Right guys decided to keep the S3 and get a custom code remap. What things would you guys recomend i upgrade before the remap i.e. DV, air filter, TIP etc. Also what brands should i use ? Know this has probably been done to death but i would really appreciate some advice

cheers james

iv heard for the dv most go for the forge 007, as for air filter the green panel seem popular, as for tip forge again i would say

Hmm personally I would stick with stock dv and filter, most people seem to agree the standard filter is not restrictive for a remapped S3 so wont bring you any gains. The DV certainly wont, but people do replace as its stronger than standard, however you could buy 3 OE DV's for the price of the forge! Cant comment on the tip, but I guess Forge would be as good as any if it does help, although again I think gains would be marginal. I would spend the £250 odd towards something else or just save it for a holiday :)

DV wont give you increase but ideally i'd remap the car with it on. The Bailey Venturi Dump valve sounds amazing abit like a chain cracking.. and is much better your average DV. On the last turbo car we tryed out 8 different dump valves before i found one that didnt sound like a coke can opening. However did make the car run abit strange before we got a standalone ECU, didnt work too well with the MAF, so get one see if runs laggy, or stutters at all.. another one that sounds good is a turbo smart DV, very very loud and its adjustable depending on what kinda sound you want to hit. This worked alot better with the MAF. But worth taking both and speaking to CC maybe there experience will tell you if the Venturi works well with the s3s as i havnt tryed it yet, Does sound good tho.

What things would you guys recomend i upgrade before the remap

How much do you have to spend, and what gains are you looking for?

Ive just installed a Forge Split-R dump valve onto my A3 and it sounds great, not too loud, just subtle and scares the chavs :) Might be worth looking at..

Ive heard that atmospheric dump valves can cause problems with the 1.8T as its a re-circ. system. quite like the sound of the split r but the other DVs are a little too chavvy for my taste ! must be getting old ! not really looking for huge power gains just want to ive the old girl a new lease of life so to speak !

Jamie, the main thing? upgrade your coil packs if they haven't been done already.....about £90 from the dealers....dont buy from anywhere else cos they'll most likely be an older part as they change that often............ as for the DV, change if you want but it wont make hardly any difference at all!! Wil just be more reliable than an OEM part which are cheap as chips and easy to fit, if you do get a bailey etc, it will need to be recirculating as the other kind supposed to mess up the car in some way throwing up VAG errors.... plus you dont really want that Whoosh noise that the kids get around Maccy D's car parks....

Regards the filter...... i have no idea of the benefit..... again, id imagine a bit of noise.... a maybe a couple of Bhp but really not sure

Had to laugh yesterday......saw this lad pull into our local retail park, baseball cap and the like, pulled right across two disabled spots in his 99 1.8T with turbo written across the back.... dump valve Tssss' ing away.... what a ****, wonder if he realised he was making reducing the performance of his car:applaus:

lmfao  Well i think ill give the tsshhhhhh valve a miss !! where abouts in sheff are ya tim ? Me and the missus used to live there moved down south now :(

just off junction 30 of M1 mate.... near Crystal Peaks....are you a Sheff lad?

I cant emphasis enough mate, my packs went the day after i had the map done, themanthatcan, had his go on the drive home, i would definately get some bought and replaced.....im sure CC would fit them for ya, but their easy enough

The Split R isnt really loud to be honest, just sounds modest, and it is a recirc valve, if you read up on it on the Forge website its a recirc and a blow off in one - not sure how it works but ive lost no power whatsoever and im not getting any errors on VAGCOM.

Obviously its preference but the tssshhh sound your talking about just lets people know your driving a turbo - deters the dumbass punto and corsa scallywags trying to race you cutting you up on dual carriage ways!

id get a bailey dv 30 recirc valve they are almost silent and seem to work well,id leave the panel filter or get a k&n or pipercross filter, and id upgrade the tip i bought an autobahn 888 tip from ebay for 64quid inc delivery worth every penny.

When I took mine to JBS they put in a green panel filter for £40, fitted and supplied a Forge TIP and I got them to fit a Hyperboost DV. Think it came to about £600 including Remap.

Obviously all depends what you want, the Tssss sound is something that is so far away from OEM, and if they are dumbass's cutting you up, then why should that deter them..... a quick nudge on the throttle to **** em off is the only thing that will cure that.... the Tsss sound is Maccy D's IMO brap brap:haha:

just out of interest ,where abouts can you get a cc map?

no not a sheff lad tim. moved up there when the misus decided to do an english degree first lived on city road opp. the cemetary then moved out to crookes.
im still not too sure to change the DV if i can get 3 OE ones for the same price if it does go. The coil packs make definate sense but what about things like the MAF ?
CC offer a mobile service Danny look up on their website and itll tell you which one is nearest.

Definatly agree with you, but you have to hear the Venturi before you think its chavvy.. Its more of a KUSSHHH.. with a tinge of metal smashing together. Its nuts. Doesnt sound cheap at all. sounds mechanical if that makes sense... Where as usual DVs just sound cheesy and very Mcy D's/KFC drive through.

ANd hows sunny Cheltenham in comparison?;)......... TBH sheff is on the turn around i think, clubbing went down the hill when crasher burnt down... the centre seems to be on the mend though, loads of building work going on.......ooooh Crookes

I havent changed anything but the coils.... and personally not gonna bother with the DV as what i have read is not enough reason to change. Not sure about the MAF. Jamie, you'll love it mate:laugh:

any chance of a sound clip if you can get it?

You'll know if they've gone!! your car will be missfiring and shaking like mad with no power! Each cylinder has a coilpack which fits in ontop of the spark plug and these can perish with heat so are common failures after a remap (more boost = higher temps!). Worth replacing, as most people's go! Mine went a couple of months after my remap but others like animal's went on the same day i think!!

You can be proactive and replace them if they've not already been done or just buy a spare set and replace them as and when they go as it's pretty easy.

although i would be very sceptical about doing any long trips.... once one goes, its not adviseable to drive it for long...something to do with the unburnt fuel ruining your CAT's inards

Tim, whats the difference with the upgraded coil packs??? I got told (after id melted one of my spark plugs in my old pre-facelift) that you should upgrade your spark plugs to higher heat rating as maps can melt them due to higher heat!!! Anybody else had this happen???

Agree with Klepto and 1animal1. I have a CC and kept with the stock DV and Air Filter. I have however uprated my turbo hoses to Samco all round just to improve airflow and because one was split. On the CoilPacks I would definitely recommend buying a couple and keeping them in the car, as they do seem to be the most common thing to fail after a remap.

well ive ordered 3 new coil packs and the old girl is having her brakes done today in preperation for the remap !!! just gotta find a nice set of sillicone hoses now and ill be ready to book her in !!!

I've got Samco blue for the TIP and the two upper boost hoses cost @ £250 for all. You can get ones off ebay for half the price; Danotto has the red Autohaus888 TIP on his with no qualms. There are now loads of makes out there Samco, SFS, Forge, HK Crap, AutoHaus88 etc I guess it'll come down to the price and colour. Personally I went for Samco Blue as they looked good (plus the black was all out of stock) and are a proven make (couldn't get Forge at the time)

jester where did you buy them from and did you fit them yourself?

At the time only places I could find the blue ones in stock were EuroPerformance (TIP) and theTTshop (Boost hoses). The TIP i got Storm to fit it whilst doing my service; Danotto fitted his so may be worth PMing him for details. The upper ones I fitted, you have to take off the bumper (if you have a facelift) to fit the drivers side boost hose as it is beind the headlight the otherside is straightforward enough. You need 2 x 60/80mm and 2 x 50/70mm clips for these hoses. For the TIP check out this picture for info on clip sizes:

Scott, ive not heard that...... id only just had my spark plugs done @ the 80k service so wasnt an issue.....

Only one of my coil packs went, but i replaced the whole lot.... just so happens mine went as i was overtaking and forced me to drop back, i have replaced all 4 and kept 2 old ones in the boot along with an allen key and 10mm spanner just incase..... that will give me a chance to get a new one ordered.... through my experiance, id be worried about any old packs going so have replaced all

i went for the mintex pads and matched discs from the bay 73 quid plus 11 quid postage cant go wrong ! just biding my time now for the hoses then i might have a go a fitting them my self. How hard are they to fit ???? ill probably only get the TIP first

Real easy job to fit mate, the fronts are easier than the rears. You need a caliper wind back tool fro the rears but you can get away without one for the fronts.

TIP is a knuckle scrapper whilst the boost hoses are easier to do.

Agree with S3Steve fitted my fronts at the weekend make sure you have a decent socket wrench, power/breaker bar, 7mm Hex Key Set and 18mm 1/2 Socket and you are good to go.
