Hey
Just wondering what are the best perfomance upgrades for a 1.6 A3 for the price and what is the best looking body kit in your opinion?

Get a bmc, exhaust etc and if you want to go further go for cams, remap etc....
The best looking body kit is the one that audi put on the car!!

Dont do anythign to it to try and improve the performance please.

Save up and when you can afford it buy a faster version with a turbo, then remap that.

Whats a BMC and who do good sounding and performing exhausts?

Yeh i know its a waste of money and time but i would like to hold on to the car for a while.

It's a complete waste of money, at best you'll gain about 10bhp - not even noticeable on the road.

At worst you'll lose some(although again not enough to notice)

It would cost you alot of money to get the car up to about 125-130bhp(absolute max) where you wouldnt be able to gain any more power, despite having spent at least £1500-2k.

they come out of the factory at about 110-115bhp anyway, the official figure is slightly lower to avoid it taking anything away from the 1.8n/a. It's never gonna be fast, so why make it sound like it wants to be?

Also, i'd save your money for when somethign breaks lol - i've done a fair bit of work to mine in the time ive had it. Most of it myself, if i'd taken it to a garage i estimate i'd have spent about 2k on it in 2 years. The car cost £4k lol

A bmc is an air filter! It made my polo 16v sound like a ****** tvr, but then that was a 16v!
They are carbon air boxes, and can add some gain (noticed it slightly on my vr6, but for the price of them, the only winning factor is really the noise!!
milltek (sp?) do good sounding exhausts, but like said, isn't it worth saving all of your money, and getting a 1.8t, then it will be well worth modding!!

Well im young and am getting a 1.6 because insurance would crush me like a bug on a 1.8T and my area doesn't have the best rating but i will be saving towards something like 1.8T in the future :icon_thumright: also do you know what model air filter i would want sorry to be a pain in the foot lol.

Ur not a pain.. Ur new to the game. If you do a search on then net, it will advise you on whats best. As your not going to gain much performance from this, its probably ok to get a cheapy one as apposed to a BMC...

If your going to get a 1.8T in the near future, it might be a plan to buy stuff you can swap on to the 1.8T.
I.E Wheels, Suspension, brakes, S3 Interior, and maybe a S3 bodykit,

There are some good pics of cars on here, which should give you some pointers, and some good chaps on here who will help you out!

Good Luck and welcome to the site!

Thanks alot mate, im sure this site and the members of it will be patient and informative!
They have been from what i've read!:icon_thumright:

i had a 1.8 n/a audi a3 before i got my s3 and i fitted a pipercross induction kit and it sounded nice i paid around £80 from ebay, still got it but not sure whether it will fit a 1.6

It may well be the same fitment, i cant see the airbox from either of the n/a cars being different so it should go straight on.

Best way to second guess it would be either to phone the manufacturer or perhaps measure the inside diameter of the part that slots in before the maf on the induction kit - and the inside diameter of the same section on the 1.6 to see if it's the same.
