Got a A4 07 2.0TDI Quattro and since new every time you turn left at low speeds or parking there is a loud graoning noise, has anyone had similar problem or heard of this.Audi UK & dealer are not very helpful and problem has now been dragging on for months.
Any suggestions would be great.

Its normal on a quattro. The limited slip differential can only cope with so much, and a tight turning circle at low speed is too much, so one wheel "scrubs" across the road surface which is the groaning noise you hear. Every quattro I've driven does it.

Hi,ive moaned about mine to 2 different dealers,1st said there was an upgrade on the power steering pipes, then said Audi have told them to stop becuase it doesnt cure it? Audi say they know the problem and are working on a solution.Dont think there is enough people complaining about it yet....Jim

Mine isn't a quattro, but I have noticed this too. I also noticed it on a courtesy car A4 I had recently as well.

No this problem is not happening in a tight turning circle it happens even when you turn the wheel slightly, just spoke to my dealer and they changed a steering rack last week in the same model and are now monitoring this for 2-6 weeks, according to Audi UK there are another 4 with the same problem.

Got the same problem on my 2007 170TDI non Quattro. Doesn't really bother me but will ask them to take a look at the first service.

Just bought a 2007 A4 170 none quattro, exactly the same problem. Only seems to happen when just about at full lock, turning left.

Just phoned the dealer, waiting for a call back...

Just received call back from dealer, have been advised that this is a known issue. They have had a few back lately with the same problem.

Was advised to check power steering fluid levels however, they think it's to do with a restricter in one of the hoses.

Spoke to a technician who advised everything is mechanically sound, unfortunately it produces a noise.

Audi are currently looking for a solution to the issue.

..thats strange , mine does it when turning left or right or straight on...seems to disappear when my wife gets out, are the two connected??

I picked up an A4 saloon 06(56) TDI 140 S-Line 2wd last week and mine makes a noise approx 3/4 lock to the left round slow corners. Only a slight noise but also a vibration/grating through the steering wheel as if a steering bush was dry?

Hi Everyone

This my first post ... but have posted about this subject on other forums and have been trying to find others with the same fault.

I have a 5 week old A4 Avant 2.0TDi S-Line. Had the same fault, which always happened when left steering at low speed, when reversing on to my drive.

To cut a long story short, I was told by the dealer it was a known fault with no fix. I therfore rejected the vehicle seeking a refund.

The response from the dealer was to offer remedial work, in that they have removed the restrictor valves. This has reduced the noise. However they have told me that it will still need a new rack when Audi have completed tests.

On the basis that they have not fully repaired the fault I have still rejected the vehicle.

It may seem extreme to reject it, but having shelled out nearly £30k for a car with an inherent fault, im somewhat Pi%%ed off. The other posts on here bear out that this has dragged on for some time and I have no assurance that it will not drag on months more ! or who is to say that modifications will not lead to other problems.

Because the fault is not safety related (or so Audi say) and seems confined mainly to RHD 2.0tdi models, it is not at the top of the Audi list for resolution !

So we will see where the rejection gets me and I will update as and when.

Thanks

Ok my 2007 S4 B7 Cab does this as well just thought is was the limited slip as I have 4 wd but does not sound like it after reading this! Maybe that is why the new A4 has a new chassis?

Just thought I would update those who are suffering the same problem. Today I have received a full and unconditional refund from my Audi Dealer as a result of my fault. No arguments or fuss just a cheque waiting for me when I took the car in this morning.

What do I buy now ??

Cheers

those A4's are nice. The s-line avant looks very good! :tumble:

There is a pipe coming of the P/S resoviour, one of the pipes has a restrictor (one way valve type thing) in it.. there is a modified pipe without the restrictor in it avaliable which normally cures the fault

This was done to my vehicle which stopped the groan to some extent. I was still told that the cause was the rack and that it would need a new one, when Audi had finished testing them. I rejected the car as I have said before and got a full refund.

Cheers
