Hi all, not posted for a while but im after some S4 advice. I thought id ask the people who own and use the cars, rather than the people who will say anything to sell me one!.

Im currently running a 3.0 v6 cab. If my mrs drives then she will get 220 - 240 miles to £40, if I drive it's erm well to be honnest I dont look as its never higher than that.

I have paid for a major service, cam belt and water pump change. Audi wanted £1100, psi tuning cost roughly half that.

Brakes cost me approx £350 disks and pads fitted all round

insurance group 18 £500 per year full comp, inc euro cover, legal fees, the mrs named etc

Id love to change into an S4 but the one factor will be running costs, how much of an increase for service work, fuel, insurance etc.

Any input at all would be great!

Cheers

very pleased with mine, dont think ownership will be much more expensive than what your driving now. i had an A4 2.8 quattro before and they are about the same on fuel as my s4. insurance is just under 1k for me, 34, 6points, full NC. mines been exellent, i love it!

Im sure i remember a thread where some S4 owners was getting similar mpg figures to mapped 1.8t owners.

Running cost you quote sound about the same as for my S4!
Will look at bills and confirm if you like?

Only thing that cost me a small fortune was auxiliary
radiator (S4 has two) but managed to argue a good will gesture from Audi UK!
Insurance is 480 (34 fully comp - full no claims!)

Steve, cheers for the reply!, im getting more tempted every day now!! as for the 993......... DOOOO IT :icon_thumright:

Keef, thanks for the info. No need to dig up all your old bills, I expect my running costs to increase but I wanted to be prepared. Im sure its worth every extra penny for the V8 rumble.

Lovely motor btw, how come your selling? just a little out of mu price range though. Was hoping to hit the 16-18k margen.

Thanks for the reply!

Don’t really want to sell - but just got a new house
and bla, bla, bla makes economic sense and all that!
Getting an A4 2.0TDI (170) Quattro special Ed end of December with all the toys my S4 has got!
Was very close to getting a new S4 then RS4 and even a looked at Ranger rover sport super charger!
Plan to keep the diesel for a year than look at RS4 prices!

Hope you do get an S4 it has kept me well happy for nearly 3 years!

Cheers
Keef

No need to tell me about the house thing, it took me 18 months before I could even think about getting a newer car, was stuck with my leon cupra, to be honnest I still miss that car.

Almost bought an A3 2.0TDI, such a good engine, esp when remapped :icon_thumright:

Id give anything to own an rs4, I guess the S4 is the next best thing!!

running costs are roughly the same
you wont manage to get 220-230 miles on £40 unless your doing motorway mileage and your taking it steady but when you do its possible to get it over 30mpg which for a v8petrol i think is some achievment
ive had mine just over twelve months and it has cost very very little
its used a 1/2 a litre of oil all year and ive replaced the front tyres
mine is still on the variable servicing
i still love the car and wouldnt even consider selling it at the moment

I've had mine for almost a year now, and I'm getting c220 miles on a tank = 20mpg roughly, so same as what you're doing now. Insurance is a group 20, but I doubt you'll notice much of a jump to be honest.

Lovely silky smooth engine. You'll love it.

Mine for sale over Christmas too ! Getting a diesel... Lots of driving for work to start in the New Year !

I get just a tad more than that in my Hairdryer, Sorry,1.8t!!

I did with mine, couldnt help it, Novelty still hasnt worn off from mine yet. Ive had rough riders- Scoobys/M3's/Golfs etc so this 4ringer is soooo comfortable.

All had very close to same consumption though, Maybe its my Led foot!!

Ye i sure did mate....:arco:

Led foot, that must be some limp you have...!!

Do It :).

As others say, bills are on a par with yours for the 3.0 V6. Fuel Economy, I see 18-22mpg, BUT the grin every time I turn the Key and the V8 wakes up is so worth it. It's also quite a subtle car looks wise, but you know full well that under that family estate car exterior it's bonkers!.

Took it over to Germany a couple of months ago and on the autobahn, with 4 adults and luggage in it was still pulluing at 155 (just needed more road and less traffic to play in) and on the Nurburgring it was awesome.

So, basically, do it, you won't regret it.

Everyone..... a BIG thankyou for all your input!! im worried about people telling me to get one then saying they are selling up lol. Defo want a new car for my next visit to the ring!

one last thing, whats the road tax going to cost? im pretty sure its the same catagory as my 3.0v6 (plannet killing, ice melting, government fattening).

Now all I need to do is sell my car.......... anyone fancy a superb condition cab :icon_thumright:

to be honnest im in no rush but I now know what my next car will be, im a bit obsessed with listening to S4's on utube at the moment, sad I know but whatever your into and all that!!

Thanks again everyone

Steve
