I own a genuine ross tech key-usb interface and correct me if im wrong, but it should automatically activate the vag com software?.I have tried it with four different versions of vag com,but to no avail.I have done the test proceedure and i get "ports ok"-" interface found". When i try to run the program (interface connected-ignition on),i get a error saying "not plugged into car" and im referred back to the test proceedure. On investigation,i notice there is no licence number, i.e, not activated. I have had no problems with it in 18 months prior to this.. 2 full days now trying to sort it out and almost ready to bin it,unless someone can gratefully assist me....Many thanks for any helpfull replies. P.S. Drivers are installed ok.

If its the genuine Ross tech interface have you given them a shout and asked about it? They provide support if you have a genuine product. But you should also have the latest version of VAG-com as well.

Thanks for the replies. I have emailed ross-tech earlier and hopefully i will recieve advice soon. I have a genuine ross-tech key-usb interface and have tried it with four different versions of vag com (including the latest) but with no luck.. I bought the interface off someone who didnt need it anymore after selling his audi and it worked fine until recently. Does the problem lay with exchanging owners?? It seems not but im not 100% sure... I have tried to connect with two different laptops but still get the same error. Ive tried every obvious thing i can, but any more advice and avenues i can explore will be very welcome. Thanks again.

I dont have a new type interface myself so cant help much. I understand that the activation is built into the cable though so it wouldn't matter that it changed laptop.

I know I had problems with mine when my laptop brok and it needed to b activated again. But thats on version 409.

I'm sure you'll hear from Ross-tech support soon though.

I thought all the usb ones were automatically licenced.

what is the car - is there actually power to the correct pins of the socket?

This is not a question of licensing, but rather a question of the interface not being recognized. It's possible the interface is simply defective, stuff like that happens so it's most likely to be replaced/fixed under warranty. That's also why contacting us directly is in such cases the best way to get problems sorted and hey, that's what we are here for and what you paid for, the support. :)

Based on the symptoms described, it sounds like the interface has failed. However, the warranty on the interface in question is long expired, and the person who owns it now bought it second hand. Under those circumstances, all we can offer is repair or replacement for a fee.

The car has been tested and all is ok.The interface has been tested on another car and failed. So as Uwe says,it all points to the interface..What is puzzling me is how it could mysteriously stop working for no apparent reason..Does anyone know of a repairer in the uk?.. I dont fancy the thought of sending it back and forth to the usa if it/another continues to give me problems.

I have a different type of interface ordered now, should be here this week. A fellow audi owner is paying for the program licence i pay for the interface and we share the use. So,all up and running soon for £40.
