My car battery has totally died. So I need to get into the engine bay to replace it.

But here lies the problem. I reversed the car into my pokey student back yard with the driver door too close to the wall to get out that side. Whenever we park in my back yard we have to climb over and get out of the passenger side.

But as all the electronics aren't working I can't unlock the doors to get in and pull the bonnet release. I can just about squeeze 'round and open the drivers door with the key but there's no way in hell I can actually get into the car to even reach the bonnet release lever.

So how do I open the bonnet to change the battery with no access the the interior bonnet release?

I'm stumped. A quick response would be appreciated so I can run over to Halfords and buy a new battery, fit it, and then drive to Asda to pick up some dinner =]

The front driver door handle is the only handle with a key lock on it. =[

Thanks Guys.

Could you get something like a hockey stick through the driver's door to pull the bonnet release?

prehaps. Maybe something like a wire hanger streched out with a skillfully crafted hook on the end... I'm all out of hockey sticks =[

No hope of an external release mechanisum? I was filled with hope when my house mate showed me he had one on his Astra. I refuse to be beaten by a Vauxhall. Haha, I WILL drive to Asda and pick up some dinner tonight, lol.

You're a student, surely you have a large supply of Pot Noodles under your bed???

Stick some boiling water in one of those, place it on the front of your bonnet, then stand back as it melts straight through the bonnet thus exposing your release catch. Simple!

I just managed to do it with a coat hanger, but I would'a tried the "Vor Sprung pot noodle technik" next =]

Cheers guys! :icon_thumright:

can you get a jack to lift up the rear wheels & try to tow / push the vehicle away from the wall, so you can get in? (how's good the handbrake, to do it with the handbrake still on and not jacking the vehicle up.
Got manual windows at all? Can you get something to attmpt to open the windows if manual?
