I've been umming and Erring over this since I got my car.

When the lights are OFF, the stereo and DIS backlight brightness varies depending whether the sun is shining directly onto the dash from behind.

My question, where is the sensor?

Maybe it uses the same sensor as your dimming mirror?

I *think* it uses the same sunlight sensor as the climate control. In other words, the left-hand dark plastic bump on top of the dashboard underneath the front windscreen, not the one with the alarm LED.

I might be wrong but i think the sensor is located in the middle of the dash near the windscreen.

Yeah I thought that to, but when driving its hard to reach over an cover it when the sun coms out.

Worth a try though, Thanks folks

I have just had a look at my copy of the Audi parts catalogue and I can confirm that the Sun Sensor is in fact the the left-hand dark plastic bump on top of the dashboard underneath the front windscreen. The one without the alarm LED.

No its not!

The sensor is on the speedometer on the bottom right side just underneath the 180mph mark on mine.

Shine a light onto this and the brightness increases, hold your hand over it and it dims down.

This also controls the brightness of the RNS-E screen too.

That sensor is for the climate control to sense how much sunlight is coming into the car for the temperature to be regulated automatically.

I thought it might be something else when I shone my torch the climate sensor and nothing happened.

Thanks for that JamS3

Yep - as above, the one for the brightness is on the speedo.

The one on the dash is for climate control calculations.

if you have audi concert two , then the sensor is on both side of the cd mouth , two small points hide them with ur fingers and it will be darker , spot a light at them and it will be ****** red.
