for the last couple of months my oil light has been coming on about once a week for a few seconds dripping on the screen ? i check the oil level every time but it remains fine ? i have changed the oil but it still comes on now and again ? my car is a a4 1.8t sport

Oil pressure warning is not an oil level indicator.

It could be down to either of the following:

1) Faulty oil pressure switch
2) Dirty oil pick-up
3) Worn / lazy oil pump

Since it's irregular, I'd rule out the switch / switches being faulty.

As for a dirty oil pick-up / sludge, I wouldn't even bother with flushing.

The sump MUST be removed, to do a good job of cleaning the oil pick-up, and the sump. This is the first thing I'd do.

If after re-assembly, and after fitting a new oil filter, and filling with fresh oil, the problem still persists, then I'd say you need a new oil pump.

TBH, one the sump is off to do the pick up, i would stick a pump in anyway due to the amount of work needed to get the sump off

what would you use to clean the sump and stainer ?

how much for a new oil pump ? also is there a strainer in there as well ? should i replace that as well ?

I clean sumps and all associated parts with diesel, never had anny issues.

diesel ? do you just spray on and rub with a wire brush ?

I bought a pump and strainer for under £70, then the sump gasket was £20 iirc. For me it bought peace of mind

where from ? also whats a iirc ? sorry for being thick as sh*t !
