Hello all!

Just a quick question, how do you keep your S3 wing mirrors clean? (silver ones) Are there any special products you use on them?

Cheers

I think you can use autosol as it's a chrome / metal cleaner and available from halfrauds etc

Thought Autosol was an abrasive, for polishing metal? Didn't think you could use it on chrome. Will check later as I've got some lying around.

Any other thoughts? Also, need to clean some chrome trim parts.

I use metallic T cut to get rid of the flies and then a couple of layers of Autoglym Super Resin.

(Real) S3 mirrors are polished aluminium not chrome coated. Hence why there so many £££'s

Cool, cheers guys! Yeah, they're the polished aluminium mirrors, so would something like autosol be too abrasive? Metallic T-Cut sounds good! Just got a few stains on mine, and wants them cleaning off so I can polish and wax them.

Mine are pitted and I don't seem to be able to do anything about that...I did use some clay on them and that got rid of a lot of the tar/ground in dirt. Maybe worth trying?

That's a thought! I've got some clay and lube lying around, will have a go later! Cheers mate.

Ok, i'm a car valeter and to get bugs off, i use Auto Glym Engine and Machine cleaner - will get anything off and is safe to use on pretty much anything (including chrome, polished etc) just dont do it on a hot surface i.e. a black car thats been left baking in the sun for 6 hours, do it in the shade and don't let it dry, not a major issue if it does, can just leave streaks which will polish out.

BUT - If you have a cheap polish like Halfrauds Best Super Duper Value Wash N' Wax or Polish it will take it straight off so you will need to re apply polish after use.

Then follow it up with Auto Glym Super Resin polish (this has a very fine cut to it) then if you want to do a propper job follow up with Auto Glym Ultra Deep Shine (filling polish) Then apply a Hard Wax or Liquid Hard Wax... And if that doesn't do the trick nothing will! Engine cleaner is also ace for your windscreen for all the bugs and crap you dont need a lot of it.

Hope this helps!

Sounds like some good advice, will be giving that a try at the weekend! :rockwoot:

Sopa and water works for keeping things clean, in most instances ;-)
Is "SOPA" a special cleaning product for A3's Dave?

I polish them with either Meguires or Auto Glym Super resin and I clay bared them today before a polish and that worked well

polishing regularely them seems to keep them looking really good for longer aswell!!

Don't use Meguires - It's super poop... It looks good for about a day or two and doesn't last, one wash and it's gone if you use anything more than pure water to clean your car... stick to Auto Glym or shell out on some Zymol - seriously good stuff Zymol is!
How did you get on with the engine cleaner BTW? Should have been a doddle!

Autoglym metal polish works for me, tends to bring back a mirror finish

So why do you only see "by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen" and "by appointment to "H.R.H. The Prince of Wales" only on Auto Glym products and no other if they are so bad?

You just have to know how to use it propperly... Not just what it says on the sticker. I put an Auto Glym hard wax on my A3 about 9 months ago and haven't had to re-wax it or polish it since - the water still refuses to hit the bodywork and still doesn't get dirty in the wet... Enough said!

autoglym products woek wonders ! I managed to get a PDI kit as well as standard autoglym probucts both work well.

Oh my, they're metal (if you've got real ones), use metal polish, Autosol works a treat on mine and has done for about 4 years, I wouldn't **** about with anything else. I reckon to do the wing mirrors and the exhausts (if I can be *****) on my S3 takes less than a couple of minutes and they look like new.
