I'm hoping someone will be able to help me on this.

I recently noticed that my o/s xenon was too high, prior to that I had a non vag mechanic attempt to fit led sidelights the one most you probably have! Anyroad, I took it to Audi as I still had a warranty. The mechanic had said that the leveling handle had snapped and that there had not been any front end damage so should be covered on me warranty, turns out its not covered anyway. So they said I need the new part 480 odd??!!

I thought the adjuster was a screw jobby (white nob on the top?) However is there another level handle for adjustment? Maybe located in the wheel arch??

Anyway can anyone provide details of this part? I have asked Audi but they just keep fobbing me off ....:eiertritt:

Thanks in advance.....

I believe there is a linkage on the front suspension in one of the front wheel arches which keeps the headlight at the right level.

The zenon headlights have electrical motors that adjust the headlight, they take a signal from a sensor on the front and one on the rear suspension to ensure they are always pointing level.

Cheers for the info Joe/Steve....

So what part do you think they are talking about? is it the whole headlamp unit that needs replacing?

Would it be possible to brake this adjuster in while attemping to fit sidelights?

I just dont want to shell out 600 quid without knowing why!!!

cheers again

I think they are quoting for the whole headlamp, a friend had a similar problem with his and Audi said he needed a new headlamp which they quoted at about £400 if I remember right.

the lever in the wheel arch is on the passenger side you can see it if you look, if this isnt what is broken then it probably will cost a fortune. the lever should be attached to a mounting bracket on the wishbone not in the upright position like on the photos, hope it helps

I think they are trying to rip you off. If the level sensor is broken then it only costs around £35-40! Even if its the headlamp motor; again very cheap. Only thing that might have broken is the plastic clip that the motor's white ball fits into. I know for a fact that this part can break and is not available seperately (even though it simply has a torx screw) as i managed to break both of mine and had to repair the originals.

The link between the motor and lamp within the headlight assembly broke on mine early on and the dealer swapped the headlight under warranty. But that was the original manufacturers warranty so might be different.

Cheers for all your help, the pics were clear.

I think it is the whole headlamp that they are going to replace, so I have told them I want the original headlight when they change it....I'm thinking at least I should be able to use it for spares? If not attempt to repair and sell?? the car is a 03 Plate.

Well they have offered to pay 50/50....but I was angry at the fact the warranty didn’t cover it...When I got the car they explained that the warranty didn’t cover electrics which I thought was stupid on a car like the S3, but I didn’t know it also failed to cover component parts and wear and tear.....
Had I known that I would have said take 500 off the price and I will find my own warranty one that did cover everything!!!

Apart from that and the strong wind ripping the door out of me grasp onto metal railings this week, all has been well!!! Quoted 200 for the door repair and subsequent paint work.....****** weather!

again thanks for your help....

So Mo,
Do you think i would be able to repair this torx screw myself? If i found a scrappies that had this working part?

I dont know about you but I always feel they are trying to rip me off! The garage were I brought this is a big VW garage with a tiny section in it for audi ... So i'm always thinking there taking me for a ride....I'm going to see a private vag garage to see if they can repair....?

cheers for your help

If you can find a scrappy who has a broken headlight then get it. I think you will find that most places will not want to attempt a repair on this part.
Whether or not you yourself can repair it is a question only you can answer.
