SQ5 2018 SQ5

To be honest delivery time doesn't bother me too much, my wifes Q3 is leased and not due to go back until next march so I will need to pay to change early i am just too impatient and want to change it sooner.

Are they still coming through Germany for QC? If so, it’ll take a bit longer.

I got mine in September but managed to grab one already on the boat.

Still very happy with it as a comfy GT type of car.

It's now shipping... Much sooner than I was expecting.

Anyone got any idea how long it takes to ship from Mexico?

Did you figure out where you car has got to DeckedS3?

From another thread seems 8-12 weeks is the range for shipping from Mexico...

@DeckedS3 any word on the SQ5? Surely you should have it now, if so get the pics up!

Still nothing... Tracker says it's been shipped, but it hasn't progressed to "on it's way to the UK" yet.
I checked with my dealer and they're predicting mid March. I've not pressed it, but I suspect due to the mix up with some of the spec and me wanting certain add-ons that were only available with the tour pack.

Did 400 miles in mine yesterday. Still a very comfy cruiser..... and on some wet country twisties there was def a lot of fun to be had with more than a little rear slippage.

That said, since yesterday, I have begun to wonder what an RS4 avant would be like day to day......

Had a test drive yesterday in an SQ5
Wasn't planned but ended up talking figures.
Originally based on a stock car but soon became apparent it would need to be a new order to get the spec I would want.
I'm only 8 months in on my S4 to a 3 year pcp deal so expected the worse but figures weren't too bad. So now I have a dilemma as I've always like the SQ5.
Going to arrange an extended test drive and see. Any of you guys got the sports diff?
Got it on my S4, not sure if I need it??

Thanks
Keef

I'd consider the saloon, not sure about the avant. I love the RS5, but that's never going to happen with a 20 month old and 1 in the oven.

I didn't bother ordering it, as I figured I wasn't going to be driving it like I stole it, nor tracking it.

My dealer has confirmed the car will be delivered to them in the next 7-10 days!

The reason for the delay on my car was down to Audi changing the RRP & spec of the SQ5 from when I placed my order with the dealer and them placing the order with Audi UK. It's only 2 months late.....

My end spec is slightly different to what I originally ordered so it's coming with the tour pack instead of the camera based traffic sign recognition. I'll see if i can get away without paying for it.

Daytona grey
Tour pack
Comfort and Sound pack
Light and vision pack
Extended LED
Carbon atlas inlays
B&O
Electric panoramic roof
3 spoke flat bottom steering wheel
Red brakes (wife insisted)
Phone box wireless charging
Electric folding/dimming mirrors
Rear airbags
Electric front seats with memory
Heated front & rear seats
21" 5 twin spoke wheels

Haha, sounds like me, but slightly better as am 18 months into 4 year PCP on A6 avant 2.0tdi ultra (have bluefin for extra 35 odd bhp) and am getting a new Q5 252bhp petrol. SQ5 in a couple of years if I can last that long.

When are you swapping the A6 Avant for a Q5 TFSI?

Next Saturday I pick it up. Once I have VIN I can find out whether my bluefin can be used (obviously flashed 1st), and can then get near the 300bhp according to SuperChips if not over

I'm probably going to collect it on Wednesday, we'll see. It's freezing outsize and I need to move the cars about and free up one side of the garage. This ones going to get a space. At least until the novelty has worn off.

How long did people wait for their Q5s in the end?

I ordered my Q5 on 10/10/17 and it arrived early January! A massive surprise to me and the dealership!

3 months is fast... Par seems to be 4-5 months from order if you get a build date within 2-3 months of order. One SQ5 was 6 months due to an issue with spec change on order.

So.... It may not have been the experience I was hoping for, but the last few days have been hectic. My wife is heavily pregnant and due to complications she was rushed into hospital literally hours after we collected the car (she's fine now and back home). But the SQ5 wasn't used, apart from driving it home and a quick trip to my parents place (to take pics). Today I went to collect my wife from the hospital and we couldn't open the passenger door. I thought it was a safety feature of something as i'd been tinkering with settings (as you do), but after further trying we couldn't open the rear left door ether. Luckily the dealer was only 2 mins away from the hospital, so I took it round to see them. They were good and got us a like for like replacement within minutes so my wife could rest up and got ours into the workshop for diagnostics. It turns out a control unit for the central locking may of failed so they're having to arrange for a new one to be shipped. No SLA, but hopefully it won't take too long. On the plus side, it's given me the opportunity to mess about with this one and open the taps as it's been run in.

So, this is my new, old SQ5 :racer:

I was about to say the car looks great before reading your latest post. Takes the shine off when there is an issue. On the plus side as you say you can at least open the taps a bit with the courtesy SQ5.

Quick question, can you tell the difference between the 20’s on the courtesy car and the 21’s on your car?

You can feel the tyres are different, the 20's probably ride the bumps better but I haven't done that much driving. It rides the roads much better than either of the my S3s! It actually been quite nice having the courtesy car as it's given me a chance to get used to the size of the car in car parks and narrow single track roads.

Will be interested in your thoughts when you flip back to your car with the 21s as I went for the 20s for comfort.

I know what you mean about getting used to the size of he car vs. the S3 and being able to adjust in ‘somebody else’s car’!

What’s the estimate for your central locking issue being resolved?

I'm not sure when it'll be back, I hope they'll want to get it back to me as soon as possible. Maybe Tuesday...? I'm sure they'll do what they can, I know they're going to make this as simple and seamless as possible, including dropping it off at my house so we don't need to do anything. The dealer has been really good to be honest.

I'll let you know when I feel the 21's again, it's not so different but the roads are particularly bad round here at the moment.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy the SQ as much as I am, I'm looking for excuses to go out for a drive. I've been tinkering with all the setting too, I'm sure it'll be quicker for the dealer to reset the ECU than manually change everything back when I give it back to them.

I also found out there is some noise fabrication being pumped into the cabin, i'm not entirely sure if it's all fake though, but sometimes it's not 100% speed/engine matched. I managed to turn it off by going into individual mode, setting everything up in dynamic but disable engine note (or something like that) whether it also disables an exhaust flap or something I'm not sure.

I also believe my SQ has matrix lights as the full beam on mine is completely different and upon further reading, the Audi website suggests Matrix lights come as standard with the Tour Pack (which mine has) but I'll need to check when I get mine back.

And does anyone know what the button does below the gear shifter and left of the handbrake, it has an "S" printed on it? This SQ doesn't have it, but mine does...?

Great that you can practice on the dealer car, just remember you'll have to go back to running in mode when you get your car back

Interesting note on the engine sound, everything I've heard suggests the 'enhanced' sound is mechanical rather than through the car speakers...

Matrix LED is a standalone option or part of the 'Light & Vision' pack that included Virtual Cockpit. One step up from standard LED headlights that may be on your loan car, here's a good description:

https://www.whichcar.com.au/car-advice/audi-matrix-led-headlight-technology-does-it-work

The 'A' is the button to activate Hill Hold Assist, when active it behaves like the price guide description:

Hill-hold assist
Keeps the car stationary once it comes to a stop on uphill and downhill gradients. Remains activated for an unlimited length of time and allows the driver to pull away smoothly.

OK, thanks. Makes sense as mine has the light and vision pack, although I wasn't aware that it included the matrix lights. Will have to give it a go when I get it back. I'm fully expecting oncoming vehicles to flash me, but we'll see. They're seriously bright.
I've never understood hill hold on an auto, but again this must of come with one of the packs as I didn't spec it individually.

I'm looking forward to seeing Matrix LED in action, there are some unlit roads that I drive on that should be much less daunting.

'Comfort & Sound' (The only way to get B&O Sound) includes Hill Hold. On an Auto, the most useful behavior of Hill Hold is that it stops the car creeping forward when you release the break... Ready for the traffic light GP

The B&O in the SQ is so much better than the B&O in the S3, It's no aftermarket setup with a pair of 12's in the boot, but it does the job nicely!
