Alright guys,

Unfortunately due to spiralling house prices and my need to get onto the property ladder I need to raise cash. Hence my Beautiful S3 is now up for sale:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/181179.htm

The only thing I had left to go to really finish it would have been some bilstein shocks, H&R springs and some ARB'S and she will be great.

I promise you this one is a belter, so if you fancy taking a look at her let me know,

cheers,

G. :sorry:

Why have you removed the S3 badge from the grille? I'm not sure the wheels are to everyone's taste. I think you should be prepared to part with it for under £10K in the current market. Low mileage and good condition though - should sell.

despite the lovely condition and low mileage, i dont think any pre facelift are worth over 10k these days.....

still, a lovely motor, and those wheels do really suit it IMO, a lot of them dont seem to take those wheels so well.

good luck with the sale!

I don't know about you guys, but does the price say no offers? I've not bothered to open the link mysalef, but isn't it ok to overprice something, so the prospective buyer can do some haggling and at least'think' they got themselves a bargain??

Could be over priced but there are more expensive ones in worse condition than mine and I've put a lot of effort in to keep it in this condition. In the end it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it and honestly, this is in fantastic condition, the bodywork really is very impressive. and as pointed out low milleage, the leather is great and everything is in working condition.

As for the wheels I have had a fair few folk try to have them off me, so obviously appeals to some folk.

I don't need to sell quick, but will need it sold by the turn of the year. Appreciate your opinions though, keep them coming !

Thats a good point but the amount he is asking would put me off even contacting him as i could get a facelift S3 for that.

Your right, you could get a facelift S3, In my opinion and it is only my opinion. I don't think there is enough difference between mine and a facelift when you consider the wheels were a thousand punds only bought in april, she was serviced at 56k and I've just replaced the AFM. Mine has also been chipped and is mint. you can see that from the pics.

Go on pistonheads and see how many 2001 plates there are for more money than mine, with none of the above, prob in worse condition and whose millage is way more than mine !

So guess it's what your priority is ?

If the majority are saying its too expensive, then it probably is....

After all, the majority are the people who make up the buyers.

The wheels 'are' nice, but they aren't 'worth' anything, they are worth what someone will pay, and cars kinda need to come with wheels, so you might better off selling the ASA's and sticking it back on standards.

I have to agree with Dave I'm afraid. Mods are generally worthless to buyers. Especially those who are more up for standard and then putting their mark on the car. I would put OEM alloys back on and sell those seperately. Nice car but is slightly too rich for a pre facelift. I think psychologically buyers are more up for facelift as it is perceived as being 'newer' and so will hold out for one - especially around that price. You are right though, there is alot of younger cars that are a a bag of ***** out there too! Remember, there is always someone out there willing to pay you just need to find them. Just my opinion :)

I know people are saying are saying this is to expensive, but this car is my pride and joy. I don't need to sell quickly, I need to sell eventually. The other thing is the market is generally higher in scotland for this type of car than down south as there just arn't as many for sale. don't know if you knew that but there are only 5 for sale between adtrader and autotrader in the whole of scotland and this one is the second cheapest in front of a v-reg with 90K on it !

So may be expensive down south but as you can see, certainly not up here.

You lot are just lucky down there, cause there is an extra 50million of you, you have a lot wider choice. Think I may buy my next car from london, it is after all only £40 return on the plane now :)

I took a 6 hour train Journey to Liskeard to buy my A3, and would travel as far as needed for the right car, despite it being your pride and joy, it doesnt mean its worth any more to anyone else in the whole country.

Bayern, I'm not arguing with. I know the fact it is my pride and joy that it doesn't mean I'll get more money. but it means I don't need to sell it cheap.

Some people arn't willing to travel to london to view a car. Honestly go on the websites and look at the price of these cars up here. I just think you are lucky to have such a large market down south. sure you get the unusual buys like a low millage pre-face model like mine for 8.5K but there rare in excellent condition. why would you not pay 9.5K for mine to get that bit more ? Another £260 will see those wheels diamond finish if you didn't like the black. (oh and I don't have the old ones . . . oops !)

Anyway, I appreciate all our comments. In all honesty, I think my car is worth about 9.5K in your market, however is there anything wrong with putting it in at a higher price and if it doesn't sell then dropping the price in a few months ? :icon_thumright:

Fair reasoning. If you arent in a hurry to sell, then just wait and see...

Audi A3 (96-03)
S3 quattro 3d 2000/W
Average mileage 60,000 miles
Original Price £27,450
Franchised Dealer £9,875
Independent Dealer £9,205
Private Good £8,390
Private Poor £5,940
Part Exchange £6,980

Sorry Mate, I think you are about a grand out on that. I've just been through this myself and I found that you don't get calls till you are near the right money. I also found that a remap was worth nothing to someone who wanted it mapped and a negative to someone who didn't understand the benefits. I don't think anyone will pay more for a re-mapped car.

I don't want you to think I am bashing you, but I reckon you'll save yourself time and hassle if you get near the right money. I stripped mine of any extras and am selling those separately to try and recoup the difference. S3's have taken a hammering in the last year on price - assume due to the new one? I lost more in the last 12 months than on any car I've ever owned... And one of the reasons for buying an S3 was that it should maintain value! Ar$e.

If that is the case, I can always do that but out of the 60 old shape S3's being sold on pistonheads there are only 8 being sold at what you quote but most have hefty milleage also there are 33 selling for more money than what I'm asking !

So I'd rather go with the market than throw money away unnecessarily !

I can always drop the price if need be, cheers.

I hope you get the money you want! Sincerely... Good Luck. It's always some consolation to have a huge wad of cash in your hand when your baby gets driven off don the road by some stranger!

Hey, if you don't try . . . . . you don't get ! :)

cheers though:icon_thumright:

If you're not in a hurry then test the water with the pricing. I see your point about taking into account other varibles such as location and you clearly have the knowledge there - I am a southerner where, as you say, there are a few around. If it doesnt work out then lower the price. There is a danger that it gets 'black listed' by punters who see it up for sale for a while though then discounted... you takes your chances!

I would still get hold of OEM wheels (there's a chap on here selling some as we speak!) and sell yours seperately.

suppose that would be an option, the wheels and tyres are only 9 weeks old and as such are untouched, the stainless dish is gorgeous. Apart from them being black they are stunning wheels so would want good money for them to :)

cheers guys,

G.

Unfortunatley, even if the car does no miles it will depreciate at about £100-£200 per month just stood there!
S3s are dropping in price rapidly it seems at the moment, not sure why, but they are!
Its a tough decision selling a car that is special to you, you tend to persuade yourslef that you will sell it if someone offers you top wack, but in relaity, the market and buyers set the price and they want to pay what its worth!
So then you feel reluctant to sell and you hold off and off until you wish you had sold it for what you were offered once !

My mate had a boxster, and after a year of ownership, only done 4k miles in it since he had it, (bought 2nd hand for £22.5k) he decided it was a bit impractical and bought an Rx8. Dealer offered him £14.5k px on the boxster, he laughed at them and stuck it in th trader at £19k!
18 months later, 2 MOTs, £600 bill for new aircon and only driven it 800 miles, he sold it locally for £10750.........!!
The usualy bullet proof Boxsters plummetted and in reality his laughing at the mazda dealer cost him about £5500, to do 800 miles in it..........!!

Cars never go up in value unless you are real real lucky so if you have decided to sell, my advice is sell quick and be realistic as to what its worth! I think the fact there are 60 for sale on PH says it all really!
Otherwise, hold onto it! If you sell it for say £9k, and end up getting a £4k car form a dealer, (worth really £2500 before his mark up!) you have gone fomr a 9k car to a £2500 car and will have your £4k to show for it....). Changing cars costs cash, holding onto them often costs less!

Good Luck anyway!

That does look beautifull, change of interior and it's a belter ! !

i wouldnt buy a scottish car personnally! i'm from a scotish island an to see the amount of **** they spread on the roads every winter, the salt off the coast etc etc obviously glasgow shouldnt be compaired to the isles but just a point 'on scottish/coastal' cars, i drove to the middle of england for mine an to compare it to the 'local' cars of similar spec/age is chalk an cheese! certainly scared me into keeping it well garaged and out of the elements as much as poss! i think if your aiming at the specialist market of someone who appreatiates the mods they'd appretaite the quality too so stick to your guns, as you say if you dont ask.....

looks nice! wheels arnt for me but good luck gettin a good price.
