Does anyone know a good specialist with a rolling road around wycombe/slough/reading/madenhead/watford/hemel/etc sort of area (I'm in Amersham, Bucks) ?

My remap from Fontain has never felt 100% right, it was greatly improved by changing the MAF but it seems a bit lumpy again and now it's making a little farty moise when decelerating in low gears from 3000 to 2500 RPM. I'm wondering if all is well with the miltec hyperboost diverter valve that Fontain fitted. Also if it's simply the hoses collapsing etc. I would assume a RR session would show this ? It's not that I don't trust Fontain really, just they they have no RR so no way I can see for them to diagnose problems easily like this...

Also I'd like graphs anyway just in case I'm being a fussy paranoid git and half/all the problem is in my mind....

I know I can take it to Power Engineering in Uxbridge but as far as I can see they are more of a Scooby/Evo type place and won't necessarily (infact unlikely) have the VAG-com software etc.

They charge £45 + VAT for a RR power test.

(I have the VAGcom USB cable but only the shareware software)

If it's 'just' RR you are after, then Paramount Perfomance in Slough have 4WD one.

Not sure on prices, I used to work for them but before the got the RR.

Good call Dave, I see they offer Audi remaps themselves so they should have the diag tools to go along with it...

I've droppped them an e-mail asking for prices etc.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure whats going on with Paramount now but I do know I can no longer offer discount :-(

Let me know whats its like, you'll probably deal with someone called Mark, hes a nice guy.

whoops, bashed a button for the thanks dave, its ur lucky day!

I spoke to a guy called Gerrald, he seemed very nice and sounded like he knew his stuff. I'm booked in for a RR on Monday - will let you know how I get on.

As it happened the car felt almost perfect this morning, sods law and all that. (either that or I'm an auto-hypercondriac). Alot of mornings it feels like the choke's out too far, Gerald mentioned that Revo's are famous for overfueling which matched what I was describing.... so maybe that's why the power is a bit hit and miss....

Will be interesting to get a few graphs anyway :)

Please do let me know how it goes. Paramount usually deal with 50K plus machines so customer service should be outstanding.

Service was great :) (oh boy the Porsches next door are lovely !) The guys were very friendly, down to earth and helpful.

They RRed my S3 for me and confirmed my worries..... 229 BHP and running lean.

I've booked into Fontain (who did the Revo map) in a couple of weeks to have them and Revo try and figure out what's up. If they can't I've asked them to remove the map so I can take it to Paramount and they can map it on the RR.

How much was it?

Its a nice, well specced unit is Paramount, they used to have the upstairs too. Did you see any of the 550Bhp XKR's?

They have an upstairs that's an office/pool hall :)

Didn't see any monster XKs... the one next to mine's supposed to be pushing well over 400 HP but they showed me the graphs showing around 380...

It was £75 + VAT for the RR session, not cheap. (Performance Engineering in Slough would have been £45 ) But they'll knock the £75 off a map if I go back there in the future.

I don't know what Revo/Fontain will do if they can't work out the fault. Assuming they can fix it I want them to commit to paying for a RR session if it turns out to be a false fix. As I'll be putting it straight back on the RR if anything changes. There's no substitute for seeing figures on a bit of paper.

Oh, I should add that nothing showed up as far as hose leaks etc. - Paramount suspect the Revo map more than anything...

I'd agree too, the ONLY decent Revo map I've ever driven was in NickEvelry's S3, but even that isnt a patch on a proper map.

Blunteh,

I'm close to you (being in Hazlemere) and I'm following your post closely as I have a Revo remap on my 225 bhp S3 and I'm certain something isn't quite right with it.

Beginning to think I should have gone with a custom remap from Jabbasport or someone similar and not Fontain/Revo?

Hi Si,

Yeah I started feeling the same. It seems like my ECU has put the car into some sort of limp mode after it's RR run as well.... I've got almost zero boost by the feel of it .

I'm starting to think there's more wrong than the map again. I'm waiting to get it into Fontain.

edit: driving there now - will update later..

Hmmm it appears my turbo wastegate's jammed on open.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_gate

By the time I got to Fontain I had zero boost... nadda .. nothing.. just a noisey 1.8 NA engine

The turbo's going to need to be removed to troubleshoot it. I think this might explain my erratic power delivery, I guess the wastegate was getting stuck in various positions...

I hope this is all that's wrong and the wastegate getting jammed isn't a symptom of another problem. They said the turbo's rotating fine, no play and smooth, it's just getting bypassed by the wastegate.

[edit] So i assume this is why it was running lean, I guess the wastegate was jammed closed and the turbo was overboosting, therefore too much air for the amount of fuel in the engine ?

Jeez.. :( Aparently the wastegate's fine.... they're checking the manifold and exhaust for blockages etc. now.

Sorry to hear about your woe's, must be a headache =/ Slough seem too far for me though.
Anyone know of any good RR places in the Croydon (generally Surrey) area?

Weird update: turbo, manifold etc. all been inspected and are 100% fine. they rechecked the map and it's got a (I assume a register) setting they called Valet setting where to turbo it turned off completely. They're as confused as I am. We know no one but a Revo reseller could tamper with it as Revo locks that part of the ECU.

They've reset it and aparently it flies now..... No charge for the diagnostic work.

You're guess is as good as mine....... any ECU/map experts got any ideas ?

If it starts acting oddly again I'll have to ask them to remove it and give me my cash back.

It flies again..... weird eh. They said all the map settings seemed odd and they've checked with Revo and everyone's clueless to what's happened. It's been reset and it feels better than ever.

Si, I'd get yours back there and ask them to check all the map settings again.

I mentioned you to them and said I'd suggested you get it back in. If you want to reference my car (I'm sure they'll know anyway but just in case) it's Keith with the Noggy Blue S3 from Amersham......
