Alright Guys and Girls - Just popped in from A4 B6 section. I currently drive a A4 1.8 T Sport which replaced a VR6. Now I love the A4 but Im seriously thinking about my next purchase being the A3 3.2.

Question is - What do you guys who currently drive an A3 think (especially 3.2 owners) and is the 3.2 the best engine to go for? Ive also been looking at the 2.0 TDi. Im not worried about MPG as it won't be used for commuting etc

:respekt:

I would personally go for 2.0T FSI or even an S3... I think it is better than the 3.2 everywhere, insurance, etc except engine sound...

Well I love my 3.2, it is a tad on the thirsty side sometimes giving 12/13 mpg commuting, but the engine is very flexible and with smooth power delivery. With the DSG, bear in mind this is the only A3 you can get with quattro and DSG, it is a relaxed and refined cruiser but can show most things a clean pair of heels when needed. I did have a 2.0 TDI courtesy car once but didn't like the sound of the engine although it was a quite nippy. Shame they dont do the 3.0 TDi
I've never tried the 2.0 TFSi, so can't really comment on the difference.
Best bet is to get yourself down to a dealer and try a few different ones

I have a 3.2 with DSG, and think it's fantastic. I get about 26mpgs on average. If you want the DSG, go with the 3.2. If you don't want it and can live with 3 doors, get an S3!

The 3.2 is a really relaxing car to drive most of the time, and it can pick up its skirts when you want it to.

Cheers
Dan

I would say the 3.2 is a superb car and a beautiful drive. The Engine delivers smooth power all the way through without sounding silly.

Beautiful engine sound, lovely drive and with the DSG the car is absolutely gorgeous. it is a wolf in sheep's clothing and has the power when you need it regardless of speed

Without doubt if you are looking for a car which you are not going to modify then go for the 3.2 (if you want to modify it then don't buy the 3.2) If you have nothing to prove, but just want a fast car that delivers big smiles then the 3.2 is a no brainer

Another vote for 3.2 super smooth

Fueling them isnt that bad either imo if driven sensible.

Thanks for all your replies - when ready ill get myself down to the dealer and put a few thro their paces :icon_thumright:

Absolutely love mine , although mine is a manual (which is my personal preference) , had a Porsche 993 C2 and a BMW M3 Evo before it , it's actually quicker round the backroads where i live !!!!

Can't say I've ever sat there in the morning crawl to work wishing I had a lighter engine up front ;) I'm sure the 2.0T will hold the road better and feel more composed when pulling a gee around a bend, but I don't exactly drive like a nutter (too) often.

I have a 3.2 and it's the best engine I've had, smooth, strong and never complains. Pulls with no fuss in 6th gear at 25mph. If you want to drive casually you hardly ever need to change. 1st, 2nd, 6th is my normal gear sequence! Averages about 22 in stop-start school-run plagued traffic (no idea how you get 15mpg in traffic) and will do 30+ on a longer run if you stay sensible - 26-28 if you have a bit of fun...

Floor it round the dial though and it's dead quick, and the sound lets you know it means business!

Saying that I'm due a change soon so will be going TTS with dsg/stronic. Really looking forward to it but I know I'll miss the effortless grunt in the 1000-1500rpm range :blownose:

If you really MUST get an A3, I would get the 2.0T and remap it. I've just got a new TDI 170 and the fuel consumption is crap for a diesel (33mpg driving slowly!). If I had had the A3 for a week before deciding on a new car, I would not have got it.

I have a 3.2 DSG. It's a fine car. Only gripe is suspension- which is utter cr8p. But KW V3 will sort that.

V6 great. but drink problem go for 2.0T Quattro if you need 25mpg plus

If you travel frequently into london, do keep in mind that both variants of the 3.2 A3 would be over the limit, and that's 25gbp if the charges get the green light.

I've got one and think it's fantastic. I average 27mpg on normal driving around town. Can get 34 if driving VERY carefully but not normally. Engine was the reason I bought the car, very strong and refined but fantastic pull and sound when you want it. No lag, just instant power. Try one and see what you think. I drove both before going for the 3.2!

Love my 3.2, best car i've ever had. Drove for 7 hours today along country roads and motorways and it's well suited for either.

Ju's point about being the only A3 available with DSG and Quattro is very important in my opinion, as i wouldn't have an A3 if I had to be without either...
