Hey guys, this is only my first proper post, i have an a4 avant that i would like to do a few things to.

Its a 1999 V reg (facelifted front) I presume this is the B5.5?

Well my Avant is the one that doesnt come with the roofbars as standard. I was just wondering If the roof bars could be fitted to my car although there doesnt look like there is any way of fitting them.

ARE THEY POSSIBLE?

thanks

wayne

Do you have a digital or analogue clock on your dash? If it's analogue, you have the 99.5 (early facelift) car, if it's digital then you have the facelift.

Pretty certain roofbars can be retrofitted. The bloke who I bought my car from had them on, but kept hold when he sold it to me, and there are no obvious holes where they would have been fitted.

analogue, so its an early face lift.

Does this mean its still the B5.5 or still known as a B5?

Maybe you just remove the strip that runs along the roof line.

Cheers for your reply anyways.

if you remove the strip it should have the gap there for the roof bars to go in as far as i know

ALSO WHAT ARE THESE WHEELS? am i right in saying there called Audi monoblocks? If not what are they?

Im sorry for borrowing the pic, I hope who ever ownes it doesnt mind.

Yes, they are known as 'Audi Monoblocks', as fitted to some A8's.

what does everyone suggest as a good set of rims for my silver avant? its going to have coilovers aswell so fitment shouldnt be a problem.

Depends what sort of look you want to go for. Personally I prefer the OEM look, so i'd recommend some S4 rims (Avus), or perhaps some RS4 rims.

But I guess if you like the look of the Monobloc's, you probably aren't too fussed about keeping an OEM look.

They are reffered to as monoblocks dustbin lids etc but are rarer tha rocking horse poo, and also command a high price tag. BBS CH's are nice but as far as i have been led to believe are no longer made so i you were in a bump you would be hard pushed to get replacements.
I am all for the OEM look you can pick up RS4 replicas and RS6 replicas for less than 500 sheets and will suit the car well but all depends what type of look your after.

Welcome to the forums mate. Sorry dont have an Avant so cant advise on the roo bar question.

thank you for that mate, the wheel gallery was prety good. But the Monoblocks still float my boat, but the £700 price tag for just the wheels puts a serious iceberg into the equasion.

I really like the Ch's but i dont want to spend that much money, if my avant was a s4 or rs4 avant then i would.

You always sell on the CH's in the future if you changed the car. If kept in top condition I doubt they would devalue much.

pics of how the car was before and how it looks now.........and yes it is still for sale

how did u fit the roof bars mate im looking at one with no roof bars at the moment
The roof rails are held on with 6 allen bolts ,you need to take the headlining out to change them but im not sure if the holes will be there in a car that wasnt fitted with them ??.

I was going to fit the roof bars to my old Avant but then decided the 1600 motor just wasn't man enough so chopped it in and got a saloon.

Think a nicely done estate looks tough as **** though. Might get an S4 Avant when it comes time to change the car again

The Avant without roofrails can NOT be retrofitted easily with OE rails.

It's not as easy as merely drilling holes - there are reinforcements with threaded holes, welded into the side members, the Avant without roof rails does NOT have this.

I replaced the headlining in a 1999 Avant, no reinforcements in place.

I sold my old black rails to a guy who fitted them to his car without any problems and they held his roof box on fine, not sure what the threaded holes are for as the bolts thread up through a normal hole and screw direct into the rails !!
