Good Evening all.

I don't particularly want to start discussing the legalities of number plates but has anybody got any experience of Hill's Ultratek plates?

I have seen a post from a couple of years ago & a couple of photos but nothing else.

It's quite an involved process for me to get some as after emailing the Yorkshire area sales manager, he says they no longer accept scanned documents so, in a nutshell I will have to drive to Hill's in Birmingham to present V5 & photo id in person.

I can maybe do this on Monday so I know time is tight. I know it's not always prudent to take photos of reg plates so advice would be good if you don't fancy taking a photo of yours.

I hope everyone has stayed safe & accident free throughout this bad weather. I spent 18 hours on the hard shoulder of the M876 but was in a centrally heated lorry cab with tins of M&S chicken casserole to keep me alive so hardly a hindrance.

Cheers.

Jonny.

I don’t have UltraTek plates, so I’m not sure of the pros and cons of them, but there are plenty of online suppliers who will let you place the order, then follow up with an email for you to send a scanned copy of the V5 or retention certificate to complete the order.

My last two sets of plates have all been done online, with no issues using scanned certificates, the last one two months ago for a stick-on front plate. :racer:

Thanks.

I've had several sets over the years & the pressed ones I have now were bought online but these do look very good quality so just thought I'd ask around.

BullsEye are a local and approved Hill's dealer but the rep said they don't always want to go to the bother for just one set for an individual. Whatever happened to good old customer service eh?

If I do get some I'll stick some photos on so people can have a better look. The website isn't that informative.

Got my pressed plates from an Amazon supplier, placed the order expecting a follow up email asking for documents. Nothing, plates arrived a couple of days later.

I did the same with my last ones after reading the listing & they fell through the letterbox before I'd been asked to email the necessary

Anyhow, I called at Hill's in Birmingham today & it's a nondescript factory on an industrial estate accessed through an automatic barrier. Anybody born around the same time as me will surely be singing along with Eddie Grant as it's on Electric Avenue.

I parked, pressed a button by the door & explained my business. A friendly lady buzzed me in & was quite happy to help me out. I'm guessing they don't do this too often as there are no samples or brochures or anything. To see an UltraTek plate in the flesh I had to find a car in the employees car park with one fitted. They can take card payments & cash.

For 2 pairs of plates (standard rectangular, non-tabbed, with St George's Cross/ENG flag) and FedEx delivery included they are £62.18.
I'm not sure how that is broken down but guess it will be on the final invoice with the plates.

I've ordered a pair for my A4 & TT to avoid having to make the trip again & they should be here within a week as have a 5 day lead time.

I know they are only number plates & as such do the same job as the cheap pressed ones that I already have. I know they are quite expensive but if anybody has heard of them & maybe fancies a set, I'll report back when they arrive.

The plates arrived on Monday so 7 days after calling at Hill's.

They are made from aluminium with very sharply cut raised letters, not massively different to my pressed ones, but the sharpness of the outline of the letters makes them look smarter.

I also went for the St George's Cross & England on the left.

They come with branded Hilfix sticky pads but I can't vouch for the stickiness of these. I usually use 3M tape so may not use them either.

I heard about them & wanted some so here we are. Not everyone will like them or think that they are worth it & if you don't have a distributor nearby the trip to Birmingham may be a bit extreme but, if anybody was curious like me, I hope this helps.

Have a great weekend.

Jonny.
