Hi all its been a long time since I've had to come on here for info..

My little old quattro gear box has gone, can only get 1st and 2nd gear. Think the rivet has broken off causing the bracket thing to fall off so not being able to get all the gears.

Wondering if any 6 speed gearbox will go straight on? Off a TT or S3 or golf or any other quattro as long as they are the 4 wheel drive models?

Mines the 8L

Thanks in advance.

More or less yeah... its a 1.8t I assume and not a TDi as these will be different

TT/S3 boxes will be fine... not golf's though as I assume you are thinking the R32... gearbox is different on those...

The fix for this is actually relatively easy... I have done this myself recently...

Ahh brilliant. Someone's breaking a TT quattro and thinking of getting that then fixing the old gearbox myself when I have the time and keep it for a spare. I've seen the video on Wheeler dealers with the fix yours is much more detailed so thanks for that.

I was thinking of the golf 4 motion btw :p

Someone's quoted me £550 to do the job if I get the box which ain't too bad I thought

Just to add I can select all the gears with the car turned off and I can move the selector on top of the gearbox into all gears. Would I be able to do this if it was the bracket that had fallen off inside the gearbox?

With the car started I can select all the gears when not moving and foot on the clutch but it's seems stuck in one gear. If I put it in neutral and let my foot off the clutch it wants to move

Would have been if you had bought one :)

Yeah, that'd of been bad.

I'm trying to convince myself it might be something easier to fix but going on my explanations above its definitely the fork bracket thing ain't it?

From your description it does indeed suggest the fork is the issue...

Mine went recently but i could not get 1st/2nd gear
I got a used box of eBay and was back on the road the next night.
If I knew the common fault I would of probably salvaged the original

It does sound different to the rivet issue doesn't it? That was normally on the 1st / 2nd fork. Especially as all the gears can be selected when the car engine is off.

Sounds more like a clutch issue to me
