like a neat little mod, think i might have to get don the dealers and spend some money.

Its amazing how all these sellers on ebay manage to sell things for more than you can get them direct from the stealers, i guess alot of people dont check before buying. At least these are only a couple of quid more than from the stealers, which is better than the Seat LCR front splitters that are being sold for more than double the price you can get them from the stealers.

Yeah they should only be about a tenner from the stealers but I couldn't be ***** to a) phone them up to order one and b) drive down there to pick it up. By buying on ebay I paid a bit more but it arrived directly on my doorstep. The LCR splitters really are a joke though!

I agree with manthatcan....I got mine of fleabay, screw the stealers, when I went down to VW in Jan. they just laughed and said it can't be done. The salestwat tried to flog me the whole passat healiner for £150 after that, i told them to stuff it...he then said I doubt if out techs would do the job anyway... £8 extra..., plus PDF file, everytime :nunu:

One question for you mantahtcan or anyone. The electrical connection is it literally just a plug in job, or do I need to solder it a bit?

I's just spade connectors. No soldering required.

I don't mind buying it off ebay either, as It would cost me more to drive to the stealers anyway!

I don't think I would have attempted getting it from the dealer without jester posting the pdf, so thanks goes to him. Dealer is a 5 minute trip for me so I'd rather get it from them but I know what everyone is saying.

Are these available at Audi only? or can you order them from a VW dealer ??? I have a VW local and Audi is miles away!!!

:beerchug: Yea!! A drink for that man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks good, will this work on a pre-facelift S3?

yes, I was surprised about this also...Audi have obviously planned ahead with their lighting kits...

I would be very interested in the actual price as a dealer option, as apparantly it was very expensive! Anybody any ideas?

depends how much weight she'd have to lose to accomodate your tiny ****

Any chance this mod would work in a 98 A3 as it looks a little different, would the wiring already be there?

Come on broad read the whole link, don't be so lazy...read above (tut tut...lol):moa:

yeah yeah ok!! my bad anybody got any pics with this fitted in the older style plastic thingy??

I've fitted the pre-2000 type to a Polo 9N of all things, for a friend of mine :) The light itself is from a Passat W8, similar this one:

Physically it fits morealess straight in, a model specific adaptor is usually required to match up with the original interior light wiring, but that is usually supplied when you specify your type of car. There is one small amount of wiring you will have to do yourself, you have to run a single wire from the new light, down the pillar to the headlight switch, and splice into to the dash lighting wiring to get the feed for the ambient LEDs and switch backlighting. It's a nice job once it's in though :)
