Yesterday must of been the hottest day of the year so far. At about 2pm is was VERY VERY hot in Cheshire, yet my DIS was saying it was only 12 degs?!?!?!? Missus MK4 golf showed up as 27 degs. Looks like ive found my 1st fault.

Spooky,I thought about raising a thread about this.
My outside temp thing keeps saying it's around 9.5 degrees,when it's evidently a lot warmer.
It's annoying when the frost warning comes on,when everyone is cutting their grass and wearing t-shirts...
I stand to be corrected,but I think the sensor is in one of the mirrors ????
If so,can't be a massive job to change it.

Does that affect your climate control? I think it uses the outside temp to determine whether or not to draw cool air, or to use the air-conditioner.

I live in Aberdeen as well and my temp guage read 9.5 degrees all morning and only went up too about 12 this afternoon!
I think it's just typical ****** aberdeen weather where we are 10 degrees colder than everyone else!

Watching the Audi channel the other day and they had a review of the A3 140 TD on a 55 plate (how dare they review an old car eh Bowf, that will never be useful, what a waste of time), and the ginger chap was explaining that there are two little pods on the dash, one housing the alarm-set LED, and the other housing the sensor for the air-con to tell the system how quick it needed to work based on the amount of sun shining directly into the car and the ambient temp (he called it a sunlight sensor - bit odd).
Watched a review of the S3 yesterday and he said the same thing.

Yeah, the sensor on the dash does measure the intensity of the sunlight entering the car, and adjusts the climate-control accordingly(there's a write-up in this months Audi Driver mag about after-market sat nav units being placed on the windscreen directly above the sensor and blocking it.)
In addition to that, it also uses the outside temperature sensor to determine if the outside air is cold enough to cool the car without the need for the air-conditioner to be switched on.
If the inside temp of the car is 25, and the climate setting is 19, and the outside temp is 12, it will just draw the cold air from outside into the cabin to cool it to 19. However, if the outside temp is 27, it will switch on the air-con to cool the cabin down. Clever eh!
So, if your outside temp sensor reading is wrong(ie. 12 instead of 27), the climate control will think that the outside air is sufficiently cold to cool your cabin to 19 and it won't switch on the air conditioner.

My aircon problem isn't so much the temperature it's able to produce as much as the ****** fan never,ever,goes above 3 bars on the display.
So heat,or cold,only ever trickles out.
I can manually boost it of course,using the demist button or the + button,but it never goes above 3 bars on auto.

Yep mine is the same, never goes above 3 bars. Another annoying feature about the car.

Something not right there with the temp sensors on your cars.
If the interior of my car is warm (like when its been parked up on a sunny day) and I then get in to go somewhere the fan automatically increases speed to cool down the interior. Climate control is always set on auto. It then decreases speed as the interior is cooled. No need to manually adjust it.

I have the same aircon system (different display) on my Passat, and on auto it never goes above 3 bars, but it does vary the power of the fan etc. depending on how hot the car is inside etc., then slows automatically when it has reached close ot the required temp. Works same on my Mrs Gti.
I would think that you have a sensor wrong surely, same as Bowfer.
Bowfer's car is obviously a complete nail, and yours probably came out of the same batch.
No trouble with mine, thankfully. Was parked in a sunny spot, soon as i got in the blower when on full blast til the car cooled down to 22c.
Only slight problem i have with this car is the when its idling. It shakes a little sometimes.

I've had a problem with my outside temp sensor a while ago. One day I started the car and it was showing a very low temp (something like -30 C). During the day it slowly krept up until it was showing normal temperatures again. The next couple of days it would do the same thing but the problem seemed to go away after a while and I kinda forgot about it. Then, a few months later, the car was at the dealer for a courtisty checkup (the guarantee period was almost over) and aparently the strange temp readings had been logged as an error so they replaced the sensor (free of charge of course
