Hi everyone,

Newbie here

I’m sorry if this has been asked before. I am considering a pfl RS3 15 plate with only 14k on the clock and is Nardo grey with the tech and sound pack. Is there anything I should be looking out for when purchasing the car?

Also what is the realistic service costs/ownership costs to own the car? I currently have a BMW 335D and is a great all round car but I want something different.

I do around 200 miles per week 30% roads and 70% A roads and motorways, how does MPG stack up? At the moment my 335D is averaged out at 36mpg, I won’t be hammering it around everyone but I just want to know if it feels like you are at the petrol station every 2 minutes etc.

The service costs can they be done at a indecent garage rather then paying £500 for a service?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I just want to know the ins and outs before I make my mind up.

Thank you very much!

You must get the dynamic pack that has the sports exhaust. It will help with resale as well as providing a glorious sound...surely the main reason for wanting a 5-pot engine.

I averaged exactly 26mpg doing what sounds like your type of drive/commute. It certainly won't be 35mpg as an average, although it will just about to that at a steady 60mph cruise on a motorway.

Servicing can be done at independents but I wouldn't say it's overly expensive.

When I had a 335d I managed to average 17mpg..... No surprise then that the RS3 gives me single figures.

On my test drive of a 16 plate pfl I drove extremely steady on the motorway and got 27mpg and on single track roads 16mpg

Yes you will be at the petrol station every 200-280 miles

Then again I only average 25-28mpg out my golf gti

Imo it’s worth it but get the sports exhaust

My 335d was averaging 38 when I returned it, 60% motorway driving, the RS3 is sitting at just over 25 this morning, my commute to work is quite sedentary with 60Mph zones on the M1 so it really sips the fuel, this is, however balanced by me driving it hard when i'm not commuting ;-)

I compute my real MPGs most tanks and the last four have been 25.5, 25.5, 26 and 29. I have been doing less motorway cruising in recent months - the 29 value was pretty much 100% motorway cruising.

On a long journey I clock about 180 miles of half a tank.

A full tank of v power gets me two round trips to work 320 miles in total. When I get back I still had 65miles range on the tank. I certainly wasn’t hanging about on the mway either. Never stops amazing me how great this car is. I’m currently doing 800 miles a week and what a commute it is in the RS.

Audinutta you seem quite good on maths maybe you can tell me what my mpg is mate?

Can work it out easily, all you need to know is miles travelled and how many litres you have put in.

In use an app called Road Trip, it’s great.. fill in the blanks every tank.. gives a graph the lot.

Otherwise you can use this.....

26mpg too when I had mine. At 14k miles it's barely run in!

I the hell did you manage that ?

Was it only running on 4 cylinders !

Rubbish I say.

It must be the first hybrid RS3 off the line haha

I’ve had that level of MPGs in the past when cruising in my 8P around 60 as I had plenty of time to spare. I’m totally confident the 8V could do it, too.

Thank you for your reply’s guys!

Is the sports exhaust that much louder? When I test drove the one I’m looking at. It sounded amazing popping on every downshift etc that’s convinced me to swap the 335D.

Iv seen the serving costs at Audi and they are stupidly priced, what’s the price that you guys pay at a independent for services?

Nope got nothing to prove I know my car very well know done over 6500 miles in 8weeks. My contract is 80miles door to door so that’s 160miles round trip. One full tank of v power gets me to and from the job or two days. Out of interest I will still having two fuel bars at the end of day two showing, range in dis said 65miles.
75miles of the commute is m11 where I literally don’t let off until a lorry gets in my way or the ****** a14 road works.
Used that app out of interest that audinutta put up as I use the fill and go shell app that shows how much fuel I put in (was very bored) and it said over the 320miles off driving it averaged 40.9.
Manual mode dynamic and outside lane hogging :tearsofjoy:

Spirited early morning blasts sees low teens, like I said it’s the perfect all rounder

Your trip computer is broken.

I had 35mpg a few times but that was doing 60mph for 50+ miles etc. 40mpg may be possible but at a 50mph downhill cruise with a following wind.

Could be mate anyway not going to turn this into a debate love the car for what it is.

thank you for the information :)

The one I am looking at has the comfort and sound package and tech pack, what exactly are these in terms for the car apart from the B and O speakers?

All the fun starts at 4k+ RPM so fuel consumption will be at 20-25mpg/1-1.3L/10km. My issues with the rs3 are squealing brakes, rusty hubs and low torque under 4k. If i were you i would have a look at the M140i aswell.

One thing is for sure, for the performance I don't think fuel economy is that bad if you drive it gently.

For @LeeJH post, tech pack had a bigger nav screen and looks more expensive. Comfort pack had the B&O and I think the rain/light sensors...could be wrong.

Dynamic pack was mag ride and sports exhaust. I would really urge you to get one with the sports exhausts. It sounds utterly bonkers and is one of motorings great sounds.

Thanks again for the info guys! @ChrisRS3 I really don’t like the look of the M140i compared to the RS3, I’m swinging towards getting one. I just hope I don’t regret selling my 335D, it’s one of the best all round cars when it comes to comfort, speed and economy etc.

I don’t think I actually want one any louder then the standard one if I’m honest lol when I test drove it, it was insanely loud especially with the pops and bangs on down shifting!

Honestly if you go without, you will lose money and will struggle to sell it short of part exchanging it into a dealer who ‘has’ to buy it from you. They sit in dealers for several months unsold....

Yeah mate aluminiom pack, Nardo Grey, really nice to look at, much better interior then my 335D, on the tech pack has anyone had any issues streaming music via Bluetooth?

The Bluetooth streaming quality is not great (the bandwith sets the limits anyhow). You will have 2 usb ports - load up a stick and sit it in one and plug the phone into the other - job done.

You will want it when you have it - you just turn into an animal. If not, then run it in comfort and it will be fine.

I challenge you though not to open up the valves once you hit a tunnel.

Totally ****** up here lads, entered the wrong litres of fuel from another receipt.
Put in the CORRECT litres this time and it was 32mpg over 320miles or two days:tearsofjoy:
I know it isn’t relevant but will come clean always if I’m in the wrong.
If your still looking to get this car to the original post, buy it mate you won’t regret it one bit.:sunglasses:

That sounds a little bit more realistic. I've seen about that cruising at 80 but you really have to try to see 30+.

Not at all it’s up for £31,998, it’s 3 years old in July, it has the white supersport seats, tech and sound pack. Similar priced cars had no extras at all from what I was looking at.

Here is a picture from the garage, I wasn’t sure on the silver trim at first but it’s really grown on me, it looks quite aggressive and breaks up the front and back around the exhausts.

Iv put my deposit down on it! The hard part was convincing the Mrs it’s a family car Lol

I just hope I don’t miss my 335D it’s a quality car, I had a Golf R before that and it just didn’t feel right driving it, felt very cheap for a expensive car.
