Does anyone fly one of these?!
I've just got into it by learning to fly a small one - now building a bigger beastie.
Anyone got any tips so I don't chop any important bits off myself?

Hi,

Yeah, i fly the beasts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a Hirobo Shuttle (30) a Thunder Tiger Raptor 50 and a Hirobo Sceadu 50, lots of fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Which one do you have? Where do you fly?

Here's a pic of my Raptor, it's the purple and white one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They look superb...

I learned in my garage with a Hummingbird and have recently got the courage to fly it through the house without destroying anything.
I'm now putting an Eolo together (yep - I'm gonna stick with electrics) which has a brushless Kontronic Twist 3700 motor.
I'm still learning nose-in hovers on the Hummingbird (scares the **** out of the cat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif ) but I can do side-on ones so nearly there.
I'm on the outskirts of Aylesbury - I'll be flying the eolo in the back garden once its all together.
Where do you fly??

If you can fly a Hummingbird\any small elec you will be able to fly a nitro model really easily, if you fancy having a go with one let me know. Is the Eolo a Robbe model? Not too clued up on the Elec side, nearly bought a Piccolo Pro a while back but ended up with a new radio instead /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know what you mean about scaring the cat, i keep crashing my XRB Lama into the chinchilla's cage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have been flying between Stokenchurch and Slough this year so not far away from you.

I have not been able to set up my Sceadu yet as i couldn't get it in the car, however i have just got an A4 Avant to replace the Cabriolet so i will be able to take all 3 out for walkies /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hehe! - I heard that - it is very skittish in the lightest wind in the garden so good practice.
Thanks very much for the offer - but I'll make sure I can fly the Eolo properly before taking the controls of anyone else's pride and joy...
What kind of Radio have you got? I've got a JR PCM9 - just thinking of a training link-lead if you fancy meeting up when my Eolo is airborne...? I'll buy the beers and pub lunch in exchange for some pointers?
The Eolo is a Robbe model - take a look at http://www.rchover.com
As you say I am near to Stokenchurch - I bought my bits from Skyline in Studley - I think they have had a few private laughs about the number of Hummingbird main rotors I had to buy from them in the early days...

The Kontronic motor is rated at an easy 400W so the power is comparable to a 'sub 30' sized model - far more than I'll need for hover and forward flight.

The PCM9 is a real nice piece of kit, i was going to get one but got bored of waiting for the translation of the manual to get done. I have a JR X3810-ADT so buddy lead will work fine.

I get most of my stuff from Bob @ Skyline or Cyberheli in Hong Kong. They are really helpful at Skyline and for a smaller retailer they are very competitive. I also use Slough Radio Control but prefer to use Skyline now as Nick Moss who owns Slough also owns Ripmax, most of OS etc and i would sooner support Bob.

I'm not flying much at the moment as the weather is crap but would be interested in meeting up an having a look at the Eolo.

I'm still learning myself but will hopefully be into 3D and inverted circuits and hovering by the end of next season /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Take a look at Runryder it's full of yanks but there is some good info on just about every model.

WOW - I've always thought these were mega expensive, so havnt even bothered looking. But I've just had a look at the link. Theyre not that bad.

Mutley - how much did the hummingbird cost you. What does it include, is it a full kit or just the actual Heli?

Gentlemen I think you have just cracked it - this may be my ideal christmas present for myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

P.s How much is a set of new rotors /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif just in case, cos it could get expensive if theyre a few quid.

Hi Nicky,

Sorry to hear that, but as you say will probably see you at the field /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

R88per, Ball park for a 30 class starter outfit is about £600 with the starting equipment and reasonable radio etc. The radio gear the Mutley and I are using is about £500 on it's own but you don't really need it unless you really get into the hobby or have the money to go to it straight away.

They are alot of fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif one of these would have been ideal to keep Phall's ring closed on the Sunday AM following on from his Phal Korma /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Jon.

Thanks for that Jon, I've been looking around the net, and have found a few places to source one. Looks like around the £300 mark for what I would need.

I think I'll stick with my original thought of a new toolbox off Santa, then wait till my birthday in February and get a better model / transmitter for around £500.

In the mean time I'll do some research and learn the basics of how the things work / stay in the air. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush2.gif

See what I mean ???????????? Total newbie here when it comes to flying machines.

Fancy posting some links up of where I can start with the research.

Had a couple of Rc cars in the past, preferred the nitro ones though. You cant beat the sound of those little high revving buggers. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Till some b*stard broke into my garage and cleaned me out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

Know what you mean about being addictive though, I know I'd want a better model after a few months and end up shelling out again, so I might as well wait a few months, learn a little and save the pennies then get the best I can afford at the time.

Thanks for the info though, totallly appreciate it, definately going to get one. Its one of those boys toys youve just got to have at some point in your life.

Thanks for the links Mutley /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

I'll have a good look through them, when the missus lets me put this ****** paint brush down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

Why they insist on getting every thing done "before christmas" I'll never know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Women Eh!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/goofy.gif

The Eolo flies beautifully - like you said it is rock steady after the Hummingbird - much more confidence inspiring. I did a shed load of damage setting it up though... Thought I'd test the HH gyro indoors with the main blades off and over-corrected a turn with the gain set too high - the heli hit the door frame and practically exploded /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif - that will teach me.

Anyway - got the new parts required and all is well - still no 'nose in' but figure 8's are no prob even in wind.

Have you got any plans for winter flying?
