why do people complain about them when they are posted in the General Chat board, for which the description is 'General Chat The place to chat about anything not related to cars, questions, music, current affairs, etc'?

if you want only talk about cars, stick to the relevant car boards... General chat allows those who want to talk crap the facility to do, providing something for all.
 
Plus useless threads take up precious bandwidth which costs money

While I'm a great believer in free speech there are times when I wish spouting aimless drivel was a punishable offence.
 
I think there should be a "hotstuff style section" where drivel can be spouted amongst all those whom wish to enjoy it.
 
Whilst I agree that a lot of the threads in `general chat` are a little crap, I know what you mean Scooby A4-sometimes it seems that unless you are talking about Audi related things or roads or whatever then people do kind of jump on whoever has posted it??? Sometimes wonder if its worth having the section at all? There has been a few things non car related that I was going to ask advise on a while back but could`nt be ***** in the end as someone would twist it and try to pick a fight-so to speak....Still a great site for all things Audi so its not a complaint,just an observation :icon_thumright:
 
Wes, thats my point! many boards are the same too...

this site is great for Audi and i've had lots of good advice from people who know, i wouldnt want that to go away, but at the same time, how do you strike a friendship without aimless drivel? sometimes its needed, and lightens what could be a **** day for some people
 
On any forum its good to have a bit of `banter` and to get it sometimes you need a useless thread so people can take the ****(in a banter kind of way)but so often on here it all goes tits up and people take it seriously and start a row-funny as it may be to read I reakon it puts people off?...Oh ******, been busted by my boss-better do some work:3sadwalk:

Scooby I agree. I love the general chat here, it's entertaining!

The mix of silly chit chat and the insightful car forums is what makes AS.net unique, and keeps me coming back.
 
I think meaningless threads and posts, especially ones that brings a reaction, shows the type of person you are in terms of personality, like we all know that hotstuff was a Stalker Psycho biatch lol.
 
Isn't Banter all about Meaningless drivel? It's just a bit of fun and I have no problem with it, if I don't like the look of the title I just don't look. If it ends up 30 pages long then it may intrigue me enough to have a look.
You'll find that most people who come here get cheered up by some of the stuff put into the Banter section.
 
Drivel is okay as long as it can be followed with something, if I posted "put out my rubbish this morning before I went to work, I think James May is great" its a bit difficult to follow with anything except an insult!

Uninteresting nobodies drivelling on about their uninteresting lives which nobody reads
