hey my car runs lovely and smooth(thanks audi!) its a 2000 a3 1.8t but i have noticed that the temp gauge never raises above about 65! now im sure this cant be right surelyy.... it does start to raise a bit when i really put my foot down i have done a search on here and im guessing its the temp sendor is this correct or? where is this sensor? ive had the car about 4 days so dont know where anything is!ha ha and this leads me to my second problem when i give it a bit of stick ive noticed i get alot of smoke coming from the bonnet now it doesnt do this with normal driving or just putting ur foot down slightly im guessing when im giving it a bit of stick the oil pressure raises and thats when it leaks from somewhere! is this a common oil feed replacemant problem or? im thinking its the oil feed pipe to the turbo or ....? im just guessing the problem is unless ive got my foot down it doesnt happen so i wont be able to find the leak!

any help really appreciated thankyou chris:blackrs4:

is there anyway of finding out which? how much do they cost? any ideas on the oil prob? thanks

no too sure to be honest h9ow to check either. i got my thermostat changed not long ago because was having a smilar pic with my temp, the thing that cost the most was the labour!!

Does your temp rise to 90 on the gauge when you've slowed down and you're sitting in traffic? If so it sounds like the thermostat as it may be stuck open, therefore letting coolant run through all the time, even when the engine is cold When you're drinving at quickly enough the airflow cools the engine even more and it never gets up to operating temp unless sitting in traffic

Is it definately smoke coming out of the exhaust? It could just be that the car is using more fuel as the engine is always cold and not up to running temp.

If you have climate control you can check the actual engine coolant temp on the climate control unit. If it's low and similar to your temp gauge, i'd replace the thermostat. If it's high enough (just the actual gauge thats low) it could be the temp sender.

Probably not the only answer but thats what happened to me and seems to be a common problem, plenty of posts on it.

the oil leak dissaperaed im guessing it was some spilt oil from the oil change i did a few days earlier had only had the car one day so wasnt sure. ive changed the oil temp sender and its a bit better but not as i should imagine it should be so gonna change the thermo stat if that dont work i will then attempt a long head scratching phase!:sadlike:ha ha
