Hi Folks,

Anyone have any idea how long the exhaust system in an A6 1.9TDi 130 should last? Judging by the lack of discussion on the subject on here, I guess it should be a while. Just trying to figure out how much the car is going to cost me over the next couple of years. Currently it is just over 4 years old, 50k miles.

Thanks.

The dual exhaust on my '99 A6 (125k miles) is the original, and it shows no signs of failing for a while. Thank f**k. I'm not looking forward to that bill.

The original catalytic converter on my Merc E-Class failed after 135k miles and 11 years.

My A6 is a 1998 2.4 V6 with 96,000 miles under its belt and still on the original exhaust. No signs of wear or tear either.

My 2001 A6 TDI has 185000 on the original pipe. Our 1995 A4 1.9TDi did 176000 before we sold it, the 1989 A80 2.0i did 202000 and went to the scrapyard still wearing the original pipe, my 1998 Passat 1.9TDI did 214000 before i sold it. As long as the pipe gets hot enough every day to burn all the moisture and gunk out of it I think you should be OK.

Thanks a lot for the replies, guys - looks like that's not a bill I need to worry about.

Mickey Mines at 146K and 99/2000 a6 and still on the original as far as i know i have no service history containing an exhaust replacement and it was a lease car before i got it at 87K

The backbox is stainless steel and wil last a life time, the rest is thick mild steel, so if anything that will go first.
