Whats your private plate , or what have u seen ??

Whys your name nig nog, I find that very offesive, is your plate meant to say Kutta? I know what that means!! hahaha. You should have got Lulla

Rather unsurprisingly my number plate reads H1 8ENF, and my name is Ben and Surname begins with F.

Now the things is that I never actually bought this plate, it was more a very kind birthday present from my Dad... which apparently he saw and couldnt resist buying, prior to my ownership of private plates I thought they were a tad tacky, now I'm still trying to convince myself that they are just quirky.

A while back I was parking a garage in Canary Wharf and saw two ferraris side by side, number plates were: NOT 1 & BUT 2. I thought they were brilliant.

Not fancy spacing it H1 8EN F ?
I know you're chancing the coppers wrath, but I've never been bothered with the illegal spacing on mine.
I have legal size and font though, so perhaps they're giving me the benefit of the doubt.
I sourced a cracking plate for my mate.
He's called Jerry and his wife is Diane.
So I found him D18 JER, the idea being he should space it DI & JER.
He never has though, he bottled it.

When I first had it it was spaced as you said plus with an odd font that made the 8 look like a B, but it got me too much attention from people with flashing lights on their cars. So when I had it MOT'd I took the opportunity to buy 2 new sets, one that was normal and one that just spaced H1 8ENF. That seems to do the trick. Haven't been bothered for two years with that. They may have bothered me for other things, it's just they've never mentioned the plates.

Fair do's, I've never been bothered by the coppers for mine.
I see plenty of people with daft fonts and sizing on their plates.
They're the ones who are really asking for bother.
Apart from that, some of them show a distinct lack of taste.

True, the italic "carbon fibre" style really looks bad IMO. Fortunately mine was just quite square and bold and on a 306 XSI doing 90mph at the age of 21 didnt do me any favours

What's the big attraction with Private Plates, I really do not get it! Surely a nice car doesn't need them. Saw a great Lambo the other day and was pleased (amazed) it had a standard 56 reg plate.

So folks what's the attraction? I remember when I ran a Lease car scheme a colleague had a PP rather than ABS ... you guessed he crashed into the back of someone.. so.. tell me what's the point..

I know I am being provocative but it is Christmas!! Cheers:icon_thumright:

Not a lot, every one knows N was circa 1995 and would not disguise the age of a new R8!

no mate the rover had a personalised plate with NO NIX but was definitely a brand new vehicle and if you had a new R8 I doubt if you would bother with a private plate as you'd be changing it every twelve months at least as you'd be loaded

I guess its a bit like engraving a watch or something. A little pointless, but for the owner of that watch, its a nice touch

I'm with the watch engraving analogy but not sure why you would want to 'disguise' a new car or an old car with a number plate IMHO.

PS I wouldn't want a Hang Over sorry Range Rover anyway. Landlord at pub rearranged letters on front to disguise the name!!:music:

Totally agree. My S3 is 3 weeks old and I have a plate on it already.

The car tells the age, not the plate

Local BMW dealership used to run "M3 BMW" on their demonstrator; I think they still own it...

Pass a Range Rover every day that has WICKED as a plate. To me thats like someone trying so hard to be cool that it looks pathetic, But each to their own

Mines just initials and one number nothing special, saw a porsche 911 with BAD 50Y (Bad Boy) and a Lotus with JOE 400L looked like JOE COOL the way it was done.

Mark

I know a good optician... How on earth does BAD 50 Y look like 'bad boy'? and ditto 'joe's pooed'.

To get them to look like what you want them to is probably illegal (illegal = sick bird)

Back to my original post why bother... spend your dosh on a better motor!! IMHO but thank goodness we are in a free country and Audi Net allow free expression of opinions!!

RU 1 2 ? or is P 15 SED the one for this time of year ??

I must admit, I'm with you on this. I genuinly don't get it, especially when letters and numbers are mangled to contrive something that just isn't there. A guy I've known for 20 years or more - we were at uni in the early 80s - honestly thought I'd be impressed when he told me he'd paid £13k (more than I paid for my car) for STU412T.

My reply was: "If you want people to know your name why not just tell them."

But like you say, we're all free to choose, and express our different opinions. It makes the world a much more interesting place.

My Mum used to sew labels in my clothes when I was at school (long time ago). I don't need them anymore, also had me watch engraved when a kid... but I know my car and it generally is recognisable! I wouldn't pay 13k for STU412T. re arrange MAD 15 E i.e :hubbahubba: 15 E MAD ???

I agree with you to a certain extent. I certainly would not pay a lot of money for a plate and I hate the rather dubious re-arranging of letter to numbers to try and make a plate into someting it's not.

I purchased the number H5DJR back in 1991 when the DVLA first allowed you to purchase a new issue number. I paid the princely sum of £230, which included the £80.00 transfer fee, for it to be put on my new Audi 90. Since then I have transferred it to all my cars. Also a year or two later I purchased H5JHR for my wife's new VW Polo.

You could have a good (ish) holiday if you sold them both then!:sorry:

I've seen loads of amazing plates in manchester.

D4WNS - Cayenne Turbo
S4LLY - BMW X3
C4RLS - 911 Carrera 4S Cab
J4NES - BMW X5
W33PON - LP640
AST11N - DB9 Volante
P11LOT - Bentley GT
8USY - Range Rover Vogue
GIF73D - X7
W4NYE - BMW M3

Those were off the top of my head!!

Presumably this only works if you have installed one of those funfair mirrors that reverse the D and the R, while leaving the other characters alone? Otherwise it looks like a 5 year old drew it. (no offense!)

Yeah well i know what you mean no offence taken although the human brain is quite good at reversing letters at a quick glance a bit like in the film the shining when REDRUM was reversed in a Mirror? (Im happy with it anyway)

I prefer this than using numbers like 4 for the letter A...... have seen so many illegal plates out there that use non-standard lettering to make up words where you cant even work out what the original VRM actually is?

Saw this one a while ago while at a wedding NO51 DOG

I saw a silver 5 series on the M1 with HO05 BAD,looked good.
I read some bloke was ****** off with his misses taking his car,he had A1 5LAG put on it.
Wonder if it worked?

My S3 came with S333 MTM because its an MTM tuned car

My Rallye has VW A 901F as its plate

Wanted G12ATH but that went before I got it, next ones 2012 for MC62ATH

Vauxhall Opel never actually fitted Bose to the Omega as standard IMHO, Had a New M reg CDX in 1994 and music was crap in that ...hence I think it must have been aftermarket.... I like cars standard with OEM options, if you want a better car buy a better car.... but recognise we all have different opinions.

How does K17 ERG = ferg BTW??

Well they had owned the car since new, was one of the 3.0 V6 Elitie with all that Irmscher stuff so it was probably a dealer option just like with the Audi stuff... god Im sad replying to this defending my ex's parents car... Im off for a curry as its still Xmas
