Audi GAP insurance and fixed cost maintenance

Hi

Just wondered whether anybody who has recently taken delivery of their A4 opted for either of these?

Seems to me that fix cost maintenance is OK in principle but the mileage variability is a bit of an unknown. The GAP insurance again sounds good in principle but what is the likelihood of having a total loss against minor dinks?

I actually took both out, my reasoning for the GAP insurance was that somebody drove into the back of my 2 week old A4 cab when i had it so decided due to the options on my A4 Avant i would like the peace of mind. The cab they couldn't really have argued but if it was 18 months old there could be a big shortfall between the payout and the list replacement price.

I also went for the fixed cost maintainance as the price was pretty good @ £29 per month as i figure a set of tyres will be the best part of £1k for 235\40\ZR 18 PZero's if i need one set over the period i own the vehicle i am in profit.

Thanks for your comments, just out of interest roughly how much was the GAP insurance and how long does the cover last?

In this case the tyres would be through Audi, however the best price i reckon i would get by going to Protyre where i used to get my tyres from for the S3 would be about £7-800 for the set.

Cover is for 3 years, on my car it was £499 as the price was over £30k

My dealer persuaded me to have Gap Insurance when I got my car (Audi Cab) in December. However I got a better quote from www.gap-uk.co.uk and persuaded the dealer to match this price of £295 for 3 years cover.
 
Rog thats what i paid for my Gap insurance but through my dealer when i bought the car.

Didn't need to haggle just offered it to me at that price.

Also what is this about Fixed cost maintenance.
Bit gutted as i would have gone for this had i know about.

Can you apply for it after buying the car or did you need to take it out when buying.

I was offered Fixed Cost Maintenance by a Merc dealer when trying to sell me a new E220 but the figures were much too high. Same with Audi unless my maths is (are?) rusty. My car has variable service intervals and it looks like I could go two years between services. If I pay £29/month on FCM that means I pay Audi £696 for one service. Even worse if you have a three year FCM; you still only get one service (but you have now paid £1,044). So you would have to be doing some fairly high annual mileage to break even. If your car breaks down your costs are covered by your warranty anyway.

Think I'm going to skip on the fixed cost maintenance but may go for the GAP insurance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let me know where you get your tyres from /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif when i put a set of RE040's on my S3 the best price i found anywhere was £600 all in for the set and that was after ringing many of the places recommended at the time.

You just have to go through the charade of playing one place off against another. Pathetic really, but those are the rules apparently.

AndyMac, all you've done in this post is make condescending comments about other people's opinions and then when asked to back up your amazing revelations you vaguely mutter something about having to "play one dealer off against another" just to get the prices that you seemed to make out were routinely available. They are routinely available if you bother to go through the routine of shopping around. If you want, I'll make some calls and get the best price in the Southampton area, but this is hardly gonna be of use to Jon in Windsor.
The price of a tyre is not an opinion it is a fact, so I don't see how I could be condescending about it, and if trying to save someone £100 is scoffing at them, then bring on the scoffing.
 
So you just have to "shop around" to get those prices not "play one place off against another"? You were just trying to big yourself up, not help anyone out. You would at least have named a place you'd bought or seen tyres for that price if you were trying to help. I'm not questioning what prices anyone says it's the way you go about it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/goofy.gif If you want to check for prices go ahead, you obviously think you need to prove something. Usually next day delivery. You just have to find a reliable local fitter that won't destroy your alloys

Does anyone have any experience making claims from this website? It's cheaper than what my audi dealer is offering for a used 17k car (Audi quote 300, AXA 250 and car fin. 220) But i want to know if anyone has read the fine print to see what the differences are and any first hand experience in the claims. I'm tempted to pay the extra 50 difference and go with peace of mind from audi. Is that a right decision?

Back to subject of tyres, I managed to source 2 goodyears f1s for under £150 each, total was £285, which would make a set of 4 under £600 and this for for 235/40/18 tyres.
The company is called event mobile tyres (search google) and they even come out to your place, balance and fit the tyres for you. They arrived when they said they would and of the 4 places i rang up they were the cheapest.
PS (Just like im sure AndyMac was, im trying to help, please dont see this as a condescending or a "big up myself" post)

Same tyre size as Jon needs so £600 wasn't too bad a guess.

This Audi maintenance deal does tend to favour higher mileage users.
