A4 b5 15mm spaces help!!!!

Hi there just tried to fit some hubcetric spaces on the rear of the avant 15mm but they are not sitting flush with the hub it's like they are catching on something has anyone got any suggestions cheers
 
It looks like there is a bit that seams higher my question is can I grid that bit back on the hub
 
Just looked online and a lot of people are having the same problem
 
Funnily enough I brought a pair of them this week for the front of mine. I will try them tomorrow and let you know how I got on.

On the back of mine I run 15mm TPI spacers and they fit fine.

They will be fine on the front don't have a extra lip on the front hubs but backs do
 
I have a set of new tpi’s im not using. I’ll try them on the back and let you know

Have put it all back now but it's about 5mm from the hub sitting flush with the hub
 
I've just had a look and by the looks of it I can probably just grind away the lip on the hub
 
Yeah that would work, just be sure to mark up any area with bearings etc as you don’t want filings getting in there :)

Does anyone know if a 20mm spacer will fit running 8j offset 45 18inch thanks
 
I've just looked and there is no way a 20mm will fit it will destroy my arch but I think I can shamfer a bit down on the hub and then the spacer should fit over has anyone else tried this ? ? Or shamfer the spacer

its a commonish issue on FWD a4's

i doubt you can modify the spacer but post a photo of the problem for us to see...
 
Don't think I can modify the spacer but am sure I can modify the hub
 
I am pretty sure the lip on the hub is there to transfer and support the weight of the vehicle onto the wheel. Removing the lip would mean the only thing holding the weight would be the bolts securing the wheel to the hub. This would not be a safe thing to do. The bolts have a small amount of movement built in to seat the wheel to the hub securely, USING THE LIP ON THE HUB. Removing the lip would allow for the wheel to not be centred on the hub and over time cause a flat spot on the tyre and in extreme cases, tyre failure.

Grinding things off the car is NOT a safe practice in this case.

It looks like either the spacers are not compatible with this hub, (the listing is for a VW Golf) or they need a recess milling inside the spacer to take the lip protruding from the hub, thus supporting the weight of the car.

Yes, grinding the lip off would mean the spacer would fit flush to the hub, but just think about the physics, if you then hit a large pothole in the road, the shock would be sent directly to the bolts and not distributed between the wheel support lip and the bolts. You stand a very good chance in losing the wheel completely through the bolts shearing, under the extreme shock transferring from the impact to the bolts..

And I assume you will be informing your insurance company of the fact that you have removed the lip from the hub before you drive the car on the road and the reasons why?? You will be telling them wont you??

If not, then I think you have your answer.

And the result, in the case of an accident and a claim where the insurance company, or the Police look into the vehicles structure in depth which reveals an alteration in the hub area and the wheel support, WILL render your insurance null and void and could leave you personally liable for injuries and damages.

Going to keep the lips it's just on the front of it it's slightly thicker at one point

You can keep asking the same question, but you may never get the answer you want.


The options are....

Find the correct spacers manufactured for your hubs or, get the spacers you already have adapted for your hubs.

Its as simple as that.
 
I have a B5 Avant 1.9 TDi AFN engine with 195 BHP, 288lb/ft torque with B5 RS4 alloys, ET45 I think, with 235/40/18 tyres and it looks as mean as **** but in a subtle way and corners like its on velcro... No spacers, no flared arches and it looks good and handles even better.

Personally, without the flared arches, I cannot see the point in fitting spacers as all they will do is foul your arches.

Its been a long project but its been worth it... basically its as below....

A4 Avant, Black, De badged, RS Grill, TQS Leather, RNS-E, FL Hid Conversions, Booooost gauge, Coilovers, Vented and Grooved 312mm discs, 235/40/18 Nokian Zlines on RS4 9 spokes... Strut Brace. AFN, BV43 Turbo, .280 nozzles, PD130 Manifold, EGR Delete, Custom 3 Bar Remap, FMIC. Relocated N75. PD150 Head Bolts, De Cat, Jetex SS Exhaust. Newman camshaft, 11mm pump. Sachs SRE and DMF Clutch...

And it overtakes like a motorbike!! BUT looks like a mild 1.6 Avant. :hi:

I have a few somewhere, I will look this weekend and try and put them up on here...

But I have had so many comments on how sneaky it looks and sometimes when the other cars catch up, (if they can) how well it looks and goes!!

AND IT STILL DOES MORE THAN 45MPG WHEN YOU THRAPE IT!!

they were generic 5 mm non hubcentric and no hub mods. Maybe because i had quattro ?

I could have fitted any size without issue but any more than the 5 meant the arch flaring and 9.5 inch rims would have met too frequently
 
I think I need to see if a shop can make me some so they fit over the hubs it s a common issue by the looks of it but 9.5j your brave lol

The front wheel drive rear hub flange is much thicker than most other VAG models because it contains the taper roller bearings, which is why a lot of hubcentric spacers dont work.

Not really much you can do about it, Perhaps converting to the seperate hub and disk setup that has been discussed on here in the past would help, but i cant be sure.

Buy a quattro ;)
 
I've converted mine to the A6/100 hubs and still had the same problem. I've used 10mm Bimecc spacers off ebay and still had to do a bit off machining to get them to fit properly. The disc mounting diameter was reduced from 68mm to 65mm to allow TTS disc's to be used with S4 calipers and RS4 carriers and while on the lathe the outer spigot was reduced slightly to match the inner dimensions off the spacer. Still had to dremel a small amount of aluminium inside the spacer where it touched the tapered section of the hub.
