Not really an engine out job problem but still a pain in the ****...

...the flap on the dashboard of my A3, just under the climate control, you push it once to open it and push it again to close it, hide your bits and bobs...

...mine won't stay closed, it just opens again and I don't know how to fix it?

Its one of those jobs that Audi could do in 5mins and charge me £100!

If I knew how to remove it may be I could fix it?

Anyone had this problem?

Thanks in advance

mine was the same if i remember the are two clips top and bottom when you remove it you will see the are two plastic lugs that wear. The way i fixed mine was got a small nail cut the head of heated the point of the nail the pushed it into the centre of the worn plastic plug when the nail cools down the fit will be tight and the flap will be fixed

Mine does this if you don't let it down all the way. Annoyed me to start with til I learned that!! Lol

I have this on my S3, I use my car key and there is a small gap at the top inside the cubby hole. it slides straight out. If you look at the mechanism on the side you will see what is causing it.

Hope this helps.

it is a typical push - push heart cam mechanism

the 'heart' of the cam will have broken off. the end of a nail will do the job in a fashion.

i know this as i design them. have same problem on the avensis handbrake area one

Strangely I even know what he talking about, a nail you say I will give that a go.

I have this problem, drives me insane!!

Get on boost and out slides everything!!

the nail thing does work and is then better than normal as you get a positive feel when its locked down all you have to do is make sure the nail is no too long so it does not interfer with anything around it.I know it sounds weird but it works if the plastic lug has worn.I bought new one and never used it as the repair is so good

I use this

i cannot get the thing to slide out. is there some catch that needs releasing. do i need to force it?

managed to get the unit out by using my stereo keys.

Also fixed the non closing flap by drilling a hole in the sidewall and putting in a screw. When closed now it stays shut by resting on the screw. Had to trial how far to screw it in for the perfect balance of it opening and staying shut.

Job done saving me having to replace it or pay stealers

Thanks guys for all your help,

I''ve now fixed it with the nail method, I can confirm it works a treat!

A bit slow in saying thanks, my computer crashed AGAIN!!!, how easy would life be without cars and computers...?

told you it was a good fix :icon_thumright: (think i should patent the idea)

If I say hello and well done will you thank me too!!!?
