Hi there guys, i bought myself an audi s3 8v pfl in December 2017 from Staffordshire audi used approved, with 1 year audi warranty and 145 point check as they call it. This week i got an eml pop on the dashboard of the vehicle so i sent it to stockport audi for an mot/service and they have found something quite unbelievable and strange with the car. They found rodent damage all over the engine bay. Which i never knew about which also had a previous repair on all the wirings. I have a video to share with you guys from an audi engineer with the proof of damage. any advice would be really appreciated thanks in advance.

First port of call would be go back to the garage you brought the car from and get them to sort it out for you.

Hi nilz yes i am going to contact Staffordshire audi today as when i bought the car from there used approved section he told me the car was a1 condition with no faults issues. Would of definitely reconsidered buying the s3 having now know it had prior work done they did not tell me.

The problem you will have is proving it was Staffordshire mice not Stockport mice that chewed through the cabling.....

I actually bought an A6 a few years ago (private sale) and found similar damage, though luckily they only chewed through the foam wrapping and not the actual cables. I did put some mouse traps down but never caught anything....

Hopefully not too expensive a repair!

Lol seems you were lucky then ! before this i never heard of rodents getting into an engine bay and causing havoc ! I guess i am in for a hell of a ride with Staffordshire audi over this situation. Definitely put me off there used approved because Clearly they didn't check for previous rodent damage lol !

I wouldn’t bother with the argument about whose mice did what and I’d start by saying that it has previous damage (repairs) that was undisclosed at the point of sale and you are seeking a refund / replacement.

Clearly the repair has developed an issue.

There is nothing to say there is no further, hidden, rodent damage that could cause you even more problems in warranty or outside of warranty in a 7 months time.

Sorry to hear this btw - they are superb cars and I miss mine quite a bit....

I would get in touch with the Centre you purchased from and lay out all the facts with as much evidence as possible.

Before doing so i'd think about what you want as a resolution, is to give the car back or have it fixed fully and properly, try to be realistic as well : )
But good luck and let us know how you get on, remember there is always Audi Customer Services also to help apply some pressure!

Hi guys little update on the car its back at my house now as Stockport audi havent done any work on the vehicle other than the mot. I spoke with the engineer at stockport audi and his advice was drop my s3 at staffordshire audi and leave it there with them as they are at fault for this. And that's coming from an audi engineer himself ! Also trying to get in touch with the 1st owner of the vehice just to back up my story. probably in for a long ride with this problem. All i would like solution wise, is to fix the previous fault, that is all new wiring loom fitted etc with no charge to me. as i did not do this damage in the first place. So far one phone call to the agent i bought the car off in december 2017 wiped his hands with it and said not our problem quite bruntly. Next port of call i guess is speaking to the general manager and if this does not work, trading standards. Thanks for advice by the way chaps.

Sod the general manager get the e mail of the CEO of the company , This should do the trick if you say not happy, not fit for purpose after Audi check not properly done etc etc .

I have had cars that have suffered light rodent damage, it has only happened to me during one winter, and that was 2 or 3 years ago!
What happened was, my S4 kept in a closed garage though not mice proof, and daughter’s unused Ibiza which was parked at the side of the driveway. Wife’s Polo which was also kept in the closed garage did not seem to have been touched at all!
Both cars had the firm foam under bonnet sealing/blocking strips eaten, or at least chewed into pieces, the Polo does not have any of that type of firm foam. So, it seemed like one family group liked doing that, I was spitting blood and headed off for 4 traps and an ultrasonic anti rodent device to protect the S4, I just bought a bait box and kept that loaded under the Ibiza. I caught 2 mice and that was that to this day! Ibiza is now kept at my daughter’s flat but I still leave the S4 parked with its bonnet open just a couple of feet from the ultrasonic device.

I also placed opened bags of poison bait in the garage, but from lack of whatever to use baited the traps with peanut butter, this is not too smart an idea as peanut butter seems to be an antidote for regular mice/rat poison!

Something is enjoying the peanut butter as it gets stealthily removed from all the traps, I must try harder!

I would think in general, mice will only cause that issue for maybe the coldest 4 months each year - pity you have owned your car over one of these winter periods.

If it helps mice ate 2 sets of spark plug leads of my uncles Lotus Elise. He got them with traps and bits of mars bar in the end!
